Chasing After My Beloved Wife novel Chapter 9

In the Richard family Mansion.

When Yvon carried the drenched Joye back, everyone was home, including Shawn.

The corners of Shawn's mouth curved into a cold smile, but the tip of his eyebrows twitched a few times. His eyes fell on the hand on her waist and became colder.

Baird stood up using his cane when he saw his grandson returning all of a sudden. And he was even carrying an unconscious Joye in his arms. Baird asked with a surprised expression, "Yvon, why are you with Joye?"

"I took two days off. On the way back, I found Joye by the river. She must be in shock and emotional. I saved her from the river, but she fainted."

"Grandpa, did something happen?"

Yvon asked as he looked towards Shawn.

"It's all because of him! Butler, call the private doctor and ask him to come over quickly."

Baird took Joye's hand and turned to look at Shawn. Seeing that Shawn didn't move, he was so angry that he slammed his crutch.

"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and bring Joye back to her room."

"Dad, it's not all Shawn's fault. It was Joye who brought so many reporters to the hotel to make trouble and disgrace Shawn!"

Xaria Howard had always hated that Baird doted on Joye. Therefore, she had to stand up to protect her son. However, Baird reprimanded her instead.

"How dare you say that? If he was afraid of embarrassing himself, why would he keep on fooling around with women every day? What would you do if Maisie did the same?"

"Dad, aren't we talking about Shawn and Joye? What does that have to do with Maisie and me?"

Xaria nudged Maisie with her elbow. A smile immediately appeared on the man's gentle face. "Dad, I'll be sure to teach Shawn a lesson."

"Hmph! Could it bring back three innocent lives? If he hadn't deliberately vented his anger on the Leonard Group, nothing would’ve happened to the Leonard family. Now thanks to my 'perfect' grandson, I have no way to make it up to them now!"

Baird was so angry that he trembled when he mentioned the aviation accident that caused the death of the Leonard family.

He was the one who insisted Joye marry into the Richard family. Now, not only did she fail to get happiness, but she also lost her entire family.

It was his fault.

"Dad, don't be angry. Butler, bring the medicine!"

His family was in a mess, but Shawn couldn't be bothered. He took Joye from Yvon's arms and carried her to the bedroom on the second floor.

As his fingers slipped across her pale face, his movements became gentler, and even his heart softened.

"Aren't you the proud Miss Leonard? How could you think of jumping into the river? Hmm?"

Seeing that her eyes were still closed, he suppressed the thought of killing her. His fingers curled up awkwardly as he stared at her with a complex gaze.

"I just wanted to punish you. I didn't mean to hurt your family."

But he couldn't back time. Neither could he undo the damage caused.

After Shawn left, Joye opened her eyes slowly, and her tears fell on the pillow.

She knew that he was not really trying to harm her family, but he had caused the tragedy to happen.

Due to the long soak in the river and her overwhelming sadness, Joye developed a high fever.

Fortunately, the two private doctors that Mr. Richard found very skilled. After a bag of IV drip, her temperature gradually returned to normal.

"Mr. Baird, Madam Joye's fever has subsided. She should be alright now. However, she's not in a stable frame of mind. You’ll need to watch her emotions properly when she wakes up."

The media had already reported on the tragedy of the Leonard family. If it were anyone else, they would not be able to bear such a blow.

"Okay, thank you. Butler, send a car to send the doctors back."

"Yes, sir."

After sending the doctors away, there were no outsiders at home. Baird's face suddenly became serious, and the air became stagnant.

"Since everyone is here today, I have two things to announce."
