Can't Let Go novel Chapter 146

“It wasn’t you that night, was it?”

  It had been three years.

The shameful issue of mistaken identity had passed for three years.

Why would there be a video?

Could it be that framing him up that night was not the true aim, while shooting the video was?

  Why would she do this?

Did she want to frame Nian up?

Instantly, George’s train of thoughts turned around a thousand times.

The more he thought, the more dreadfully pale his face became.

His body, holding Duoduo, was obviously shaky.

Linda hastened to support George, and her eyes were filled with worry: “Nianguang, are you OK?”

“Mr. Mo, this must be you, the person in the video was Linda. Look, the birthmark was so obvious back there. We all know it.” The journalist hastened to add.

Right, she had shown the birthmark in a video three years ago.

  Therefore, most people knew it.

“Excuse me, when did you have that love affair with Ms. Yun? Does Mr. Huo know it?”

“Mr. Mo, I hear that Mr. Huo is helping you with your company in Austral City, is it good for you to treat him by making love with his wife?”

“Right, Mr. Mo. This video shows it so clearly.” With it, the journalist rushed in a little, and then started to yell as if he had discovered a new continent: “Good heavens! Last night the three of you stayed in the same house, then...you must be sleeping together again! Does Mr. Huo know it?”

“Mrs. Huo, I hear that you haven’t divorced yet. Mr. Huo was waiting at his mother’s side last night. Why didn’t you go to the hospital as her daughter-in-law? Instead, you are here with...” Before these words were finished, everybody giggled under their breath.

“Shut the fuck up!” George held Duoduo firmly, and scolded loudly with scarlet eyes: “It was not Linda, but Mary in the video!”

Everybody was stunned, and then looked at each other.

Presently, they laughed satirically: “Mr. Mo, isn’t it inappropriate for you to clear your name now? Three years ago, Mary looked like Susan Cai, and everybody in Austral City knows it!”

“That’s right. Don’t deny it, Mr. Mo. According to our investigation, Ms. Yun and you were playmates in childhood.”

“Ms. Yun, will you divorce Mr. Huo? Or, will you deny like Mr. Mo, and blame your elder sister instead?”

Linda remained silent, and kept looking at the journalists coldly.

  This was complete malice.

Three years ago, she thought the video would disappear after being played on that day.

But she didn’t expect it to be hidden for so long.

But a lot of things would be forgotten with the passage of time.

Nowadays, many people didn’t remember Mary was the same as her.

In their mind, there were only faces of Mary and Miss Cai.

No one could imitate a birthmark.

Let alone this wasn’t exposed in the past.

Therefore, nobody would believe it when it was mentioned again today.

Besides, Mary had a car accident and was changed beyond recognition. She underwent a plastic surgery, and there was no way to know whether the birthmark on her back was still there any more.

But she was not dwelling on this problem now; instead, she was worring about George.

“I’ve told you, it wasn’t Linda, it was Mary who cheated me!” George’s voice was obviously very anxious.

He was scared. He was really scared about bringing trouble and worry to Linda.

If he didn’t explain it, then Linda had to remain a scapegoat.

What followed would be various libels and offensive language.

He couldn’t involve her in such dangerous circumstances whatsoever.

Therefore, he had to explain it clearly.

However, the paparazzi didn’t believe him at all, nor would they give him such opportunities.

Therefore, sarcastic questions came one after another.

“Libel? Could it prove that you are still in love with Linda, so that you mistook Mary for Linda and went to bed with her? Or else, why would you be framed up?”

These journalists were crazy. They would concentrate on one point and guide them towards those embarrassing topics.

“Mr. Mo, are you protecting her now? Are you afraid of Mr. Huo’s divorce with her?”

“Mr. Mo, is the kid deaf-mute because of your love affair? Is that why you gave birth to a disabled child?”

“Shut up!” George roared. He was so angry that his body kept shaking: “Duoduo isn’t disabled!”

Although Duoduo couldn’t speak, he could hear.

Although he couldn’t speak since his childhood, everybody around him had been very gentle.

The neighbors around him were all warm-hearted and kind.

He had never heard such sarcastic and harsh remarks, so he couldn’t cope with it and burst into tears.

“Duoduo is three years old, if there is really something between Nian and me, how could he grow so old? Everybody knew about Mrs. Huo’s abortion three years ago, you do the math.” George forced himself to calm down sternly.

The journalists started to laugh: “Mr. Mo, how can we trust you? Are you telling the truth about his age? You can lie about his age. I don’t think he looks like a three-year-old. He is two years old at most.”

“Two years old? Can your kid know so much at two?” George stared at the journalist and asked.

The journalist was a little stunned, and then he smiled: “There are so many whiz kids now. A lot of kids can talk at the age of one and recite 'Three Hundred Tang Poems’ at two years old. By the way, the kid of Linda and you is not that talented, either!”

