Arrogant Man VS Unyielding Woman novel Chapter 192

Hearing someone shout from behind, the two people in the ward frowned and turned to see who was making a scene.

Cheat?

Jean curled one's lip in derision. Cheat on Zed? She never thought that something like this could come out of Shirley.

Shirley was blaming her for something Jean hadn't even done. Nor had she bothered to check whether it was true. Jean thought that Shirley's actions could be construed as slander.

"Who are you?" Moore felt displeased. Who was this sharply dressed woman who had no control of her mouth?

"Shirley Wen, this is the patient's room. Please get out, you are annoying to the patient." Jean meant business and asked her to get out.

"Is my being in your way making you angry, Jean? Jean, how could you be so shameless? Zed treats you so well. How can you go behind his back to see another man and cry in front of him? If you still want to deny your immoral behaviour, then I have got nothing to say, " said Shirley with a smirk on her face. Still standing in the doorway, a smug Shirley crossed her arms in front of her chest.

Seeing her get more and more unreasonable, Jean angrily stood up from the chair, walked up to Shirley and swung her hand back to smack her in the face.

Shirley had been slapped once. This time after verbally humiliated Jean on purpose, she was prepared for what was coming next.

She grabbed Jean's hand mid-way and gritted her teeth, "What are you going to do, my sister? You think, I didn't see that coming? For the sake of our relationship, I won't tell Zed. But you need to have some self respect. Don't let Zed get sick of you and kick you out of his house..."

"Don't worry about that." Jean resisted her grip and stared hard at her step sister. "If you don't want to embarrass yourself, get the hell out of here right this minute."

"Ok, ok, I'll leave you two alone." Shirley giggled out of spite and walked past Jean towards the sickbed. She looked Moore up and down, and said, "Handsome! I advise you better not to get romantic with my sister. She's married and if you do not want Zed to know, I think you'd better get it over with as soon as possible. Or, you will end up pretty miserable."

Shirley threatened.

"Miss, I don't know what makes you think there's something illicit going on between me and your sister. I am just a patient lying in bed and your sister is caring for me, which shows that she is a kind-hearted woman worthy of respect. And you, as her sister, have wrongly presumed and blamed us for something we aren't even doing. It is your duty to figure out what's going on before you make such accusations. If I were a petty man, I could have sued you for slander.

On second thoughts, I really doubt that you are sisters. Why, all I can see is just a woman with an evil soul who is trying hard to set her sister up. No doubt your sister isn't bothered to respond to your little trick. If you are clever, leave my room this instant. I want to rest now."

Uttering all this in one breath, Moore began to slightly pant.

Jean was so surprised at how Moore had a way with words so much so that Shirley was blown away.

How satisfying!

Suppressing the urge to laugh out loud as Shirley's face drained off all colour, Jean pursed her lips.

It must have been a first for Shirley to be humiliated this bad. Jean was sure that she must be seething on the inside.

"You are too weak to talk too much. Don't get angry on insignificant people." By now Moore's pants had turned into gasps for air. It seemed he were having a mild asthma attck. Jean moved by his side to comfort him.

"She is like a dirty fly buzzing around. It's so annoying." Moore expressed in disgust at Shirley.

"You...... You two......"

First the insult that she was at a loss to retaliate, then being treated as if she was not there, made Shirley's face burn with shame. This time, her thick-skinned self melted under Moore's harsh attacks.

"You… you wait for my revenge!" Shirley said fiercely and stomped out of the ward.

After a great deal of effort, she had had a chance to humiliate Jean. What she had never thought was that attack had turned on her.

She made up her mind to avenge this.

"Is she...... really your sister?" When Shirley was no longer in the ward, Moore asked with a frown.

"She is my half sister, and I have renounced her along with the rest of the family." Usually Jean was reluctant to mention the Wens in front of other people. But Moore was a smart guy. Going by what he had just seen, irrespective of Jean saying not much, he was able to make a close guess.

"It's good that you renounced them. You are totally different. If you are weaker around them, they must be bullying you hard." Moore nodded while making his point.

Jean's eyes expressed the bitterness she had suffered at the hands of the Wens ever since she was little.

An awkward silence hung between them. Going by her pleasant looks, Moore never thought she could belong to such a dysfunctional family.

Reflecting on the past and all the times she was oppressed, Jean was a little upset.

"It won't happen any more, no one can bully me ever again." After a while, Jean said her resolve with a new confidence.

Moore noticed the clarity and strength Jean's face expressed. Though, she looked angry, her taut body language showed determination.

"I believe you. You did well just now. She couldn't take any advantage of you." Moore comforted her with a smile.

This was quite awkward, realised Jean. After all, Jean and Moore knew each other only for two days, that too, in the most peculiar circumstances. She changed the topic of theie conversation and said, "Moore, what do you do for a living? It's rare for me to see a man with such eloquence, are you a lawyer?"

Jean asked all inquisitive.

"Why do I have to be a lawyer to be eloquent?" Moore looked at her in a jovial manner, "I'm from business management."

"The police were trying to contact your family but failed. Did you just return from abroad?" Recalling what the police had said about his family, Jean was about to ask but Moore anticipated this.

"Yes. From Chicago." In fact, he wasn't trying to hide anything. He revealed, "I am an orphan and was adopted by my foster parents who gave me the best education they could offer. But they were gone before I could return the favor."

"Were your parents from H City?" What she heard next was quite a surprise…

"No, they were foreigners. back then...... though I was a kid but I have a hazy memory of H City. After graduation, I wanted to come here and see......"

Speaking about this, a pall hung over Moore.

Jean regretted the zone in which the conversation was going

And now she had hit a nerve.

"I never thought I would be hit by a car." Soon Moore looked up at Jean and smiled.

Jean was speechless. How could someone smile at the very person who injured him.

"It was careless of me to run the red light and have talk to my friend on the phone, so......" Moore sighed and looked at Jean apologetically.
