Have I Told You Lately novel Chapter 146

“Don’t worry. I raised you to a big girl. I know how to take care of a child. You should leave now, and take care of yourself.”

“……well, then I’m leaving, goodbye.”

In the elevator, Rachel pressed the button to the basement as usual. But she realized something and paused for a moment, reaching her finger to pressed the button to the first floor.

The elevator stopped at the first floor. Instead of going to the parking lot, she walked out of the apartment directly, with a bag in hand, and there was no expression on her delicate face.

As she walked out of the neighborhood, she raised her hand to check the time. She was about to stop a taxi when a black car suddenly stopped before her.

Rachel frowned and ignored it. As she stepped back, the door opened and a familiar face appeared.

“Ms Lewis.”

Rachel was shocked. She looked up at the tall man in front of her and the expression on her face changed immediately, “Maurice? You, why are you……”

What the man said in the phone last night immediately came across her mind. She calmed herself down and asked in a low voice, “He sent you here?

Maurice nodded deferentially, “Yes. Mr Shawn asked me to drive you to work.”

Rachel spurned his offer and replied, “No need. I can take a taxi. You can go back now.”

She thought he had understood what she said last night, but she found it was useless.

For the sake of the child, she would not drive to work anymore. She could get up earlier to take a taxi or a bus. She was not a princess that needed a chauffeur to pick up her.

Maurice got in her way, with a tall and straight figure standing still in front of her. He replied quietly, “Ms Lewis, Mr Shawn is my boss, and this is my job. I can’t do what you tell me. If you don’t like it, you can tell Mr Shawn to let me leave.”

“You!” Rachel was too angry to speak.

With clenched fists, Rachel didn’t want to waste time here, so she took out her phone and made a call.

The phone was connected in no more than twenty seconds.

“Hello, this is Charlie Davis, the secretary. Mr Shawn is in a meeting now. You can leave a message to me or call back later.”

“……”

He was in a meeting?

Holding phone near her ear, Rachel didn’t get a chance to talk. Her pretty face turned dark as Charlie Davis finished it at a stretch.

“No, thank you.” she took a deep breath and was about to hang up.

“Wait a minute, are you Ms Lewis?” Charlie Davis asked in another tone. He seemed to have recognized her voice.

Rachel answered quietly, “Yes, I am. If he’s not available now, I’ll hang up.”

But the next second, a deep and familiar male voice was heard in the phone, “You want me?”

There was a subtle change on Rachel’s face and her heart somehow jolted.

Wasn’t he ……in a meeting?

But she was in a hurry to go to work and she didn’t get much time to think about it. She answered coldly, “Kenneth Shawn, ask Maurice to leave. I don’t need a personal driver. Did you not understand what I said last night?”

The man at the other end of the phone asked in a deeper voice, “You drive today?”

Rachel bit her lips, “No.”

“Well, then you have to take a taxi or a bus. Don’t you ever have the idea of taking an awful crowded bus. And taking Maurice’s car is obviously a better choice than taking a taxi. You can also pay him.”

“……”

Rachel’s face turned terribly gloomy, and what made her feel worse was that she got no words to refute.

With a deep breath, she can’t bear it, “Kenneth, could you stop being so annoying? I’m in a hurry to get to work and I have no time for chatting.”

The man remained calm and patient, “There are also a bunch of people waiting for me. My dear, you just take yourself as a passenger and you can ignore his existence.”

“……”

Rachel took a look at Maurice.

Ignore his existence?

She was not blind!
