Capo Dei Capi (Secrets of the Famiglia Part 1) novel Chapter 57

"If I have to sit with another Moretti again in the next year, I'll kill the fucking lot myself," Leonardo grumbles from the sofa that's flushed against my office WALL by the door.

For once I didn’t blame my brother for his bad mood. Leonardo liked to complain. Most of the time it was a complaint not warranted but today was that odd occasion where it was more than warranted.

"It was negotiations! They're over! Today we'll meet our stubborn brother’s future bride and possible future end, blah blah blah." Anya makes a wavy notion with her fingers as she turns to face us.

"Camilla sounds like a Cruella or Druzella! It doesn't scream Cinderella or Belle," Anya points out, as her black dress kisses my carpet when she spins to face me.

“More like the evil witch from Snow White.”

“Touché, didn’t know that you watched that sort of thing,” Anya mentions with a chagrin smile.

“You know I watch that shit with Mischa.”

“Keep telling everyone else that, maybe they’d believe the lame excuse but we both know you watch it alone.” Anya can be royal bitch when she wants to.

“Anya,” I say with little to no effort in my voice.

“Back to what we were initially discussing before we were Disney interrupted. Yes, your future wife is a royal bitch, full stop no pun intended.”

"And that's a bad thing?" I query from my sister who was no Teressa.

"Yes! Marco, this is an awful idea. You’re marrying a woman you've never met?"

"And what you have me do? Marry Aliyana? ‘Cause I seem to remember just a few short days, you tryna threaten our brother here into marrying her." She gives me those sheepish eyes as I arch my brow.

"We don't know her! Let's not judge until we see her," Nicole says as she leans her silver suit covered body against the window pane of my office. I forgot she was even here.

"Whatever the reason if it isn't love I think it is a lie," Anya adds.

"It is for love. Just not the kind you want it to be, doesn't make it any less as great."

"I know. But it doesn’t make it any better either. It feels like you have been sold to a fucking nosey spoilt bitch for pocket change."

“Since when have you ever cared about anyone but yourself?” Leonardo asks her.

“I care about Mischa.”

“We all do, which is why we are going to go through with this ridiculous notion.” Deno walks into the room as Nicole finishes her sentence.

“For now. None of us like the idea, but Marco made a deal, and we don’t need a fucking war in our hands with the godfather,” Deno interjects.

I arch my brow in surprise because just this morning he was moaning about it. I wonder about his sudden change of mind but I say nothing, we will talk later of that I’m sure.

There were perks living in the same house as my brother. One of them was his inability to keep anything too long to himself. With Ren’s death he has been dealing with it quietly, but everything else still comes out.

I didn’t need to treat him like I did Anya. He was straight up and I was aware that one day those lines would become darker and we would eventually not be able to tell each other everything but today was not that day.

“Anyway we look at it, the girl would be here soon. I might as well pretend to make an effort.” Nicole says her piece as she walks past Deno and leaves the room. The three of us all stuck in the silence. We know what this could mean and we also know that our game has just begun.
