A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married novel Chapter 45

When Everly was in high school, she had two close friends.

In the third year of high school, after Everly became Lucas' girlfriend, one of her good friends started to distance herself from Everly.

It had nothing to do with Lukas. Something had happened to Everly's friend's family at that time.

Everly had just stepped into the world of love. The pure love made it very easy for her to "value her boyfriend over friends".

As time passed, Everly finally found out that her good friend had moved and left City C.

Days passed into years in a flash.

Everly was surprised that her friend had returned to City C.

Although it had been many years, Everly recognized her at a glance. Everly's friend didn't change much, but was taller. And her eyes weren't as lively as when they were students.

"Beth?" There was no uncertainty. Everly was certain that this was Beth Carter.

Beth was stunned for a moment. Her expression was somewhat complicated, but it then turned into 'expected'.

"What a coincidence to see you here."

"It's really you!" Everly was a little excited. "Beth, where have you been all these years? Why did you come back to City C? Oh my God! I just came back. I didn't know you were back."

Everly was genuinely happy.

Back then, she had two best friends. Everly was closer to Beth. Later, Beth left without saying a word after something happened to her family. Then Everly got closer to the other one.

Then at college, that girl went onto close terms with her boyfriend.

This was a fatal blow to Everly.

Afterwards, after escaping from the country, Everly did not make any friends of similar age.

Beth smiled and said, "Everly, I know you're back. I was going to contact you." She paused, looked at the surveillance camera, and then directly buckled her cap on her face, "Let's go in and talk."

Only then did Everly notice that Beth was dressed in pure black. Beth was wearing a hat and with sunglasses in her hand.

Beth was avoiding the camera.

Everly did not know what exactly happened to Beth. It was getting late now. She was heading home, but now, she wanted to talk to Beth.

Everly texted Gloria and told Gloria that she might be back home late and have to go on a business trip tomorrow.

Gloria thought that Everly's boss made her daughter work overtime, so she kept asking around on the phone.

Everly thought of that her mother knew Beth and liked Beth. So Everly told Gloria that she had accidentally met Beth.

Only then did Gloria believe Everly and told Everly that she would pack the luggage for Everly's business trip.

Everly put away her phone and followed Beth into the hotel room where she was staying.

Everly discovered that Beth should have lived here for some time.

Although the hotel room was cleaned every day, one could see at a glance at the door that Beth's stuff was everywhere.

Beth used to leave her stuff around in the room, which would pile up into a mess.

The Carter family was quite rich before. Beth had a twin sister, Miriam Carter.

The two sisters looked different and had different personalities.

"Beth, have you been staying in a hotel all the time?"

Everly sat down and saw that Beth had already taken off her black coat and black hat. Only then did Everly realize that Beth's short hair was a wig. With the wig off, she revealed her long linen hair.

Beth looked pretty beautiful. Her beauty was hidden by black just now.

Now the black clothes on her body had been taken off, and she looked much brighter.

"Who are you hiding from?" Everly smiled.

After thinking for a long time, Everly suddenly said, "After these years, have you still kept in touch with that ...? His name?"

Everly couldn't call out that name for a moment. Back then, they weren't classmates. That boy was several years ahead of them in school. Everly didn't know how he got to know Beth. He was Beth's boyfriend for some time.

Beth had told Everly that her boyfriend was too possessive and wanted to break up.

Everly knew nothing about what happened later.

"Yes." Beth admitted, "Lawrence. He has been looking for me for years, but I don't want to see him. I've been hiding all the time."

Everly remembered that the name of that boy was Lawrence Bevell. It happened that Lawrence had the same surname as her scum ex-boyfriend.

"Then have you been in City C all these years?"

"No. I wasn't in the country before, but I found it harder to hide abroad. Lawrence looked for me all over the world. Later on, I felt that it was better to stay in the country. The most dangerous place was the safest place." Beth smiled, "Lawrence definitely wouldn't know that I work in Maverick's company."

Everly was shocked, "You're in the Lamont Group?"

"Yes."

"Which department are you in?"

"Marketing." Beth thought of the gossips in the marketing department. They talked about Everly every day. Beth wanted to keep her identity a secret. Otherwise, she would have torn their mouths apart. "Actually, I wasn't going to see you until a few days later. I know that you are Maverick's secretary. Recently, people just can't stop gossiping about you."

Everly didn't know about the gossip forum and thought what Beth said was the gossip in people's mouths.

"I heard that Maverick didn't hire female secretaries in the past." She explained awkwardly, "Maybe it's because of this."

"You're very special to Mr. Maverick." Beth said with a faint smile.

Everly's expression changed slightly. She said, "Since you are also in the Lamont Group, you must know that Lucas is Maverick's nephew. What a strange twist of fate it is!"

Beth smiled, "That's right. I've seen Lucas several times. And..."

"Lawrence and Lucas are brothers, so Lawrence is also Maverick's nephew." Beth dropped a bombshell.

Everly was completely dumbfounded.

Damn it. The world was too small!

"You can't hide for the rest of your life, can you? What happened to your family back then? Why didn't you rent a house, but stay in a hotel...?"

"It is troublesome. I don't plan to stay in City C for a long time. I will work here for a short time." Beth said indifferently, "I was going to meet you secretly in the future. Today is unexpected. I might leave City C soon."

Everly frowned, "Beth, do you want to keep moving just to avoid a man? I think you can solve it face to face no matter what the problem is."

Everly felt that Beth had changed a lot.

Beth may seem a free soul on the outside, but there was deep sorrow in her eyes.

Everly felt a pity for Beth, so she stayed to chat with Beth. They talked a lot.

Beth also talked with Everly about Sarah.

Sarah was Lucas' girlfriend at college. She was also Everly's best friend in high school.

Beth said disdainfully, "Sarah has been kept by a wealthy businessman for the past few years. She has been a mistress. Do you know that?"

...

Sarah had tried her best to steal Everly's boyfriend, Lucas. It looked that she never changed.

It was dawn, four o'clock.

Everly went home and took her luggage. She left a note for her son and hurriedly went to the airport without waking up her family who were sleeping.