  “You...”

“Right, the person in the video was me!”

Suddenly, Linda broke the silence and said.

  Everybody was struck dumb.

Linda looked at these paparazzi coldly without billowing in her eyes: “Why? Your wish is fulfilled, why do you keep silent?”

“Nian, stop monkeying!” George grabbed her wrist while his face grew pale. He prevented her from talking nonsense.

But Linda waved her hands. She still stared at the crowd, and sneered: “Right, it was me in the video. Besides, I have been separated from Michael for three years. We are automatically divorced. Now are you satisfied?”

“Nian, that’s not true. Don’t talk like that.” George was obviously standing unsteadily. He hastened to Duoduo off, and then grabbed her hands with red eyes: “Don’t talk such nonsense. Tell them that was your elder sister.”

Linda looked at how worried George was and the uncontrollably shaking hands. She knew that he was nervous and anxious.

But she found it impossible to deny.

She didn’t know who released this video.

But at this moment, nobody would believe it wasn’t her.

If she kept denying, everybody in Austral City would not dare to scold her, and George would naturally be the one suffering.

By that time, rumors would become countless sharp swords, piercing into his body and heart mercilessly.

And he couldn’t be irritated any more.

Therefore, she wanted to protect him.

She wanted to take all the blame.

Even though she would be cursed and detested by everybody again.

So what? Anyway, it wasn’t her first time to be a scapegoat and cursed.

As long as Nianguang was well, everything was worth it.

All the people looked at each other quietly. Then, a journalist said boldly: “So... Duoduo is the kid of Mr. Mo and you, isn’t he?”

  “Yes!” Linda nodded.

  “Nian!”

Linda held George’s hand, patted it, and told him not to be nervous.

While Duoduo was struck dumb. Who, who was his Dad?

  “So...does Mr. Huo know it?”

Linda looked at the journalist who was asking, and the lens in her hand with a sneer: “Now, do you think it is possible for him to be in the dark?”

  ————

Michael was watchhing the network TV and feeling dumbfounded in the VIP ward.

He looked very awkward and haggard.

Last night, Qu Zhirong was in a coma, so he felt inconvenient to leave.

And he remained there for a whole night without sleeping.

Finally, the morning came. When doctors made the rounds of wards, they said there was nothing wrong with her; she fainted because she was too worried and anxious.

They asked her to have a good rest and do more things that made her happy.

He was about to rush to the hotel as soon as he had handled things here when he saw the live broadcast of this entertainment channel.

At this moment, the man looked dejected. It was as if his heart had been hit badly.

  That video...

Was it really George and her in it...

He didn’t believe it; he didn’t believe it at all.

  But why...

  Why would she admit it?

“Cousin Michael... Are you OK?” Susan walked over and said in a low voice.

Michael held the edge of the bed, and smiled faintly. His eyes looked moist, as if they were covered by a layer of hazy fog, which made it impossible for others to see his expressions clearly.

“Cousin Michael... Don’t, don’t be sad! I am here!” Susan hastened to say sympathetically.

“I told you she was not dependable long time ago!” Qu Zhirong said sternly soon after she woke up.

“Enough is enough! Stop talking!” David Huo frowned and scolded Qu Zhirong.

Qu Zhirong rolled her eyes: “The evidence is irrefutable, why do you ask me to stop? Would it be false if I stopped it?”

David Huo knitted his brows, and clicked his tongue. He stopped her from talking.

Then, he came up to his son and said: “Michael, as for this...”

“Dad!” Michael interrupted. Then, he raised his head and looked at him while managing a smile: “I don’t believe it! I don’t believe that was her!”

“By what are you befuddled? She has admitted it in person, hasn’t she?” Qu Zhirong would almost be driven mad on seeing how stubborn he was.

“I’ll ask her about it!” He looked at David Huo: “Dad, I’ll leave here first.”

David Huo didn’t stop him. He said with a faint smile: “OK, go ahead and ask her!”

So Michael didn’t stay there any longer. He left with the key of his car.

“Hey, Mike!” Qu Zhirong sat up, and wanted to scream out.

David Huo looked at her: “Don’t prevent him, leave him alone. The doctor says you are fine, I’ll handle the discharge formalities for you.”

With it, David Huo walked out.

“Hey, you...” Qu Zhirong was mad by seeing the attitude of her husband.

At this moment, Susan who had remained silent raised her head and looked at Qu Zhirong: “Aunt...”

Qu Zhirong was a little stunned: “What’s up? Come over here, why are you crying in a sudden?”

Susan walked up to her with her red eyes and she choked: “I have never seen Cousin Michael look like that, he was so sad...” With it, she pointed at her heart: “It hurts here. Aunt, will I really lose Cousin Michael?”

  Qu Zhirong: ...
