Ice and Fire novel Chapter 104

Derek nodded, and in a serious tone, said, "I don't know why she left Jackson, and even if she's back, Jackson doesn't seem to want to take her home. And he..."

Derek didn't continue, but Selina clearly knew what kind of person Jackson was; both of them knew Jackson very well.

Selina was stunned and she sat on the floor, and thought of the first time that she had met Cherry.

She thought that she was very beautiful, but she didn't envy her because of that, and instead appreciated her for her amiable character. After she had spent some time with her, she had failed to find any weakness in Cherry, and considered her a competent and model person. What she hadn't expected was that Cherry would be the person that Jackson was deeply concerned about.

Derek then helped Selina stand up from the ground, and whispered in her ear, "Remember not to tell anyone in the military residential compound about this, especially not Grandpa Andrew. Jackson told me that he would take care of it by himself, but if Andrew ever finds out about this, we know how he will react."

Selina seemed to still be rational, and nodded in agreement.

Suddenly, Selina thought of something. She gripped Derek's arm, and asked, "What about Sally if Cherry is back?"

Derek also got nervous after he heard Selina. He had never thought about Sally up until this moment, but it was true that she was a problem. He remembered what Jackson looked like, and he could tell that he was still worried about Sally.

In the afternoon, Selina returned to the JS Group. She sat in her office and thought of what Derek had told her earlier in the morning. She worried about Jackson, and even more about Cherry. She could tell that Jackson had changed a lot during the past five years. Jackson still acted calm as ever, even if Cherry had returned to the city, but Selina had a vague feeling that Jackson would soon do a terrible thing.

Selina didn't dare to entertain that thought, and instead wondered why had Cherry abandoned him in the first place. Jackson's hatred for Cherry had already reached a visceral level.

She then called her secretary using the intercom, and ordered, "Ask Cherry from the business department to come to my office."

"Yes, Miss Selina."

Ten minutes later, Cherry knocked on the door and walked into Selina's office.

As she saw Cherry come in, Selina took a careful look at the woman standing in front of her, and had to admit that she was indeed very charming and captivating. She had some kind of a special charm, and there was no wonder why Jackson had married her in the first place. She was much more beautiful than Sally was, in both appearance, and temperament.

"Miss Selina, were you looking for me?" asked Cherry, standing reverently in front of Selina's desk.

It was not until then that Selina came back to the present moment. She said, "Yes, Cherry, but I asked for you here not to discuss business affairs."

"No?" replied Cherry, in a surprised tone. Was she to discuss private affairs? But how could Selina have something to do with her private affairs?

She nodded, stood up from her chair, and pulled Cherry's arm and gestured her to sit on the sofa.

Cherry was taken aback when she found herself so close to Selina. She had always thought that the boss was someone placed in a high position, and not easy to be touched by the ordinary staff. She hadn't expected to be so close to her boss, and besides, Selina had taken the initiative in the first place, and Cherry felt extremely flattered by that.

Selina looked into Cherry's eyes, and with a smile on her face, said, "Maybe I should call you sister-in-law."

'What on earth is going on?' thought Cherry. Bewildered, she echoed her words, "Sister-in-law?"

Selina nodded, and said, "Yes. Derek is my brother, and so is Jackson.

Cherry was obviously shocked after she heard Selina's words. She couldn't help but show the confusion on her face, and as she looked at Selina, she vaguely remembered that Derek had once told her that he had a sister, but she had forgotten her name.

She remembered that his sister was abroad, and asked, "You were abroad, weren't you?" She now had no doubt that Selina was Derek's sister, because she also resembled Derek. In addition, she had also ran into Derek earlier in the morning, and wondered of he had been there for Selina.

Selina answered, "I came back five years ago, but at that time you had already left Jackson."

"So you've known everything all along?" asked Cherry. She was astonished, and she knew that Derek knew everything about her leaving Jackson. Had Derek told everything to Selina as well?

Selina nodded, and said, "Yes, I have. We all live in the military residential compounds, so I knew everything beforehand."

When she mentioned of the military residential compound, Cherry couldn't help but think of her Grandpa Andrew, the gracious old man. He had been so good to her, but she, on the other hand, had been cruel with her absence. She didn't know whether he hated her or not. She thought that since Jackson hated her so much, perhaps Andrew did as well.

"Grandpa, how is grandpa?" asked Cherry. She felt her heart turn bitter when she asked about him.

Selina was a little surprised by her question. 'Cherry still cares about grandpa?' she wondered. From the look in her eyes, it was clear that she indeed cared about Andrew.

Selina shook her head, and said, "Not very good. He's not as healthy as he was before, and because Jackson is very busy nowadays, and he's usually not at home, the butler is the only one that stays beside him at all times."

When she heard this, Cherry's eyes glistened with tears, and she immediately wiped them off with her hand.

"You're still worried about the Chu family, aren't you? You didn't really want to leave, did you?" asked Selina. Although she had asked in a speculative tone, she was quite sure in her heart that her guess was indeed right.

Cherry hastily hid her true feelings, and said, "No, I've already left that home for five years. I've abandoned it long ago."

"Then why did you come back?" asked Selina.

"I came back for my brother. He wanted to come back and all my family wanted to come back here, " said Cherry stoutly. She indeed had come back because of Wilson, and her mother and uncle had also intended to come back. She didn't want to be left alone abroad, so she had come back with her family.

Selina didn't doubt Cherry's words, because her reasons were very adequate. She had to do it for her family's sake.

"You didn't really want to leave Jackson five years ago, did you? You must have had difficulties, didn't you?" asked Selina. She couldn't believe that Cherry had indeed wanted to leave Jackson.

Cherry then took a deep breath, and as she looked into Selina's eyes, she said, "Our marriage was nothing but a piece of paper. I didn't want to be confined by that piece of paper, so I fled."

Selina hastily shook her head, and said, "But Jackson loves you, Cherry! He really does..."

After she heard Selina's words, Cherry suddenly laughed, and said, "That can't be true."

Cherry then helplessly put on a reluctant?smile. How could she ever deserve such a luxurious thing as love?

"Does he really love me?" suddenly asked Cherry. She didn't ask Selina, but instead asked herself, her own heart.
