Darling, Don't Get Rid of Me novel Chapter 91

Wesley imposed his will on Harriet and moved into her apartment, she didn't even have a chance to refuse.

Harriet was going to be on leave for the next few days and she decided to act all high maintenance. She intended to exhaust Wesley's patience, hoping that he couldn't tolerate her behaviour anymore and moved out of her place on his own.

Thus, when Wesley returned from work the next day around noon, he found out that the woman was still lazing in bed.

"Harriet?"

He thought that she wasn't feeling well, he went up and pulled the corner of the blanket. Harriet sat up lazily, she rubbed her eyes as she just woke up from a deep slumber, she said, "What's the time now? I'm so hungry."

Harriet used to wake up very early back then when they lived together in the mansion, she would prepare Wesley some breakfast and clean the house. The house was always clean and homely, but not this time around

It wasn't Harriet that forced him to move in with her, whoever who loved to serve the other could freely do so. But she didn't want to be his butler.

"You still can tell that you're hungry?" Wesley chuckled, it seemed that he didn't mind at all that she woke up so late. "Come, let's go eat.

Harriet replied immediately, "I'm not going to cook. Eat out if you want to eat."

Wesley gleamed at her briefly, "Of course, it will be too late if I have to wait for you to cook."

It was odd, but Harriet felt a sense of affection in his tone of voice. Did she sleep for too long and was having hallucinations?

Jack came over without any notice when she went to freshen herself up. He brought over an exquisite lace evening dress, and it was clear that he prepared it for her.

"Are you bringing me to an event?" Harriet asked suspiciously.

Wesley faintly muttered yes.

Harriet prepared a thousand excuses in her head for sleeping in but it all went to waste. She was also prepared to be scolded by the man, but it seemed like she didn't have to worry about anything today.

She changed into the dress and got into the man's car, she looked like she had something to say.

Seeing she was absent-minded, Wesley said bluntly, "Speak your mind."

Harriet thought about it for a while, she then said solemnly, "Wesley, although we are living together again, I'm not planning to be like how I used to be. It won't be only for today. From now on, I will not take initiative to prepare our meals nor organize your personal belongings. I have my things to do."

To summarize, she won't be his little babysitter anymore.

Wesley was sitting with his eyes closed, he said without even moving his eyelids, "I've never told you to do anything like that, even back then."

Harriet was speechless.

If she could, she really wanted to comment on his attitude. He was totally taking her for granted.

At the venue, Rose Villa, people were all well-dressed and people moved around elegantly.

Harriet realized that it wasn't a private event only after she entered the venue. To her bewilderment, it was a semi-public event and there were also familiar faces of people in the media.

Back in the days, Wesley would only bring her along to private events to prevent rumours and other unwanted people finding out about their relationship. She was very surprised and was wondering why he brought her to a semi-public event this time.

She doubtfully turned her head towards the man and asked him, "Are you sure that you brought along the right companion?"

Wesley glanced at her, "Who do you wish me to bring along?"

"Louisa." Harriet answered without any hesitation, "Well I mean, she is your fiance. It will be a huge show of affection if you were to bring her along. It will also shut down the rumours about you guys not getting along very well from the incidents before."

Wesley looked discontent with her answer.

Why did she wish for him and Louisa to make peace?

Harriet realized that the man's mood turned sour, she wittily tried to change the topic, "Who organized this event?"

A lady with a soothing voice greeted them as Harriet finished her sentence. "You're here, Wesley."

Harriet glimpsed over, there was Lisa, in a black mermaid dress. Lisa had a slender posture and was smiling charmingly at them.

The woman was overflowing with charm and elegance as she was not in her normal working clothes, her lips were scarlet red and her lashes were long. Harriet had seen many beautiful women in the showbiz, but Lisa was even more stunning when compared to them, she was as beautiful as a goddess.

"This is my first time organizing an event in the country, I hope it will go well. Please do let me know if it feels any different than in New Zealand." She smiled like a flower, she was as beautiful as a rose. She was also very casual when talking to a person of the opposite gender.

Wesley skimmed over the event venue, lowered his eyebrow and said to her, "You should ask for a professional opinion."

Lisa chuckled, "Well, I thought about it in the beginning, but it might raise suspicion if it was overly formal."

Wesley replied forthrightly, "It doesn't really matter in the end. You'll still be in the spotlight the moment you return to the country."

Lisa leaned her head towards one side and said playfully, "Though, nobody will dare to pull a stunt on me as long as you are here, Mr. Smith.

The two of them were totally enjoying their conversation, it seemed like they forgot that another person was standing right next to them.

Harriet's mood turned sour. She realized that every time this woman appeared, Wesley would completely forget about her existence. It was like this ever since they first met each other.

She thought about it for a bit and decided to shut off her negative emotions. She forcefully joined the conversation and said, "Hello, Lisa, it's nice seeing you here."

Only then Lisa looked her way and she seemed surprised to see her there, "Oh, what a coincidence, Miss Clark. Fancy meeting you here."

...This woman was definitely doing this on purpose. Harriet was holding Wesley's arm as Lisa walked towards them, it was plain in sight that Harriet was his female companion.

"Wesley was the one who brought me along." Harriet smiled politely with her flushed cheeks, she was certainly not as beautiful as Lisa, but she had her charms and was exquisite and elegant. She then added, "We're here to have some food, though unfortunately, the dishes here weren't really to our taste."

She replied indirectly, her tone filled with disgust. Since Lisa was pretending not to see her, she might as well put on an attitude and acted like she was only incidentally there to satisfy her hunger. At least by saying that, it would seem like Wesley didn't really care about this event at all.

There was a hint of displeasure in Lisa's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and smiled brightly, "Oh dear, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault for not organizing the event well enough. How about this, Miss Clark, come with me upstairs, I'll get my people to prepare any food you would like to have."

The upstairs areas were only for the VIPs, it was specially prepared for important guests to take breaks. Harriet looked at Wesley and he didn't seem to be against the idea, so she sauntered upstairs, sat down and was about to eat. She only then realized that Lisa had a ploy in mind, Lisa had asked Wesley for a dance when Harriet was unaware.

The music started gradually and the scent of champagne was spread the ballroom. Wesley and Lisa were the centre of attention, all eyes were on them and the guests applauded enthusiastically as they finished their dance.

They looked like a fine couple.

Harriet raised the corner of her mouth and had a self-deprecating smile, she took her time eating the dessert that was served. All of a sudden, Wesley looked up and their eyes met, luckily Harriet managed to hide her dejectedness and smiled back at him leisurely.

Wesley frowned seeing her reaction, he was ready to walk up the stairs.

"Wesley, there's a few bottles of good alcohol here waiting to be opened, should we try it together with Mr. Brooks?" Lisa called out to him, "Also, there are still a few overseas projects that require your attention, would you look over the plans and make the final decision?"

Wesley hesitated for a very brief moment, he then decided to go with Lisa and they walked together towards the other side of the hall.

Most of the business moguls and tycoons were awaiting after Mr. Smith's arrival, they talked to him one after another. Wesley was, of course, used to a situation like this, he handled it with ease but suddenly he thought of Harriet. He wondered if she was bored sitting upstairs alone.

It was an odd moment for him. He unconsciously thought about that woman's feelings.

Needless to say, Harriet was extremely unhappy. With a fork she picked up the dessert and shoved it in her mouth angrily, taking out her frustrations.
