After a few hours, they arrived at the General's residence.

The whole of their journey back to the residence, the maid didn't stop crying while embracing Xue Li. Ever since she started serving Xue Li, she was treated by her as a sister. Most of the time, whatever Xue Li gets, she made sure to give her some too. She even made sure to prepare her dowry the moment she will get married. The childhood maid of Sheri knows all of this. This is how generous Xue Li was towards her.

Long Wei got down from the horse and slowly carried Xue Li on his arms. Since young, he saw how she grew up. For him, she's like a sister to him. He trained her on how to use a sword and became her own personal guard. He blamed himself for not being on time to protect and preventing her from losing her life. Lying on his arms, she looks like she's sleeping peacefully but it was from the truth. He wanted to shout and cry and in spite of his injury, he didn't care. He holds Xue Li firmly.

The maid knocked heavily on the gate and the gateman was out for a bitter surprise.

Long Wei slowly strode towards the pavilion where the family usually use for a tea room. During those hours, the Furen and the wife of their sons were having tea.

The Furen spotted a distance and noticed an injured Long Wei carrying Xue Li with blood all over them. She can't help but tremble dropping her cup and froze. The General heard of what happened and rushed toward the pavilion where he saw Xue Li carried by her guard. All eyes were on the two but no one took a move.

They woke up from their shocked stupor when Long Wei groans and dropped on his knee but still firmly holding Xue Li. The General ran and immediately took Xue Li on his embrace. Like a mad man he wailed. While his wife can't stop trembling in disbelief of how her daughter looks like. She couldn't believe that her daughter was gone. She was now lying still without breath. She was so sure that she just talked with her yesterday.

"Xue Li, It can't be!" The wife of Xue Li's brother came forward and cried.

The General's household cried and mourned that day. Even the weather sympathized with them as heavy rain suddenly poured out.

When the Crown Prince arrived, the General ordered that he will not be allowed in no matter what. He kept on kneeling at the gate for so long and never budged even neglecting the princess as she came.

The news of Xue Li's death was spread so fast. The passers-by saw it all and cried. They all mourned with the General lost and the crown prince who is kneeling under the rain.

After a day of mourning, the General ordered the Crown Prince to enter. As the Prince entered, he appeared to be wounded and exhausted.

"Everything's over now. My daughter is gone and you should live happily with your wife since that is what my daughter wished. The moment she was born, I never wanted her to enter the palace. Alas, fate played jokes on my family. I and my family have shown our loyalty to your family I think that is enough. Now, one of my children offer her life to prove that we have remained loyal, I have no reason left to continue lending you my loyalty. I have no reason to continue giving my service to this country. From this day on forward, we will step down and leave this country." The General said without looking at the Crown Prince.

The prince was silent the whole time.

"Can I see her one last time?" The Prince requested.

The General sighs and led him to where Xue Li was lying.

When Xue Li's mother saw the Prince entering the room, she got mad.

"You! What are you doing here?! Get out. Get out!" The Furen was shouting in anger.

The General signals his son's wife to first get her wife out.

Du Wen's steps were heavy as she goes forward to where Xue Li was lying still. His tears started to fall. He stood in front of her in silence. He bent and kissed her on her cold lips.

"I will make sure I will pay with my life for what I did to you"

He cut a portion of her hair and braided it on his own. He got his dagger and pricked her cold finger. With her blood on the dagger, he proceeds to prick his own as their blood combined.

Everyone witnessed the actions he did in shock. That was a tradition for the next life. It will let him be the one to suffer and let him be together with her in the next lifetime.

The General shook his head and sighed. He brought out the hairpin and bracelet that Xue Li gave her maid to give back to her parents.

"This is my last gift to you, Your Highness. I advise you to go now before my sons arrive. It's already enough that my daughter died."

Du Wen wiped his tears and received the hairpin and bracelet the General gave. He then kowtowed three times and walked out.

Two days later, the brothers of Xue Li arrived looking exhausted and in despair. They continued to cry and mourn for the precious daughter, sister and friend of the household.

The Emperor was devastated. He blamed himself for not trusting the General and his motives. In the end, everyone regretted but the General and his family have already left the capital. They all resigned from their post and no one knew where they went.

Sheri witnessed everything that left her crying with pity for Xue Li. She also had the chance to watch the Crown Prince. She saw him when he kneeled at the gate full of tears and remorse. No one saw it because of the rain but she can.

"What love can do. You are great Xue Li" Sheri said while sobbing.

Later, she was transported to a different place. The palace. It was the palace of the Crown Prince. The Crown Princess was shouting at her maid and throwing everything she can grasp on the floor.

"Get out!" She orders the maid.

"She's already dead, and yet he keeps on calling her name" She was shouting making everyone scramble and go away.

Sheri's eyebrow lifted. She was then transported to another location. It was a dark place. She saw Du Wen talking to someone.

"This is her belongings. I want you to melt it together with this" He was talking to an old woman.

"Your Highness, you know the danger of what you're asking. Once it will happen, you cannot take it back. There's no turning back." The old woman warned.

"Yes, I am aware." The Prince answered and offered his dagger and his hair lock which was braided with the hair of Xue Li. As he was about to turn around, the woman asked

"Did you love her?"

Du Wen stopped.

"Yes, with all my heart". Then he walked away.

Sheri was shocked. "Hold up, wait!"
