A Promising Youth novel Chapter 5

When I returned home, it was still the same dark and closed environment, dark living room with small doors and windows. There were too many unpleasant memories of my youth, and now I thought about it, my bones were still chilled.

Master was right, although I learned my skills, the character flaws caused by my family of origin, the cowardly inferiority complex in my bones, could not be changed through study.

It was like a hock, I couldn't shake it off, and it just ate away at my character, my self-confidence.

At dinner, my parents again talked about my brother's marriage and asked about the girl. At that time, I was nervous, afraid that the pretty girl became my future sister-in-law.

I didn't dare to interrupt and ask, because I still had no status in the family. In their mere words, I heard that the girl was in the same class as my brother, and then I felt relived, because the pretty girl was a class higher than me.

Late at night after I got home, I couldn't sleep for a long time and took out a book from under my bed, which was actually the most ordinary textbook, but inside it, there was a tissue paper which made it so precious!

This tissue was handed to me by that pretty girl. I had never used it. Over many years, the fragrance of magnolia flowers on the tissue, instead of dissipating, impregnated the pages of book with the fragrance.

‘Girl, where are you?

Do we have a chance to see each other again in this life?

Do you know that your words and warm move changed my life and gave me the courage to live?’

Infinite emotions hit me and I held the book tightly into my arms, feeling like holding her, the girl of my dreams.

Late at night there was the sound of a door opening outside. My brother and my mother went to the living room.

“Anika, do you have enough money?” My mother asked.

“I asked all the villagers and borrowed 80,000 yuan.”

My father said as he sipped his water.

“You're useless parents!”

My brother was immediately upset, and he said indignantly, “

It's 160,000 for down payment, what about the remaining 80,000 yuan?”

My mother said,

“Keep your voice down, don't wake your brother up!”

Father said in a deep tone.

“The village wants to raise funds to build a factory. It just happens to use our family's land, an acre of 20,000. If it is all sold out, we will have 80,000, which will transfer to our account tomorrow morning and then we can pay for the down payment of the house.”

Hearing that, I lay in my little room and was distraught that I couldn't breathe!

To buy a house for my brother, my parents went into debt and even sold the land they relied on to survive!

And when did they ever think of me?

I was their son, too. Had they ever been so good to me?

But what happened next chilled me even more when my father spoke up and asked.

“Has it done with your brother’s business?”

At the time, I thought that they were talking about getting me a job, but my mother hurriedly interjected.

“Keep your voice down!

Get in the room and don’t let him hear that!”

Then I heard them went to my brother's room and closed the door. At that time I thought, it was not something unseemly to introduce a job to me, why did they try to hide it?

If in the past, I would never dare to lie on the door to eavesdrop, but now was different. Although I was still humble and timid, at least I understood that I should master my own destiny.

Barefoot, I tiptoed into the living room and bent down to the door of my brother's room, only to hear the most horrible thing in the world, ever!

My brother said with great interest.

“It's all done. It's a black coal mine out of town. Once you send him in, he'll never get out again.”

“Hey, he is also our son, you guys do this ......”

My mother sighed. In that moment a warmth surged through my cold heart, but the next moment, she asked.
