A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married novel Chapter 197

Jack had not met Edmond for a long time.

During this time, Jack had been hiding everywhere. In Edmond's heart, there was a world of difference between the Uncle Jack in front of him and the one in the past.

The feeling of a child was the same as that of an adult, and it was also somewhat different.

A child was straightforward, or perhaps it could be said that a child would naturally show his fears.

Because a child did not know how to control his emotions.

The panic in Edmond's heart was completely exposed to Jack's eyes.

Jack was a native American. He had not shaved for a few days and was like a kiwi. His eyes were deep like an ocean. Now he was staring at Edmond, which made Edmond quite unnerving.

"Uncle Jack..."

Jack finally said, "I won't hurt you, but you have to be obedient. You know, I like obedient children. You used to be a good boy and just keep on, okay?"

Edmond was about to cry, "No... I want my mom. I want my dad. Uncle Jack, please let me go. Let me go... I'm afraid."

"Dad?" Jack seemed to have grasped the key point. His thick dark eyebrows suddenly frowned. "He has already been your dad? He must have already known. No wonder..."

"No wonder they are all looking for you now. Don't be afraid, Edmond. I am protecting you. Do you know that? If uncle hadn't taken you away at that time, you wouldn't be in America now. Instead, you are in a country called Italy," he said to himself.

How could Edmond understand Jack's words? Edmond would only feel that Jack had become so terrifying that he was gonna swallow Edmond at any time.

He was too scared to cry.

"Don't cry anymore. I've already said that I won't hurt you, but you have to follow me." Jack seemed to lose his temper.

Regardless of whether Edmond understood or not, he continued to speak to himself, "Am I willing to do that? I am also threatened by others. Why do you refuse to listen to my words? If your mom could have cooperated with me, we wouldn't be here today. Do you understand? It's not my fault, but yours. I'm also very tired and regretful."

"Why?"

"I have always been threatened. I don't want to do that either... Don't cry anymore!"

"I've told you not to cry anymore! Shut up! Shut up!"

Jack suddenly threw the bottle of water out. The bottle fell on the floor, and let out a very harsh sound, which couldn't be covered by Edmond's crying.

Edmond was more sensible than other kids in his age.

Scared as he was, he could perceive that Jack was angry.

He rubbed his eyes, looking at Jack through his misty eyes. Only at this time did Edmond realize that this guy was no longer the Uncle Jack he knew before.

He thought of the anime he had watched. The protagonist would be quite calm when facing the bad guys. If the protagonist encountered difficulties, he couldn't behave in a panic. Thus, tears could not solve any problems.

He thought of the anime he had always been watching and the character that he liked very much.

Edmond finally stopped crying. Perhaps he was afraid that Jack would go crazy and hurt him.

He made an apology.

"Uncle Jack, I was wrong. I won't cry, but don't be so fierce. I'm afraid."

Edmond took after Everly very much. During this time, Jack had been threatened to get mad but he had always felt guilty towards Everly. Because of that, Jack had never hurt Everly.

Apart from that incident back then.

Looking at Edmond, he calmed down a little and thought of Everly.

Taking a deep breath, he let go of his tightly clenched fists and finally said, "Be good. I won't hurt you, but you have to be with me. I will protect you."

Edmond did not know what this so-called protection meant.

But Jack has told Edmond that he wouldn't be hurt more than one time.

In fact, he also had some feelings for Jack. Edmond did not know that Jack was his delivery doctor. Jack was somewhat playing an important role in Edmond's growth path.

Jack also had an affection for Edmond.

Such affection would make it easier for them to get along with each other.

For example, now Edmond would subconsciously believe what Jack said and he could calm himself down as well.

Edmond said to Jack, "I'm hungry."

Jack glanced at the bottle of water on the ground and murmured to himself, then said, "Wait for me, I'll go buy you something to eat. But, Edmond, don't run away. I'll lock the door and this is the only time I can believe you. If you move or want to escape, then from now on, you will have to starve, understand?"

Edmond pursed his lips and remained silent.

Jack narrowed his eyes, "Or do you want to starve now?"

Edmond's stomach was growling. He had no other choices but said, "Uncle Jack, I won't run away. I'm hungry and I want to eat."

Jack nodded. Before he left, he pointed at his own eyes and then the surveillance camera in the corner, which meant that Edmond was being watched.

Hearing the sound of locking the factory's big iron gate, the five-year-old Edmond was frightened again.

...

Everly knew she was dreaming again.

She'd had nightmares these few days.

She had dreamt of Edmond being thrown out of the car or being shot. What's worse, she would dream that Edmond got lost and she couldn't find him day after day, so finally, she got mad.

Waking up from the nightmare, her whole body ached and her head became dizzy, which was hard to describe how uncomfortable she was.

Everly touched her cheek and realized that she was crying.

Edmond, where are you?

She reached for her phone. There were a few missed calls and WeChat messages.

They were from Maverick.

Everly could only fall asleep when she took the sleeping pills. She hadn't had a good rest for a long time but didn't want her body to collapse.

Though she felt dizzy, she managed to regain her spirit. The message from Maverick said, "There will be clues soon."

Everly was still worried. Just as she was about to make a call, there was a knock on the door. Then, she heard Gloria's voice, "Everly, are you awake? Can mom go in?"

Everly patted her cheek to cheer herself up. She quickly got out of bed and went to open the door.

Gloria had also been haggard these days. She'd already been getting aged and had been carefree in her twilight years. Other than worrying about Parrish's health, her later years of life should have been very happy.

But now, because of Edmond, she was deadly shocked. What's worse, Gloria always thought that it was her responsibility that she didn't take good care of Edmond.

"Mom, didn't you go to sleep?"

"How can I sleep?" Gloria sighed and pulled Everly's hand, almost shedding tears, "Everly, these days, I have been thinking about what happened that day. I haven't had dementia and remember it clearly. I tried very hard to recall that there was indeed a person at that time. The guy dressed up bizarrely. I think he must be the one who took Edmond away."

"Mom, don't think too much. Maverick told me that Edmond will be found soon."

"No, Everly, listen to me. Now I can clearly memorize it. At that time, a man wearing a very strange outfit passed by me. He was dressed in black and even his cap was black. He was also wearing a mask, tall and strong, and looked quite burly."
