Come back to Me, My Ex-Wife novel Chapter 37

"Mr. Barrett, I don't know what you're talking about. I still have my business to attend to."

Margery's eyes were cold. She didn't want to waste time on Golden. She walked past him and went to the nurse station.

Knowing that Margery booked a VIP luxurious ward, the head nurse was very enthusiastic, "Ms. Byrne, don't worry. I will immediately ask a nurse to take care of your child."

"Thanks."

Margery felt that behind her, someone was staring at her back, which made her feel oppressive.

She was very clear who was staring at her.

But she did not want to look back at him, and just walked straight on.

Behind Margery, Golden narrowed his eyes slightly, staring at her graceful figure in the thin blouse, deep in thought.

After a long time, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.

Golden took a few steps closer to the bed, and looked into the big limpid eyes of the little boy in the bed.

Seeing that it was Golden who came in, the little guy, with a cold, bruised face, looked rather disinterested.

Looking at the cool little boy in front of him, Golden's stern face softened, "I'm Layne's father. I have something to ask you."

Ethan pursed his pink lips, and kept silent. His little hands clenched together under the bed.

When he woke up, Mommy was gone, and this bully who made Mommy cry for days and years came in and said he had something to ask him.

'Well, go ahead!'

He wouldn't tell the bully a word of the truth anyway.

Golden narrowed his eyes. "Is Melvin your father?" he asked.

Ethan didn't answer, just nodded coolly.

"Then why is your surname Byrne but not Collins?"

"My father said he once had a best friend whose surname was Byrne, but she died a tragic death, and he missed her so much that he found Mummy who had the same name as his best friend and gave birth to me and my sister, so our surname name is Byrne."

Golden could see no sign of a lie in Ethan's pretty eyes.

He narrowed his long eyes, didn't believe it, but had to believe it.

A four-or five-year-old child, the same age as Layne, was naive, and would not lie.

He was hoping that Margery had come back from the dead.

Golden closed his eyes to calm himself down. Just as he turned to leave, the door was open. Melvin, with big two black circles, rushed in. He was shocked to see Golden here and wanted to call his names. But out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Ethan who looked sullen and call him, 'Dad'. And then, Melvin immediately went over and poked at the little guy's bruised cheeks. "Dear, you just hit some boy. How could you make yourself so ugly for a trifle? Does it hurt? Come, let me check it!"

He was partying in the bar last night and didn't even know his phone was power off, so he missed Margery's call for help.

When he wanted to buy breakfast this morning, he found that the power had run out and it automatically shut off.

When he borrowed a charger and turned on the phone, he received a voice message from Margery, and rushed to the hospital.

He didn't expect that Golden was in the hospital too. Golden must try to get something from Ethan.

How wicked the man was!

Luckily, Ethan was so smart that he called Melvin "Daddy" to remind him of his identity.

Melvin wouldn't let it go until he discouraged Golden!

"Baby, come, call me again."

Melvin grinned wildly, and felt pleased to see Golden's face was cold. He was now as cool as having an ice cream in the hot summer days.

Ethan was speechless.

He turned his face away and said nothing.

He put up with Uncle Melvin every time he hangs around.

Luckily, Melvin was not really his dad. And he just needed to act for a while.

Melvin did the whole act and accompanied Ethan through the father-son drama. Then he stood up and walked over to Golden with the stern face. He raised his eyebrows and mocked, "Golden, why are you here instead of staying with your beloved woman and your son?"

Hearing that, Ethan clenched his fists under the cover, and his face became colder.

Golden dropped his cigarette butt into the garbage bin, raised his eyes and looked at Melvin, who was challenging him. He smiled lightly and said, "Ethan disappeared yesterday afternoon. As his father, where were you?"

Oh, gosh!

Melvin, stunned by the question, coughed furiously and growled angrily, "Where was I? It's none of your business. Golden, mind your own business. Don't poke your nose into others' affairs. Margery died miserably, and do you think I'll thank you for helping me get Ethan back? I'll never get over what you did to Margery! I will never forgive what you have done, nor would Margery!"

"Damn, what are you looking at me for? I'm talking about Margery now, not the innocent woman of five years ago. She's dead. She's dead."

Melvin glared at Golden, frowning. He was sick of seeing him here.

When Margery was with him, he didn't cherish her, and when he lost her, he felt regretful.

He deserved it!

What Melvin said was harsh, but reasonable, which upset Golden.

After a long pause, Golden turned round and left.

When Golden left, Melvin rushed to lock the door and then rushed back to Ethan. "Ethan, you did a great job. Tell Uncle Melvin, what did you do to get the class to beat Layne?"

Ethan didn't want to tell him when he looked at Melvin's cheeky smile.

"You don't want to tell me? Well, I will come up with the ultimate killer."

Melvin quickly took his cell phone out of his trouser pocket and flipped to the photo album. He found out a picture of Ethan of a few months old and naked and said, "See? If you don't tell me, I will send these photos to the network, let all the people see you naked. Gee, you were so fat and lovely, just like a beautiful little girl."

"I'll let you know if you delete the picture," Ethan frowned.

"No, you tell me first! I have competed with you many times over the years, but I have never beaten you."

Melvin was very helpless, and felt sad for himself.

In the end, Ethan said unwillingly, "The condition is that the girls can hold my hand and the boys can talk to Bonnie."

In kindergarten, with him around, none of the boys could get close to Bonnie, except Layne.

When he didn't agree, Bonnie would burst into tears, crying her heart out.

He was the older brother, and he didn't want to hurt her any more than he wanted to hurt Mommy, so he agreed.

But Bonnie didn't spend much time with him in kindergarten because she was with Layne, which was one of the reasons he wanted to beat Layne up.

"Shit, Ethan. You're amazing. You are more promising than me." Melvin laughed his head off.

With such a clever mind, he was worthy of being the son of Golden.

No wonder when he fooled Golden, he could be so calm.

"Ethan, what did you say to Golden? Tell me the truth, or I'll send out your naked pictures."

Ethan glared at him coldly, but couldn't help it because he wasn't convenient to walk, so he told him what he had said to Golden.

What Ethan said sent Melvin into fits of laughter. Suddenly, someone opened the door and went in.
