Ice and Fire novel Chapter 309

Andrew nodded his head. He looked ahead and got lost in thought.

"Jackson, sometimes we have to do what's necessary. I also don't like the way we treated him, " said Andrew, sighing.

"Grandpa, I know that, " answered Jackson. He actually understood his Grandpa, and although he had been young at that time, he had somehow gotten some sense of judgement. He knew that his Grandpa had given some money to Mond Xu, and he couldn't judge him for that. He would have done exactly the same thing if he had been in that position, and although many options had been available, that was the best of them. After all, he had never thought that Mond Xu would ever come back to this city and cause more trouble.

Andrew looked Jackson in the eyes and asked seriously, "Jackson, if I did something wrong, would you blame me if you found out about them?"

Jackson immediately shook his head, and answered, "Never! You're my family, and I would never blame you for anything in my whole life!"

Andrew stared at Jackson with approval and spoke no more. 'Jackson, I don't care if you blame me, as long as you're reasonable enough to deal with it. I was selfish, and I had to hurt your beloved ones to protect you, ' thought Andrew to himself, regretfully and sadly.

Jackson also remained silent when he saw that his Grandpa had gone lost in thought.

It was eerily quiet and depressive in the study. All of a sudden, Andrew laughed heartily and patted Jackson on the shoulder. He said, "Jackson, with you around here, I won't worry about a thing. I believe that you can deal with it!"

"Yeah, " said Jackson, while nodding his head. "Grandpa, please take good care of yourself. Cherry and I have been extremely busy recently, and that's why we didn't spend too much time with you, something for which we're really sorry. But, if you ever need anything, just call us."

"Alright, " replied Andrew. He tried to refrain himself from weeping, because he knew that his health condition was deteriorating. He had to endure unbearable pains every night, but Jackson and his family were always the comforting elements that eased all of his sufferings.

The Butler, standing outside the door, heard movements inside the study. He remained quiet while he passed the door, and then went downstairs.

Jackson walked down the steps and saw that the Butler was busy sorting out Andrew's newspapers. He went to him, and said, "I'm going out now. If the sun's shining this afternoon, take my Grandpa out for a walk."

"As you wish. Jackson, don't worry, " replied the Butler, with a broad smile on his face.

"Alright." Jackson nodded his consent, even though he didn't believe a word of what the Butler said. He then left.

Cherry then went to her office in the JS Group's building, as usual.

Selina, who was standing outside the office door, saw that Cherry was carefully working hard. She was satisfied with Cherry's commitment and smiled. After she knocked on the door, she pushed it open and went inside.

Selina cheerfully greeted her, "Good morning, Cherry!"

"Selina, you..." said Cherry, surprised by Selina's unexpected appearance in her office. She was, after all, the president, and if she needed Cherry, then she could have just called her and asked her to come to her office.

"What's wrong? Why're you so surprised?" asked Selina, while sitting opposite to Cherry.

"No, I'm not surprised, " answered Cherry hastily. "It's just that I have never seen you inside my office. What's up? Is it about work?"

"No, you guessed it wrong this time. I haven't gotten too much work to do today, so I came here to visit you, " answered Selina, smiling.

Cherry also felt wonderful when she saw that Selina was apparently in a good mood. "Haha, why are you so happy today? Do you have anything wonderful to share with me?" asked Cherry.

Her words brought an instant warm flush to Selina's face. She hurriedly lowered her head, and answered nervously, "No, I don't. Don't embarrass me, sis!"

Cherry started to wonder what Selina was talking about. Why would Selina feel so happy and embarrassed at the same time?

It then suddenly occurred to Cherry that it might be because of Wilson.

Cherry looked in Selina's eyes with surprise, and curiously asked her, "Have you met with my brother recently?"

Selina knew that Cherry was smart, and that she had already figured out what she was thinking of. She smiled at her and remained silent.

To satisfy her curiosity, Cherry stood up from her chair and went to Selina's side. She anxiously asked, "Tell me, have you kissed already?"

"Don't be so ridiculous! He just dropped me at my house last night. That's all, " said Selina sweetly while glowing with happiness.

"Nothing else?" Cherry was confused and somehow disappointed. She had a clear understanding of Wilson's character, and she was sure that Wilson had done more than just drop her at home, now that he had been taking good care of her all the time.

The suspicious glances from Cherry made Selina realize that Cherry didn't buy her story. In the end, she decided to tell Cherry everything.

"We left the party, had some food, and went home, " said Selina.

Cherry pretended to be serious. She nodded, and said, "That's great! Believe me, things will work out for you!"

Selina seemed to be shy with Cherry's candor. "Sis, I need to know Wilson better. Can you tell me something about him?" asked Selina earnestly.

Cherry felt funny that Selina would ask her this way. She cheerfully answered her, "Alright, when we're free, we can talk about my brother over a tea."

"Yeah, thank you, Cherry, " said Selina, nodding.

Cherry was pleased with Selina's naivete and innocence. She seemed to be like a doll who had grown up with extreme protection and care from her family. She had always been so lovely and simple, and if she and Wilson could be together, then she surely would feel happy and satisfied about their relationship. Cherry knew Wilson so good that she could clearly see that he had been impressed by Selina. Cherry wished they had a good marriage and a brilliant life together.

Cherry had a small chat with Selina, but then Selina got a call from one of the other departments. She was needed and had to go, so she left Cherry's office.

After she walked Selina out, Cherry sat again at her desk. She checked the time on her wristwatch, and she saw that it was 9:55 a.m..

Cherry thought of Mond Xu. He had said to her at the party to call him at ten the next morning if she wanted him to tell her something about Jackson.

Cherry fumbled around her desk drawer for Mond Xu's business card. She then picked up her phone and dialled his phone number.

Mond Xu was looking out of the window when his phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown phone number, but he knew that it had to be Cherry, because it was ten o'clock in the morning, the exact time that he had told Cherry to call him.

Mond Xu smiled wryly, and thought to himself, 'Cherry, you've always been so punctual, haven't you?'

Mond answered indifferently, "Hello, this's Mond Xu."

"Good morning, Mr. Xu. This's Cherry, " said Cherry in a low voice, sitting at her office desk.

"You're on time, " said Mond.

Cherry couldn't tell whether Mond Xu was being sarcastic or polite. She thought for a moment, and then said over the phone, "You said that you have something to tell me about Jackson. I..."

But Cherry was suddenly interrupted by Mond.

"Come to the Yaju Community, D Building, Floor 32; I'll be waiting for you, " he said.

"What? What are you talking about?" Cherry was completely confused.

"Come to the place I told you in an hour, " ordered Mond Xu authoritatively.

"What's that place? Why do I have to come there?" asked Cherry, both warily and furiously.

"It's my home, " said Mond, and then immediately hung up before Cherry had the chance to say something more.

Cherry then dropped her phone on the table, worried about what Mond Xu had told her to do. Did he ask her to come to his home alone? But she rarely knew him. How could he do this to her?

While Cherry was debating with herself whether she should go or not, the phone rang again, but this time with a text message. Cherry checked it and saw that it was from Mond Xu.

"Come to my house in an hour. Otherwise, you will never know Jackson's secrets. Nobody except me will tell you about them."

This message made Cherry sickly nervous. Mond Xu had provided her with a chance to know the truth, but on an unknown road. Should she take it nor not?

Eventually, Cherry made up her mind, and kept telling herself that Jackson was more important than anything else. Although she loved him deeply, she had always had some questions about him. Now, finally a man had come out and was willing to answer her questions. How could she give up such a wonderful opportunity?

Cherry then quickly finished her work, grabbed her bag, and walked out of the office.
