CEO Proposed to His Ex-wife 99 Times novel Chapter 275

But Katherine didn’t notice all this, focusing solely on Kyle’s stories instead.

Kyle, too, was oblivious to Hector’s and Katherine’s positions, as he continued to speak mysteriously. “Mr. Grant possibly didn’t find out what the fiancée was up to, or maybe he still had feelings for her, too, but either way, he met with her a few times. Their rendezvous were soon discovered by Mrs. Grant, who barged into the fiancée’s house straightaway and went on a screaming and smashing spree.”

Shaking his head, Kyle added, “From what I heard, Mrs. Grant didn’t mince her words as she cursed out the fiancée and her parents.”

And when the fiancée received the news and rushed home, she ran directly into Mrs. Grant, who, slim and agile at the time, got ahold of the fiancée’s hair and started hitting her profusely. The fiancée, knowing herself to be in the wrong, endured the beating without a word and without ever fighting back.

And then, Mrs. Grant left the scene before Mr. Grant could show up, looking as decent and graceful when she left after a big fight as when she walked in. So, in a way, one could say that Mrs. Grant was resolute, efficient, and quick on her feet.

After the incident, Mr. and Mrs. Grant seemed to have reached an agreement, and Mr. Grant never met with the fiancée from the past ever again.

Katherine thought about it before opining. “The fiancée had it coming, but her parents should have been left out of it.”

It was just like Mrs. Grant to get the parents involved in her cursing tirade, which Katherine was annoyed with.

Looking at Katherine, Kyle said, “That’s why you literally rock for giving her a good beating.”

Katherine frowned slightly. “I don’t care how domineering she gets at the Grant residence, but I will not have her dictating me around and trying to get physical with me on my turf. I’m not a pushover, and I will not be bullied.”

Kyle nodded in agreement. “Right? That’s what I think as well. The purpose of my existence is of course to enjoy life, not to endure any severe hardships.”

Hector was looking at Kyle and Katherine in turn.

Sensing Hector around her, Katherine turned instinctively to him, and they almost kissed because of their close proximity.

Startled, Katherine leaned backwards to hide away from him.

Straightening his posture, Hector apologized. “Sorry, I was carried away by Kyle’s story.”

“No problem,” said Katherine with a smile.

Marshall was standing in the front yard at that very moment, looking at the three of them through the living room window.

From his perspective, it looked like Katherine was affectionately resting between Hector’s arms, and Katherine appeared to turn around to plant a kiss on Hector before they exchanged a smile.

Marshall closed his eyes with a frown, unsure what he was doing watching them. It wasn’t exactly a pretty image he was looking at.

Instead of joining them, Marshall got into the car and drove away. He must have been insane to drive here in the first place. Why would he do that? What was being in Katherine’s vicinity going to do for him?

Nothing.

On the way back, he received a call from Grandma Grant, who inquired about his whereabouts, and why he didn’t go home after work.

Marshall knew why grandma was asking – she was worried about him. With no dinner engagements and a lot of trouble on his plate, he couldn’t really go anywhere else.

Marshall replied that he worked a little late and was heading home right now.

“Alright,” said Grandma Grant, “we won’t start dinner without you.”

Marshall threw his phone to the side after he hung up. When he was done parking the car in the Grant residence parking lot, he didn’t immediately get out. Instead, he remained seated with his back against the seat, he was deep in his thoughts.

The Hendersons had released a simple statement around dusk, claiming that Clara hadn’t been involved in anyone’s private lives, thank you all very much, etc. etc.

Which really was a non-explanation.

The Internet was abuzz because of the statement, with people making all kinds of wild guesses. But Marshall didn’t want to know what they were saying any longer.

Their talks with the Hendersons came to no fruition today, since it seemed that whatever the Grants proposed, the Hendersons were unsatisfied with.

The Hendersons thought that they held the ultimate weapon because of the date written on Marshall’s divorce papers, and Clara even shed a few tears in the conference room, looking all aggrieved.

But seeing her cry had irritated Marshall, as it reminded him of seeing Mrs. Grant crying and being unreasonable. The two women had different ways of expressing their opinions, but one thing was clear: they both regarded tears as a weapon.

But Marshall just happened to detest tears and crying.

Uncontrollably, Marshall thought of Katherine. She’d never cried, no matter how much Mrs. Grant had tortured her.

Marshall sat in the car for quite some time, only getting out of it after Grandma Grant made another call.

Grandma and Mr. Grant were both waiting at the dining room. Grandma Grant smiled when Marshall came in. “Go wash your hands for dinner.”

That Marshall did, despite his lack of appetite.

Grandma Grant sighed as he sat down at the table. “Your father has updated me on what happened in the office today. If you ask me, let’s just minimize the incident as much as possible, if it’s no use explaining to the public. If you stay away from Clara, people will be able to discern what the truth of the matter is.”

Looking at Mr. Grant, Marshall asked, “Can you detect an ounce of good faith from the attitudes and statement of the Hendersons, dad?”

Throughout the negotiation with the Hendersons earlier today, Marshall kept wanting to lash out at Tomas, who had seemed very keen to direct media attention to Marshall and Clara, and whose sneaky but easily perceivable calculations riled Marshall to no end.

Nodding, Mr. Grant replied, “I know exactly what you mean. I’d actually thought about issuing a tell-all statement no-holds-barred style just to shut the Hendersons up once and for all, but no, I had to look out for you, Marshall.”

Glancing at Grandma Grant, Mr. Grant spoke reservedly. “You won’t be able to secure your position at the company with too much gossip about you going around. There’s even the possibility that you’ll be targeted by attackers. Do understand that my tolerating the Hendersons is done to keep you safe at work.”

Grandma Grant exhaled after some time. “You don’t have to speak in code around me. I, too, would like to see Marshall leading the company when it’s time. Lucas is a good kid, but he’s too gentle and easily manipulable. He will be a good second-hand to Marshall.”

Mr. Grant turned to Marshall. “I could tell how unhappy you were today, but still, let’s not act against the Hendersons just yet. We’re already at the center of online attacks. If the Hendersons turn against us and join the other side, that’ll put you in a bad position.”

Speaking of this, Grandma Grant grew angry at her son. “That wife of yours, I mean, honestly. I’ve told you again and again that you should rein her in, but to no avail. And now she’s caused so much trouble for us. You should know that Marshall is reaping what you sow.”

Leaning into the chair, Marshall cut in. “Alright. grandma, let’s eat and not worry about this whole mess for now.”

What he had for dinner was a steak and salad, which was his usual dinner combo. But today, he just couldn’t summon the appetite, even with knife and fork in hand.

Grandma Grant, finding steaks heavy, had asked the kitchen staff to make her a healthy risotto. Mr. Grant, in the meanwhile, also had a steak and salad for dinner, as he preferred their simple portions and nutritional values.

Marshall put down the cutlery after a while.
