Darling, Don't Get Rid of Me novel Chapter 81

"Harriet?"

Wesley lightly tapped her cheeks, but there was no response. He grabbed a towel, wrapped her up and carried her out. He put her in the car and drove to the hospital.

Harriet didn't know how long she passed out for, her head felt heavy and her whole body ached. She woke up feeling as if she was beaten up in her sleep and it put her in a really bad mood.

"Harriet!"

The moment she opened her eyes, she heard Molly sobbing tears of joy by her side. She only then realized that she was in a wide hospital gown, lying in a hospital room.

"How do you feel? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? I'll go get the doctor." sentences came tumbling from Molly, it seemed like she was worried for a while now.

Harriet pressed her finger against her temple and asked, "What happened to me?"

"The doctor said that you fainted from a hot bath and almost died from a lack of oxygen," Molly answered fearfully. "Nobody knows what could have happened if it wasn’t for Mr. Smith!"

After hearing what her little assistant said, Harriet vaguely remembered what happened before she passed out, but she didn’t feel grateful at all for Wesley’s help.

After all, it was his fault that she got so unlucky.

The doctor came around for a check-up and told Harriot that she wasn’t in a life-threatening situation. Though her blood pressure was a bit low, the doctor told her to rest well and to pay more attention to her health, then he proceeded to leave the room.

The worried look on Molly’s face finally subsided, "That’s great news, it’s good that nothing bad happened. Harriet, you yourself are to be blamed too. What were you thinking, taking a bath for such a long time? Luckily Mr. Smith was…"

She suddenly stopped in the middle of her sentence, as she realized to her dismay that something was weird about this situation. How did Mr. Smith rescue Harriet who was taking a bath? It couldn’t be that he casually passed by and witnessed the incident.

"Harriet, you... What’s your relationship with Mr. Smith?" Molly asked astonishedly.

She had been suspicious of their relationship since before, but she couldn’t tell what was weird about it. At first, she thought that maybe she was just thinking too much, but with this incident, something was definitely going on between the two!

Harriet was taken aback by Molly’s question and didn’t know how to answer her.

At this moment, Jack’s solemn voice echoed by the door, "Miss Clark is awake."

He stepped aside as he spoke and gave way to the man next to him to enter the door, he then placed a bunch of health tonics on the table and left without another word.

"Hello, Mr. Smith." Molly felt nervous seeing Wesley, "Now then… You rest well, Harriet. I’ll go get you some food and will be back again later."

As the ward’s door closed, the smile on Harriet’s face began to fade. She gazed coldly at the man who was looking down at her from a height.

"Mr. Smith, you are occupied with myriad affairs every day. I am so flattered that you took the time to come visit me. But I am very tired now, I wish that you would leave."

Wesley squinted his eyes and said, "Is this how you treat someone who saved your life?"

Harriet snickered, "Saved my life? If it wasn’t for you, Mr. Smith, I won’t even have the chance to stay in a hospital."

She thought about the few times she was admitted to a hospital due to injuries, and it was all Wesley’s fault. But did he ever feel remorseful? His attitude towards her never changed even after everything that happened.

"Wesley, I really want to ask you this. Would you torture me like this if I am Louisa?"

Torture… Yes, every moment they spent together was just torment.

The hint of pity in Wesley’s eyes disappeared as she said that sentence, "She is she and you are you. There is nothing to compare and you don't have the right to."

Harriet laughed charmingly, though her laughter seemed a bit brittle and sad, "Who says that I don’t have the right to compare? In any case, I was also your bed partner before, and you enjoyed every moment of it too. How could you forget about it already?"

The woman’s smile wasn’t all that radiant, but it was unpleasantly bright to Wesley.

"Harriet, watch your attitude and watch what you are saying. "

Harriet was still laughing, "What’s wrong with my attitude? Was it not humble enough? Could it be that you cannot bear our conversation, just because we are having it while you are standing and I am sitting down? Wesley, if all you want is my body, then don’t do pointless stuff, you should’ve just left me fainted in the bathroom!"

The warmth she felt was always just an illusion, time and time again she got thrown back into reality. She had enough of this rollercoaster ride.

Harriet felt faint as she was too emotional, she closed her eyes and rubbed her temple.

Wesley looked at her as she put up a front, he then said coldly, "You should have known that from the day you provoked me, you’ll have to live by my words even if you were to die."

Harriet opened her eyes and peered at him unbelievably, "Based on what, Wesley?"

Why should he be the one making her life decisions? Why did she have to yield to him?

Wesley replied without hesitating, "Because you are mine."

Harriet suddenly felt very weak, she was in total despair at this very moment. She would never be able to free herself from his monstrous grip for the rest of her life. But it wasn't fair, she had lost a part of herself and yet Wesley didn't seem to have the slightest change of heart towards her.

"Harriet, you're so useless," Harriet mumbled to herself.

The room quieted down as the woman stayed silent. Nevertheless, the awkward atmosphere didn't bother Wesley, he asked, "What do you want to eat?"

It was as if the argument just now didn't occur.

Harriet had no energy to argue anymore, she was always in a disadvantage anyways. She gave in and replied, "Something delicious."

Just when Wesley was about to say something, his phone rang. He took the call and didn't seem to care about Harriet's presence amidst his phone call. It was obvious that it was about work, and he would've to leave soon.

"I'll make Jack prepare something later. Just focus on resting for now." Even when Wesley asked for help from his subordinate, it sounded more like a demand rather than a request.

Harriet quietly lied down, she looked listless and it somehow irritated him.

Shortly before he left, he told Harriet, "Stay by my side obediently and you can have anything you want."

Harriet's face didn't change even though she was just promised something that every woman would be overjoyed about. Instead, she replied unenthusiastically, " Really? Then does Mr. Smith knows what I want the most?"

This made Wesley frown.

Wealth, power and fame. Everybody wanted them, there was no way that Harriet wouldn’t want them as well. He could give her all of them if he was willing to.

"Never mind." Harriet was the only one being melodramatic. She crooked her mouth and said, "I'll be in your care in the future, Mr. Smith. Please go attend to your work. Sorry that I am unable to see you off."

Molly came back with some takeaway shortly after the man left. Harriet didn't have time to harbour any silly thoughts.

"Harriet, look, these are all your favourite dishes." Molly opened the container thoughtfully and also made her a cup of oatmeal. "Rest well after eating, you should be fine after that."

Harriet felt warm inside, "Thank you, Molly."

Normally, it should be people from your family that would come and care for you, if you got admitted to the hospital. But it was the opposite for Harriet, she absolutely didn't want Colin to find out. It would be too troublesome to explain and he would also be too suspicious of the matter.

"It's fine, you don't have to be so courteous with me." Molly smiled, but she looked like she had a lot of things to say.

Harriet had known that what happened today meant that she couldn't keep the secret from her assistant anymore, and hiding it would make it seemed like she didn't have faith in Molly. So she said frankly, "What do you want to know, feel free to ask."

Molly thought about it for a while and said, "Harriet, I could tell that Mr. Smith cares for you and understands your situation very well. Otherwise, he wouldn't have told me to come over and purposely told me to not tell your family about it. I just want to know, what kind of relationship are you guys in? Are you guys friends?"
