Why did she lie to him?

Why did she not tell him that she was the girl he had saved?

“I’ll go to Salem City this time. Give me her phone number, I’ll ask her myself!”

Jace did not want to spend time looking for answers on his own as he knew that Sage would be able to hide things from him as long as she did not want him to find out. Besides, what else could he do when her hacking skills were superior to his?

This was the first time he had felt such strong love and hatred for a woman while at the same time feeling helpless.

He was on the verge of insanity.

Sage, on the other hand, was heading home.

Leaning into the car seat, Sage shut her eyes to get some rest. In the meantime, she was considering what Luther had analyzed for her, as well as Yoel’s concerns about the project. No matter how she saw it, the best solution was to have Yuriel Group on board for the horse racing project.

Sage had always stuck to the rule of not bringing personal feelings into work.

There was no reason that Jace should be an exception.

Sighing softly, Sage opened her eyes, wound down the car window, and looked out at the night sky. Feeling the cold breeze, Sage could not seem to find peace. People always said that time would heal all wounds, but she had loved him with all her heart, and it would take some time before she could let go and move on

To this day, she still remembered how she had fought alongside him ten years ago, how it had felt to be in his arms, how he had looked concerned and worried for her, and how his arms had been the safest place to be.

She remembered asking him, “What is your name? Thank you for saving me, I’ll be sure to repay your kindness.”

He had said, “I’m Jace Yuriel. You don’t owe me anything. Just promise me that you’d stay alive, well, and healthy.”

Sage smiled ruefully, and she softly recited a poem

“Most people in life are there when you are surrounded by dreams and summer laughter.

“They stay till the wind changes, the tides tum, or disappear with the first snow.”

One would grow older, one’s heart would change, and one’s love for another would too, disappear.

Yeva and Leah were having dinner when Sage entered the house. At the sight of Sage, both girls quickly scrambled to their feet.

“Good evening, Sage.” Both of the girls greeted Sage politely.

Sage simply nodded and glanced at them.

Things had been quiet for some time since Leah had come. Even though she had seen them through the hidden cameras, it was still different

Leah looked thinner than she appeared in the video. She was literally skin and bones.

The three cousins were close in age. Yeva was younger to Sage by a year, and Leah was younger than Yeva by a year. Back then, when Sage’s family was not as prosperous, the three of them were close.

So what was it that had changed?

“Sage, have you eaten?” Looking at Sage, Leah asked carefully, “Do you want to…eat with us?”

“It’s fine. I’ve already eaten.”

Sage had said all of that indifferently. She had not even bothered to pretend to be friendly with them. “Since you’re here, spend more time with Yeva. It’s tough for her to be fighting her battles alone.”

She then glanced at Yeva. “It’s the second day today. Come to my study after dinner. Remember to bring along the ferrule. Leah, you should come along too.”

Swallowing down humiliation, Yeva nodded. Inwardly, she was seething. “I’ll make sure that you pay for all this humiliation that you put me through!” thought Yeva.
