Betrothed To The Mafia Lord novel Chapter 149

Luca’s POV

I got out of my car and paused outside the door, already sighting James’ car which pulled into the compound some seconds after the one I was riding in did. After leaving the hospital where Aria was at, I made my way straight home, and alerted James that I was already heading home. It was already our arrangement, that we were to go home together and then he was going to come with me to come question those people who had tried to attack me on tne road in the night, two days ago. I had also invited some other of my workers, they worked with james in the area which specialized in questioning caught people and torturing them until they’d end up speaking.

The two guys were already here waiting for me, and as soon as james car had been parked, and he had alighted, he started making his way towards me instantly. It was almost eight o'clock in the evening, only a few minutes left before it clocks eight.

“How are we doing this?” He asked after stopping beside me and placing a hand on my shoulder.

I nodded my head towards the two guys who were standing at the other side of the compound, and James' eyes followed my trail immediately. “You see those two guys?” I asked and James nodded his head once.

“They’re out for blood and they're very brutal. I’d need you to be the one to be the level headed one between the three of you. Don’t kill them off, just question them and make them speak at slo cost, just don’t get them killed, alright?”

James nodded his head once before lifting his hand off my shoulders and walking around to stand before me, and then he started to speak.

“Don’t you think it’s weird that whoever it was that sent these guys over hasn't come over to come rescue them? I mean, it’s over two days already, isn’t it?” James asked and I let out a small snort before starting to shake my head.

“No, I actually don’t think it’s weird. I mean, do you think it’s ever mafia lord that cares about the well-being of their guys and guards and even people who work for them?”

“Well, actually you do have a point.”

“Or perhaps, whoever it was that sent them, probably thought I’ve killed them off or something, that’s probably why the person hasn't bothered to come fight you in order to save his men.” James continued to speak almost immediately and I carded my fingers through my hair ever so slowly, before I finally started to steak.

“Well, don’t you think the person is a coward in the first place for sending his men instead of coming to me himself?” Indrswked with another small snort and James nodded his head after a moment.

“You do have a point, actually.”

“I’m just going to be more careful, and be more observant. You do the same too, the person might be after you as well.” I said pinning James with a serious look as I said the last of my sentence and I watched as he started to nod his head immediately.

“Of course, of course. I’m definitely going to be more observant and careful, although I’m always careful on a normal day to begin with, so I’m sure I’d be pretty alright.”

“I never doubted for a second.” I mumbled and James snorted a little.

“You do you think could be behind this though? Does anyone come to mind about who could have been behind it?” James started to ask after a few seconds and I gave him a perplexed look instantly.

“Why? Of course.”

“Who are they?”

“A lot of people? Like the enemies whom I inherited from my father?” I continued and that was when a bashful expression covered James face.

“Ohhh.” James mumbled after a fleeing second and I echoed after him instantly. “Yeahhhhhh.”

“Just be on a lookout though, and be more careful. I seriously think we need to have a meeting with the rest of the mafias. Maybe one of them might’ve even have an idea of who it could be that decided to attack you on that particular night, don’t you think so?” James Started to speak once again and I started at him blankly for a few moments before starting to nod my head immediately, he does kind of have a point.

“Sounds like areally good plan. I think you’re right through. But then one of them might be the person who secretly wants me dead, don’t you think so?”

“Oh, well I don’t really know. I know about how we don’t trust anyone on tne team completely, bit then I don’t think any of those men even have it in them to betray you.” James started to speak with a thoughtful expression on his face instantly.

“Everyone is a human, and humans are greedy. I wouldn’t put it past them to be secretly beefing me and then it could even be more than one person on the team who’d want me dead… it might have even been a planned work to begin with.” I continued to speak once afsin, and the more I thought about it and said it out loud, the more it began to make more sense to me and seemed like everything was falling into place.

“Do you know how everyone is scared of you? They’re really afraid of you even if they try very hard to appear cool and fearless around you, I don’t think any of them could pull that, even if they hated you. I don’t think they’d want to do something like that.” James started to speak once again and I stared straight ahead, watching the two guys who were supposed to come question our newest recruits with James, discussing with themselves in low voices, not that I’d even be able to hear them if they weren’t speaking in really low voices to begin with.

“Anyways man, let’s just be seeing, alright? I’d be really careful with myself, you do the same as well.” I lifted my hand and used it to clap James' shoulders a few times, right before I continued. “And remember, no killing of those guys, alright?”

When James didn’t reply to me like he was supposed to, I shoved at his shoulder and he ended up stumbling backwards a little.

“I won’t kill them, alright? Now you’re Just making me sound like a psycho who had mad anger issues and doesn’t know how to control his own rage, that’s exactly how you’re making me sound.” James spat out and I stared up into the sky before letting an expatsted sigh slip out my parted lips.

“Look, I was just telling the truth, we both know how you are when you get in that mood…” I started to speak in a low voice but James placed his hand on my shoulders and squeezed a little, which made me trail off immediately, because I know that assuming we didn’t have a audience at this very moment, that he’d have shoved me hard at me shoulder, but he didn’t because we currently had an audience, and the both of us wouldn’t want people to start figuring out the fact that we were more that business partners, and that he was also my right hand man here in the mafia.

Why? Because, we in the mafia weren’t even supposed to have friends to begin with, that’s the number one thing. And it people start to suspect that Janes and I were really good friends, they might start to want to start targeting him because of me, not that he couldn’t hold his own in a fight, but that I didn’t want him to ever be a target because of me.

Not that he hasn't ever been a target because of me here in the mafia, although it had been because of a different reason entirely. I could remember how James was a really sharp and smart person, he’d have died on that spot on that particular day.

Not wanting to delve into that particular thought at this very moment, I placed my hand on his shoulder and tapped on his a little, and his hold on my shoulder got slack before his hand finally slipped off.

“Let’s talk about this later, alright? I’m sure it’s already past eight at the moment. Y’all go do you thing, I’ll see you tomorrow at the office, yeah?” I said to him in a really low voice, after leaning towsrgs him so our heads were almost touching each other’s in that particular moment.

“Alright, fine. I won't come into your house anymore tonight, I’ll be heading home straight away, as soon as we finish what we came here to do,” James informed him after a moment and I nodded my head once at him before tapping on his shoulder a couple of times more, and then I was taking a step backwards and pointing towards tne two men with my head once again.

“It’s fine by me, I’ll see you at the office tomorrow.”

“Don’t go too hard on them.” I couldn’t help myself from adding that last word just as James had started to head towards the other side of the compound and I watched as he stopped dead in his tracks and slowly turned around to stare at me with a black scowl.

“Alright, fine. I won’t say a thing about that again.” I said to him and watched as he rolled his eyes a little, before starting to make his way towards where he was supposed to be heading to.
