Blood Oath: Forever Yours novel Chapter 40

She could see him even clearly now that she was closer to him.

His head and leg were wrapped in thick gauze. Because the injury on his leg had an infection and his wound had reopened, his blood was still oozing slowly from his wound under the thick gauze on his leg.

Besides, his whole facial features had become even more defined due to his short hair, but he looked thinner now.

Charlotte’s heart throbbed in pain.

Seeing him frowned and groaned in pain, his dry lips squirmed as if he wanted to say something.

Charlotte hurriedly rushed towards him and carefully helped him up. She took the warm water aside and gently handed it to him.

“Drink some water.”

She said gently, but her voice made Laurence relieve and calm down.

After he had obediently drank the water and laid down on bed, Charlotte subconsciously raised her hand to feel the temperature of his forehead. She saw the warm water placed by the bed, so she lowered her head to wring the towel. Then, she wiped his face.

After that, she slightly opened the collar of Lawrence’s shirt to wipe his neck and chest.

The moment she placed her hand down, she saw a dazzling ring hanging with a red rope around his neck.

The rope was so long that no one could’ve seen it at all without opening his clothes.

And that ring... was one of their couple rings that belonged to him. Five years ago, when he hated her, he had sent someone to return the ring to her. This ring was cherished by her up until now.

She didn’t know when the ring was back in his hands.

Charlotte stopped her action to wipe Lawrence’s body. She stretched out her hand and held the ring up. Then, she could clearly see the initial of his name "L" engraved on the inner side of the ring.

Her tears flowed down in an instant.

She raised her hand and covered her mouth, but she still couldn’t stop her sobbing which sounded from the gap between her fingers.

"Lotta."

A man's hoarse voice sounded from above.

Charlotte was stunned when she heard that. She raised her head and saw Lawrence with his eyes opened. He was staring intensely at her.

There seemed to be a shallow smile in his eyes. He wriggled his lips in difficulty and murmured.

“I hated you before, and you hate me now. Now we don't owe each other, right?"

To get even and start over like nothing had happened before.

Charlotte covered her chest in pain as she watched him struggling to speak but couldn't say anything out.

“Lawrence, we...”

When she looked up again, Lawrence had already closed his eyes and fallen asleep.

Charlotte’s eyes were red as she looked at him in tears for a long time. Then, she choked with sobs and said, “It’s too late, Lawrence. We couldn’t go back now...”

The next second, she suddenly reached out her hand and pulled down the red rope around his neck.

“We couldn’t go back anymore!”

...

“Lotta...”

Lawrence suddenly opened his eyes and sat up from the bed. His movements were too vigorous that he accidentally scraped against his wound. He felt a sudden sharp pain on his leg.

“Mr. Harris.”

Jeffrey quickly came to Lawrence and supported him.

“Your fever had just gone down. The doctor said that your condition was really bad, you mustn’t torment yourself anymore!”

Lawrence didn’t listen to him.

He frowned and swiftly looked around with his cold gaze.

The next second, he placed his hand at his neck.

Nothing. The ring was gone!
