I ignored the apology from Layne and his family because I thought that was the best way to handle it. As long as I ignored Layne, his wife would relax her guard. I did not want her money, and his wife would not hate me.

So I turned and left, no longer wanting to entagle with them. 

Unexpectedly, Layne's wife suddenly cursed that I had seduced her husband and then found someone to help me retaliate. Her words were really unpleasant, that even Layne could not stop her.

I turned and looked at Layne. He looked at me with embarrassment. My heart softened. "I accept your apology, but I do not need money. It's not easy to make money. You should take it back."

Layne still refused to leave. He said, "Darcey, you'd better take the money, or... or we'll feel guilty."

"It's really unnecessary. Layne. Our past relationship was really complicated and I think your wife misunderstood. I won't take it to heart. You can go back."

After that, I turned to leave right away. I did not want to do anything with them anymore. I did not want to see Layne and his wife again. 

After I returned to the office, I heard from my colleagues that they waited a while before leaving. It seemed that Layne's wife left because she did not feel well.

I secretly rejoiced that I didn't get involved with her. Otherwise, I would be blamed for everything that could have happened to the child. In that case, even if Gavin came forward and helped again, I wouldn't get rid of their entanglement anymore. 

After sending them away, I thought I could finally have peace for a while. Unexpectedly, my mother called me again. She hysterically said, "Darcey! They... they came to ask for money again! They said that they would send your father to prison if we don't give money!"

Besides my mother's voice, I heard other voices over the phone. They must be the people who came to my house to cause trouble. My heart suddenly beat faster, and I could not wait to run home right away.

Suddenly my mind went blank. The first moment I panicked. I thought about how I could get so much money. I became furious at the thought. Two million and five hundred thousand? Had not they said it was only two hundred and twenty-five thousand?
