A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married novel Chapter 143

Although it was not very loud, Everly was startled.

Everly choked on the water she just swallowed and began to cough.

Everly couldn't see out of one of her eyes now. She looked towards the doorway unconsciously but she missed it. In any case, she was not used to seeing with one eye.

The figure seemed to grow clearer in Everly's eyes.

In just a few seconds, Everly saw the man's face clearly. All the emotions she had been storing up for the past two days seemed about to burst out at once.

Everly didn't feel aggrieved before, but now she felt indescribably bitter and felt like crying. She didn't know tears could come up so fast.

The doctor told Everly clearly that she was not allowed to shed tears.

But Everly couldn't help it.

Her vision went from clear to blurry.

Everly bit her lip, and even bowed her head before she could reach out to wipe away her tears, which fell on the back of her hand.

Everly swallowed and couldn't explain what the overwhelming, mixed feeling was.

Maverick was walking toward Everly. The familiar smell of him immediately reached her. Soon Everly felt thrust into a warm, firm chest.

For a moment, it became more difficult for Everly to control her emotions.

Tears quickly seeped into the chest of Maverick's shirt.

On the way here, Maverick was worried and anxious, but now he felt heartbroken.

He knew very well that he had never felt such a heart-wrenching feeling before.

"Does it hurt?"

Maverick felt that Everly was shedding so many tears that a large part of his shirt was wet. Maverick did not know how to comfort her. His voice was husky but sexy due to his fatigue from his all-night journey here. Maverick said in her ear, "I'm sorry. It's my fault. I didn't protect you. Does it hurt?"

Everly really wanted to say that it hurt.

However, the words died on her lips. Instead, Everly said, "No, it doesn't hurt."

Everly said in a broken voice, and it sounded like she was pretending to be strong.

Everly didn't want to be like that and she seemed to be hypocritical right now.

However, Maverick was holding Everly, and she felt as if she was being embraced by the whole world, and the sense of lost security returned.

As the tears welled up, it seemed that all her anxiety, hesitation, and self-reproach vanished.

However, even though Maverick knew nothing about doctor's advice, he was sure that Everly could not keep crying.

Maverick comforted her gently. "Alright. You can tell me anything you want. And I know how you feel. But don't cry. Your eye's hurt. You can't keep crying."

Everly grunted.

Maverick saw Everly was aggrieved.

When Everly nestled in his arms, his heart overflowed with tenderness.

Maverick really wanted to be with her.

Maverick wiped the tears from Everly's eyes gently and sighed. "It's my fault. It's all my fault. Everly, don't cry. Your eye's injured. You definitely can't continue shedding tears like this."

Maverick comforted Everly patiently. Although he didn't say honeyed words, Everly felt very sweet.

Over the years, plucking up the courage, Everly moved on defying all difficulties. Wasn't she tired of taking care of her son all by herself?

She just didn't want to admit it.

Everly had to live the life she chose, no matter what.

Sometimes, when Everly felt wronged, she would just bear with it. Without a shoulder to rely on, Everly knew she couldn't cry.

But it was different now.

Maverick came out of nowhere to move into her heart when she was at her weakest.

Everly felt that she had no choice but to surrender.

Maverick comforted Everly for a while before she calmed down slowly.

Maverick sat on the sofa with Everly in his arms. Seeing that Everly almost calmed down, Maverick began to ask her about something.

"I haven't had the time to call Hendrix. Did you record it?"

Everly replied with a cracked voice, "Actually, Sarah's live broadcast reminded me of something."

"What is it?"

"Did you start working at Lamont Group five years ago? When I was trying to get you to invest, I read a lot about you, but I found that a lot of your information was deliberately erased. I didn't think much of it before, but now I suppose you did it on purpose, didn't you?"

Maverick smiled. "Didn't I tell you things were more complicated when I was in Italy?"

"I was still a college student at that time, and I liked painting, but my family didn't have much money. And one of my favorite masters was going to be there. I knew that and then ... told my boyfriend Lucas. He got me a ticket. Little did I know that Sarah had the ticket, but I think Lucas got it. So Sarah blamed me."

Five years ago, Lamont Group, an art exhibition?

Maverick didn't remember much about it.

But now that Everly said this, of course he remembered.

Maverick was actually the one who proposed the exhibition.

At the time, Maverick had not yet taken full control of Lamont Group. The company was working on a large mansions project and each was worth tens of millions.

They invited top designers to get it done.

The designer was on good terms with Maverick.

The designer accepted the mansion project, and hoped that Maverick would open an art exhibition for his brother.

The point, of course, was not to have an exhibition, but to bring in famous masters.

It was not too difficult for Maverick and it was a success at the time.

But what Maverick didn't know was that there was such an incident in between.

Maverick tried hard to remember, but he didn't seem to remember ever meeting Everly.

His first impression of her was that night.

Maverick reached out and pinched her face. "Have you always forgotten a lot?"

Everly was stunned. "Of course not. I might just forget something that isn't that important."

Maverick was helpless.

It seems that five years ago ... he was not that important to her.

"I'll have someone look into what you said. Did you attend that banquet?"

"No, something happened to Hendrix. I didn't go there and didn't see the person I wanted to see." Everly paused as if something popped into her head, and then said, "But I think I saw you at the door of the hotel."
