The next day, Shi Nuan went to pick up George at the airport after spending half a day at work. As Fu Chengyan was busy with something else, Shi Nuan made Yuan Jia go with her instead. After helping George settle down, she was about to head back to the office with Yuan Jia when Fu Chengyan’s call came in again. “I need you to pick someone else up at the airport!”

“The airport? Like, right now?” Shi Nuan was confused. “But I’ve just sent George to his place. Who else is coming back?”

Shi Nuan nodded. “Yeah! I was supposed to come to pick up Mr. George, but then Yan found out that Pei Huan’s flight was also arriving at this time so I figured I’d pick her up, too. How…”

“How did I know?” Li Heng chuckled, his voice sounding a little cold.

That tone… He’s definitely angry! I bet he would’ve hit me if I were a guy! Shi Nuan swallowed nervously. “Uh… Li Heng, Yan is just… I mean, I’m going to take Pei Huan straight to Aunt Ning, so…”

“You don’t have to explain. “I know you still have feelings for Pei Huan, and you’ve already been waiting three years for her return. Why not just wait a little longer now?” Shi Nuan suggested.

She could tell that Li Heng was deeply in love with Pei Huan, as he wouldn’t have waited three years for her otherwise.

Li Heng kept quiet, so Shi Nuan decided to follow suit. The two of them then stood by the waiting area in silence. Feeling awkward, Shi Nuan whipped out her phone and sent Fu Chengyan a crying emoji with the text: Li Heng knows!

Fu Chengyan’s reply came in a few seconds later: I see. Shi Nuan figured he was probably busy and texted back: Don’t worry, we’re both waiting at the airport right now.

Li Heng lowered his gaze and asked, “Are you reporting to Chengyan?”

Shi Nuan felt like he had caught her in the act and forced an awkward smile as she said, “I didn’t mean anything else by this!”

“Right.”

Pei Huan’s flight finally landed after what felt like forever.

Pei Huan switched on her phone and saw that she had a few missed calls and text messages. Dragging her suitcase behind her, Pei Huan narrowed her eyes and pointed at the boy next to her. “Mommy is going to give Daddy a call now. You be a good boy and stay where you are, okay?”

The boy then sat on top of her suitcase and propped his head with his hands. “Where are we going, Mommy?”

“We’ll find a place to stay, and then we’ll go see Grandpa and the others.” Pei Huan smiled and gently pinched Bao on the face. The call got through shortly after. “Hello, Beiting. You looking for me?”

“Where have you been, Pei Huan?” Beiting sounded worried.

“I just got off the plane in Jiang City.” Pei Huan said while looking at Bao. “What? Who gave you permission to go back there?” Beiting shouted.

“My mother is sick, Beiting. I’m sorry, but I have to stay here for a while. I’ll come back with Bao when she gets better!” Pei Huan hung up the call and hesitated for a bit before taking Bao’s hand. “Come on, let’s go home!”

Pei Huan felt a sharp glare the moment she reached the arrivals hall with Bao. Her eyes went wide with shock when she looked up and saw Li Heng in front of her. However, disappointment soon filled her heart when she saw Shi Nuan standing beside him, and she tightened her grip on Bao’s hand.

“Mommy, you’re hurting me!” Bao’s voice snapped Pei Huan out of her trance and she quickly took a look at his hand. “Where does it hurt? Mommy’s sorry! Here, let me give it a blow to lessen the pain!”

Li Heng found himself frozen in place when he saw Pei Huan and the little boy next to her. “Huan!”

Pei Huan quickly picked Bao up and was about to make a run for it, but Li Heng was faster and stopped her from leaving. “Where do you think you’re going?”

“Let go of me, Li Heng!”

Pei Huan saw the cold look in his eyes and squeezed hard at his wrist. “I said, let go!”

“Li Heng!” Shi Nuan didn’t expect things to turn out like this. She was especially surprised by the fact that Pei Huan now had an adorable son. “I mean… We’re here to pick up Pei Huan, aren’t we?”

Li Heng came back to his senses and loosened his grip on her. “Y-Yeah… We’re here to pick her up…”
