A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married novel Chapter 74

Hearing Maverick's name again, Everly looked even more unnatural.

She felt her lips swollen.

She subconsciously stuck out her tongue and licked the corner of her mouth.

"Mommy and uncle will help you figure out all these things. Anyway, we all believe in you. Don't think too much."

Everly didn't want to talk about Candy a lot in front of Stanley.

After all, very few people knew that Maverick had a daughter.

She quickly changed the topic. "Edmond, say hello to Stanley. As Mommy's friend, he came to see you."

"Just call him Stanley," Everly said.

Stanley took two steps forward. Probably he had expected a five-year-old child to be innocent.

So, when he found Edmond's calmness and clarity of speech, he was somewhat overwhelmed.

"Everly, your son looks very smart." Stanley smiled and greeted Edmond, "As your mother said, you can call me Stanley. Nice to meet you."

Edmond looked calm.

He looked Stanley over from head to bottom. He dared not to disobey Everly, so he reluctantly said, "Nice to meet you, Stanley."

Everly felt satisfied to hear this.

This is the most basic courtesy that Edmond should follow.

However, Edmond soon added, "I don't look smart. I'm smart."

Stanley didn't know what to say.

Everly rubbed her nose. "Edmond!"

"Isn't that so?" Edmond pursed his lips, "Did you meet Stanley on your last blind date, Mommy?"

Stanley was even more speechless.

Stanley was surprised just now, but at this moment he was a little shocked.

Perhaps all children nowadays were so sensible and premature.

Thinking of this, he tried to treat Edmond as an older child. "Yes, we meet on a blind date. Edmond, can I call you that? From now on, let's get along well with each other."

Edmond, on the other hand, didn't show him much respect. "But mommy has had a crush on somebody else."

Everly felt embarrassed.

She didn't know what to say. Although she didn't like Stanley, Edmond shouldn't have said such unpleasant words. She glared at him and said, "Edmond, don't talk nonsense."

However, Stanley said with a smile, "It's alright. He was just a kid. I won't take it seriously."

Edmond said grimly, "You have to take it seriously. There is another handsome guy who would be the perfect dad for me. Stanley, you are not bad, but you are not suitable to be my daddy. So, you don't have any chance here."

There was a sudden silence.

Hendrix just opened the door. Hearing this, he couldn't help but curve his lips.

He felt awkward.

Everly didn't know what to say. Stanley didn't look comfortable, either.

Therefore, Everly tried to get Stanley out of here. She walked over and said, "Stanley, let's go down to have a drink."

Stanley nodded.

Before Everly left, she said, "Hendrix, wait for me for a while."

Whether Stanley was a friend or a blind date of Everly, it was Everly's personal affairs, so Hendrix wouldn't interfere too much.

Everly and Stanley went to the coffee shop opposite the hospital and got seated. Everly didn't have the mood to drink, so she casually ordered a latte.

"Mr. Ford, I think we should clarify something between us," Everly said straightforwardly, "Previously, I was forced by my mother to have a blind date. As for myself, I still want to focus on my career now."

Stanley was not stupid. He knew that Everly was rejecting him.

He thought about it carefully. 'We had a good conversation on WeChat. So, perhaps Everly was doing this now for Edmond.'

'After all, single mothers nowadays are concerned about whether their children can accept their new partner.'

He immediately said, "Everly, you don't have to reject me so quickly. It takes time for two people to get to know each other. I feel so good about you. We can just be friends first."

"No, Stanley, I..."

"Come on. I just want to be your friend. You just got back from America, right? It's not bad for you to make another friend."

Everly wanted to say something else, but Stanley received a call.

It might be a call about his work. Stanley suddenly stood up and said, "I almost forgot. I have something important to do today, so I need to go now. Let's keep in touch."

Everly still wanted to say something.

But before she had a chance to speak, Stanley hurriedly left.

Everly drank more than half a cup of latte by herself. She felt bitter and tasteless.

She had something in mind, so she felt that she shouldn't sit there and drink coffee. She had to face her problem.

She sorted out her emotions and went back to the ward.

Hendrix was busy with his work. He had probably come to tell Everly something today and had been waiting for her in the ward.

When Everly returned, Edmond had fallen asleep.

Everly and Hendrix went to the next room. After they sat down, Hendrix asked, "Did Stanley leave?"

Everly replied with a "yes" while thinking of something else. "Hendrix, how's the investigation going?"

"The school's surveillance camera must have been tampered with. At present, it's a bit difficult to prove that Edmond had nothing to do with the rat poison. However, I think Maverick would believe Edmond. Although I didn't know that Maverick had a daughter, we still developed a good friendship. So, I know him."

Hendrix paused and looked at Everly. "Have you been staying together with Maverick all the time recently? You don't want to leave him for a single moment, right?"

Everly's heart skipped a beat.

She felt that she was seen through.

However, she frowned and retorted, "Hendrix, what do you mean by that? Are you trying to suggest something?"

"I suspect that someone designed all this for letting Maverick know that you have a son." Hendrix sounded confident. "The Mansions were so calculating. Since you replaced Jayden as Maverick's assistant, someone has gone to America to collect your information. It was a famous hacker called KA. So, your information was completely leaked. After that, this incident happened."

Everly had expected part of this.

"The Mansions?"

"Didn't you think that Carolina was Candy's birth mother? I told you, neither of the Mansions was Candy's birth mother. However, both of them tried hard to be her stepmother." Hendrix sneered, "Actually, I think Maverick and the Mansions have the similar reasoning with me. What the Mansions want to do is to let Maverick know that you have a son, so they designed all this to let Edmond and you take the blame."

Hendrix paused for a moment and sighed. "With their strong backing, they know that as long as they don't go too far, Maverick won't do anything to them right now."

"Well, those bitches!" Hendrix concluded, "They are not tired of doing such things."

Everly felt surprised, "I don't expect you to know so much."

"I also know that Maverick treats you differently." Hendrix's eyes became ambiguous, "Tell me what happened between you two."
