Flash Marriage: Slow Down Mister novel Chapter 295

"Okay," Clara nodded and answered distractedly. She was still thinking about the baby.

Seeing Clara say nothing with her head lowered to eat the soup, Horace felt a bit awkward. Eventually, he decided to break the silence, "Clara, where did you go? Why did you come home so later?"

"Nowhere. I was in the hospital with my mom." Clara didn't want to tell him anything about her and Laura, because he might think she was trying to speak ill of Laura again.

"How is she?"

"Good."

Nodding his head, Horace didn't know what to say. He had never been a talkative person, and the room fell into silence again,

After finishing eating the soup, Clara plucked up her courage and looked at Horace. "Horace, I need to talk to you about something."

"What is it?" Horace was a bit curious when he saw the serious look on Clara's face.

Taking a deep breath, Clara spoke, "I'll keep the baby. If you really want me to abort it, we can get a divorce."

Hearing her words, Horace couldn't help but feel angry again and his tone became stern. "C, can't you just listen to me on this? We really can't have the baby!"

"Why not?" Clara was angry as well, "I have told you this morning that I didn't get raped! This is our baby. Do you want to kill it?"

Seeing her insist that she wasn't raped, Horace didn't know how to help her take the reality.

If he could, he hoped that she never remembered it. She wouldn't get hurt if she was just unaware of it.

They couldn't keep the baby. However, if Clara couldn't remember what had happened, she would insist on having the baby.

Thinking of this, Horace made up his mind and said, "But the doctor has done an examination for you and it showed that…"

"I don't care what the doctor said!" Clara interrupted him excitedly, "I'll keep the baby! If you have a problem with it, let's divorce!"

After the quarrel this morning, Clara had realized that her attempts to explain everything to Horace wouldn't work, he would never believe in her.

Deep inside, he had believed that the baby wasn't theirs. In that case, she had to stick up for the baby to keep it safe.

"C, listen to me…" Horace tried to persuade her again when Clara cut in twice.

"You don't have to say anything. I have decided. If you disagree, we'll get a divorce and I'll raise the child up on my own."

Meeting the determination in her eyes, Horace fell into silence.

"Okay. You can keep the baby," after a long silence, Horace finally agreed.

"Really?" Clara held his hand and asked in disbelief.

She had never thought that Horace would agree to this, with the assumption that the baby's father wasn't him. She had been mentally prepared for his agreement to divorce her.

Nodding his head with a sullen look, Horace said nothing more. What he had said just now had taken all his courage, he never wanted to repeat those words again in his life.

Before he said those words, he had never thought that he would compromise to such a big deal for anyone. But what could he do? Should he disagree and divorce Clara?

Simply by hearing the word "divorce" from Clara was unbearable for him. When he imagined life without Clara, he found that he was scared.

He was scared he might never see her again. She would leave him and become a stranger to him. He was scared that even if she was right in front of him, he would have no reason to get close to her… Therefore, he had to agree.

Never mind. Horace thought. Even if the child's father wasn't him, it was Clara's child. He would love the child with all his heart and pretend that nothing had ever happened.

He loved Clara, so he would do his utmost to take the child in.

Seeing him nod and agree, Clara was moved and hugged him. "Thank you, Horace. Thank you…"

All her resentment and disappointment for him was gone at this moment. She had never known Horace could do this for her.

He loved her. Clara, again, confirmed the idea that she had had a lot of doubts about. He really loved her, or otherwise, how could he do this for her?

With tears in her eyes, Clara said with gratitude, "Horace, believe me. This is our baby and you will believe it someday. You won't regret this."

Clara swore in her heart that she would find evidence to prove that Laura framed her and that she was lying. By then, Horace would believe it her and their baby.

Moreover, even if she couldn't find any evidence to prove that she didn't get raped, when the child was born and grew a bit older, she could ask Horace to do a paternity test. By then, he would have no more doubts.

Hearing her words, Horace felt bitter. It didn't matter anymore whether this was their baby, he had promised Clara that he would take it in, he would. Although he couldn't guarantee he could see the child as his own, he would try his best to be a good father to it.

Holding Clara tightly in his arms, he whispered in her ear, "Babe, please don't mention divorce to me again."

Hearing his slightly trembling voice, Clara felt sorry. Was he scared by her words just now? Was he so scared to leave her?

"I promise." Clara nodded in his arms, her tears falling on his shirt. She felt so happy right now and she hadn't felt it in a long time.

"Horace, I…" Clara struggled slightly out of his arms and wanted to tell him what she had learned today, but she stopped when she saw the bitter look on his face.

"What is it?" Horace asked.

"Nothing." Clara hugged him again after shaking her head.
