Ice and Fire novel Chapter 240

Cherry got in the car but didn't start the engine right away, and instead reflected on what had happened to her in the parking lot. Although she had no idea of the driver's identity, she was sure that he had targeted at her life.

Cherry then suddenly thought of Joe, and was afraid that he might also get hurt.

She drove to Joe's school to check on him and to be sure that he was safe.

She stopped the car outside the school's gate. Although school wasn't over yet and all the students were in their classes, she still felt worried that her son might be in danger.

Cherry thought for a moment and then went to the porter to explain to him that she wanted to see her son. The porter was friendly, and he was more than glad to call Joe's class teacher.

A few minutes later, Joe's teacher came out with him.

Cherry felt relieved when she saw that her son was safe and sound.

Joe walked to his mom and held her hands. He said, "Mommy, why're you here?"

"I was worried about you, so I came here to check on you, " answered Cherry, smiling at her cute little boy. She relished to see her son happy and carefree.

Cherry then turned her gaze from Joe to his class teacher who was standing nearby, the same one that she had met last time.

The teacher gave Cherry a broad smile, and said, "Mrs. Cherry, are you here to take Joe home?"

Cherry put on a serious look on her face, and answered, "Yes, I have to take Joe away now. Can I ask for a leave for Joe?"

"That's alright, you can take your son now, everything is fine with me, " quickly said the teacher. She knew that Joe was Jackson's son, and that she had to treat him and Cherry respectfully. She knew that if she ever dared to provoke them she might get herself into greater trouble.

Cherry was surprised to see that the teacher permitted her son to leave immediately. She said, "Thank you, madam!"

"No problem, goodbye!" politely said the teacher.

The smile on her face quickly disappeared after she saw Cherry's car pull away from the school's gates. The porter then came to her, and as he looked at the fading car, he said, "As far as I'm concerned, she looks to be too young to be a mother."

"She's the most revered woman in the city!" said the class teacher, with genuine admiration in her voice. Although Cherry wasn't as beautiful as a goddess, she had a special character, and she was also greatly admired because she was Jackson's wife, a status which made her unique.

"The most revered woman?" The porter was a bit confused. He knew that most of the students of the school were coming from noble families, but he had never heard that one of their parents was the most revered woman in the city.

"She's Jackson Chu's wife, " answered the teacher.

Inside the car, Joe noticed that his mother looked different. She should have been at work during that time of the day, and Joe wondered why had she come to school to pick him up so early.

"Mommy, why didn't you tell me that you were going to be home early today?" asked Joe.

Driving her car, Cherry answered him, "I finished all of my work for today, and since I had nothing else to do, I decided to drop by at your school."

Joe could tell from his Mommy's voice that she was worried about him.

"Mommy, are you worried about my safety?" asked Joe straightforwardly.

Cherry was taken aback, because she was always surprised whenever Joe was smart enough to know what she was thinking of.

Cherry replied by nodding, and then answered him, "Well, I was afraid that you might somehow get hurt."

"I'm a good boy at school, don't worry, I'm fine, " said Joe. He had noticed that Cherry's ominous feelings had kept adding up after he had told her about his encounter with that woman in the elevator, so he kept an eye out for the things that happened around him. However, nothing unusual had happened yet, and also no other suspicious person had appeared.

"Well, Joe, I might have had too much on my mind. I just couldn't stop thinking of you, that's all, " said Cherry. She had to keep hidden from Joe what had happened to her in the parking lot.

"Mommy, you're just being paranoid. Haven't you already known that I'm a genius and that nobody can never overdo me in any way?" said Joe elatedly while looking at his mom. He continued to say, "Please don't worry about me, I can take good care of myself!"

"You're such a good boy, " said Cherry, with a big smile on her face. She felt lucky to have a son like Joe.

Joe smiled when he saw his mother's joyful expression on her face. Something then occurred to him, and said, "Mommy, are we going to Great-Grandpa's house tomorrow?"

His words reminded Cherry that tomorrow was Saturday, and that a whole week had passed in which she had been extremely busy. "Yes. You can play with the other children again at the military's residential compound tomorrow."

"Mommy, can I get a present for Great-Grandpa? I also want to buy something for my friends there, " said Joe in a childish and pleading tone.

Cherry turned her eyes from Joe back on the road, and with a big smile on her face, she answered him, "Of course! We can actually go right now to a store and buy some gifts before we get back home!"

"Yeah!" cried Joe, excited by the great news he heard. "Mommy, I love you!"

Cherry parked the car outside a store, and then they went inside and bought many gifts in various bags.

Back inside the car, Joe looked at all the shopping bags and seemed satisfied. "Mommy, do you think that my friends will like what we bought for them?"

"Yes, I'm sure they'll love them! You haven't seen them for a long time already, and I'm sure they also miss you, " said Cherry smiling, while driving the car back to the house.

"Alright! Every time I come back to the military's residential compound, I will buy something for them! I'm so happy when I play with them!" said Joe cheerfully.

Cherry felt very satisfied when she saw Joe's bright smile. She knew in her heart that she could now provide her son a complete family and a wonderful childhood.

Cherry arrived at the villa, got out of the car with her son, and then carried the shopping bags inside the house.

When he saw that his Daddy was watching TV, Joe went to him and said, "Daddy, help me with this bag!"

When Jackson saw that his son was carrying so many things, he quickly stood up from the couch, took the bags from his hands and put them on the table. Looking at Cherry, he saw that she was also carrying some bags in her hands.

Jackson felt awful that Cherry had to carry all those bags by herself and hastily went to her to relieve her of that burden.

"Where have you been? On a shopping spree, huh?" asked Jackson.

"I bought them for Joe's Great-Grandpa and his little friends back at the military's residential compound, " said Cherry after she fell on the couch.

Seeing that Cherry was tired, Jackson poured a glass of water for her.

"Here, drink some water, " said Jackson.

Cherry took the glass from his hand and drank some of it. She then put the glass on the table, and as she looked at her son, she said, "Joe, pick the gifts for your Great-Grandpa first; you can give the rest of them to your friends tomorrow."

"Okay, " said Joe while he nodded, and then started to sort out the gifts from the shopping bags.

Jackson turned his gaze from Joe to Cherry, and said, "Why didn't you call me? I would have come to the store to help you with all those bags."

"I didn't know you were back. Anyway, Joe was really helpful with those bags, " answered Cherry.

Jackson passionately held Cherry in his arms, and said, "Next time, please don't wear yourself out like this. Just call me, I can also always send Bill if I'm away, remember?"

"Alright, " said Cherry and silently nodded.
