Billionaire Lost to His Surrogate In A Love Game novel Chapter 187

Seeing Ophelia hesitating, Madeleine asked, "Who’s calling?"

Ophelia shook her head and responded, "I have no idea. It’s a strange number."

Madeleine snatched the phone from Ophelia’s hand and hung up, saying, "Since it’s a strange number, don’t answer it. Maybe it’s some phone scam."

Ophelia nodded.

The phone started to ring again when the two picked up the menus. Ophelia stretched out her hand and said, "Madeleine, hand me my phone. I suppose it must be someone I know calling me with someone else’s phone."

Madeleine passed the phone back to Ophelia. Ophelia pressed the answer button and said, "Hello, who’s that?"

"You’re Ophelia, right? I’m Tassach’s mother. We met a few times several years ago. I wonder if you still remember me?"

Ophelia’s face clouded over all of a sudden. She tightened her grip on the phone. It never occurred to her that she would get Mrs. Conduibh’s call five years later, and her voice reminded Ophelia of the nightmares she had used to have.

Just because of this elegant-looking lady who was actually a back-stabber, Ophelia was accused of selling trade secrets and almost thrown into prison. Thanks to this woman, Ophelia was plunged into misery, so she was scared upon hearing her voice again now.

Ophelia took a deep breath, managed to calm down and said coolly, "Hello, Mrs. Conduibh. I wonder what you’re calling me for."

Madeleine widened her eyes in astonishment when hearing Ophelia calling "Mrs. Conduibh". She stared at the phone in Ophelia’s hand and said through clenched teeth, "Ophelia, give me your phone."

Ophelia shook her hand, made an eye gesture to Madeleine telling her to stay away, and continued, "Mrs. Conduibh, are you still there? What are you calling me for?"

"Do you have time now? I want to invite you to lunch. I do have something to tell you," Mrs. Conduibh said on the other end of the line.

"Excuse me, Mrs. Conduibh, but I’m having lunch with my friend, so I may not be able to accept your invitation," Ophelia declined.

After what had happened to her, Ophelia didn’t really want to see Mrs. Conduibh again.

"It’s alright. I can have lunch with you guys. You just need to tell me your address, and I’ll join you," Mrs. Conduibh insisted.

Frowning, Ophelia still wanted to refuse. "Mrs. Conduibh, I’m afraid that you won’t feel comfortable eating with my friend. How about this? Since I’m free tomorrow noon, let’s meet then. What do you think?"

Mrs. Conduibh wouldn’t give up. "I can eat with your friend. Although I’m senior to you guys, I can get on with the young people."

Now that Mrs. Conduibh said that, Ophelia could do nothing but let her come.

Ophelia told Mrs. Conduibh the location and the latter hung up immediately.

Madeleine asked, "She’s coming to join us?"

Ophelia nodded.

Madeleine got angry. "Does this woman have any dignity left? After what she did to you, she still has the gall to call you."

Ophelia comforted her. "Madeleine, calm down. It’s been so long since what happened. We’ll only make ourselves uncomfortable if we don’t let go."

Madeleine slapped the menu down on the table and snapped, "How can I not get mad? The Conduibh family went too far and drove us to the wall. If you hadn’t met Zachariah and signed the marriage pact, you would have been in prison right now. I have never seen anyone so nasty and mean. If I got a chance, I would spit on the whole Conduibh family. Humph, they’re nothing but a bunch of hooligans in rich people’s clothing. At least hooligans rob you aboveboard."

"Come on. Don’t be angry anymore." Ophelia patted Madeleine on the back of her hand and consoled her, "Since you know they’re vulgar, don’t be mad at them because they’re not worth your anger, and we won’t see them in the future. Just don’t worry, and don’t get too agitated when we have lunch together later."

"I’ve lost all my appetite at the thought of them. I don’t even want to eat anymore. I wonder why you can still stay so calm and allow her to join us. Are you out of your mind?" Madeleine wished she could tear Ophelia’s head apart to see what was wrong with her brain. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have agreed to eat with Mrs. Conduibh as if nothing had ever happened.

"She’s just an irrelevant person, and it’s not worthwhile being mad at her. Besides, they wouldn’t know if I got angry, so why bother?"

Madeleine glared at Ophelia, finding herself always shut down by Ophelia’s sophistry.

"Come on. Don’t be angry. There’s no point getting mad at some irrelevant person," Ophelia comforted her.

Madeleine ordered plenty of dishes to vent her anger.

It didn’t take long before Mrs. Conduibh walked elegantly into the restaurant carrying her designer bag.

She went straight to Ophelia’s table and sat down on her own, saying, "What makes you want to have hot pot? The smell is simply disgusting. Can’t you eat in a fancy restaurant?"

Madeleine snorted and replied, "We’re just ordinary people, not ladies like you, Mrs. Conduibh. If you can’t eat it, there’s the door."

Mrs. Conduibh’s eyes moved curiously over Madeleine’s face and she wondered, "Who’s this? She looks familiar. I might have seen her before."
