A Bird in the Cage novel Chapter 31

Chapter 31 Was It Ryan

If she continued asking, it would put her parents in a difficult situation, but if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to resolve her problem with Ryan.

Opening her mouth, Catherine let her mother feed her. Chewing her food, Catherine complimented it.

At that point, her parents thought that she had given up so they secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

After she swallowed her food, she suddenly mentioned, “I remembered Ryan.” Then, she observed her father because he was good at lying.

Back then, Ryan had told her that she lost her virginity when she was 18, and he even had said he hated her. Kevin also mentioned that there was a man calling her Cath pretty endearingly by her

side on the night of the accident.

Because of all this, Catherine inferred that she had been once in love with Ryan and they were together at one point in time. Later, that man appeared and she fell for him instead. That was probably why Ryan hated her.

However, she was only 18 years old at the time. Although all this shouldn’t have been possible, that was the only explanation to connect all the dots so

far.

“Ryan? Do you mean the President Walker of Walker Group and Luca’s boss?” her father asked.

“Of course.”

“What did you remember about him?” Winnie asked, her expression no longer nervous.

“I was in a relationship with him before the car

accident, right?” The whole time, Catherine only paid attention to her father’s expression since she was sure that she would get her answers from him.

But his expression did not change at all. He didn’t looked surprise when he knew she knew the truth. This made Catherine feel strange.

“You were so young when you had the accident, young lady. Why would you be in a relationship? Besides, we didn’t know anyone from Walker Group at the time so you definitely wouldn’t have known Ryan.”

At that moment, Catherine could tell that her father was not lying. After all, he was an incredibly honest person and Catherine could trust that much.

“But-“Before she could say another word, her cellphone rang. It was Luca.

“Luca is here. I have to go and pick him up.” Catherine informed her parents in a hurry and walked out the door before answering the call.

“I bought something from the supermarket, the same old four items. Do you need anything else?” Luca asked awkwardly.

“I’ll go and pick you up. Wait for me.” Since Catherine couldn’t find anything out from her parents, she thought she would try with Luca since he was the closest person to Ryan. Perhaps he would know something about him.

“Please don’t. Keep a distance from me. I dislike women like you.”

You…” Upon hearing that, Catherine was so angry that she choked.

At that moment, she wanted to meet him anyway so she could clarify things, but she was afraid that

it would be difficult for her to pretend to be loving with him in front of her parents after they argued. So, she patiently commented, “Then, come to my parents’ home once you finish shopping.” After saying that, she hung up.

Shortly after, Luca arrived. Her parents came out to welcome him warmly, and they chatted for a bit.

Although Luca was only an assistant, he was Ryan’s right-hand man. When Catherine’s parents had almost gone bankrupt before, they were very happy that Catherine was able to find such a nice man to care for her.

“Drink with me tonight, Luca,” Mr. Green said at the table.

“I’m sorry, Dad. Mr. Walker might need me to go out with him at any time so I can’t drink.”

“Well, okay then. Work is more important after all,”

Winnie said.

“I just wanted to thank you for putting in a good word for me with Mr. Walker. If it hadn’t been for your help, my factory would probably be in trouble,” Mr. Green sighed.

Actually, he hoped that he never set up this factory because he was between a rock and a hard place now. He was making losses by running it, but he would owe a huge debt if it closed down. For the past two years, Walker Group injected capital into their business but never intervened in the entire management. Meanwhile, Mr. Green and Henry

Johnston struggled to keep the business going, and they always ran into problems, but they could never deal with them.

“I didn’t really do much. If anyone should be thanked here, it should be Catherine.” Just then, Luca shot Catherine a glance as if to tell her to be grateful for all that Ryan had done for her.

Why would he say something like that? A moment ago, she had just asked her parents if she was in a relationship with Ryan. What if they sensed something?

“What do you mean?” Mr. Green asked curiously.
