Love My Friends with Benefits novel Chapter 55

Even after the nurse left, May was still angry.

"Queena, that b*tch is bullying you because you're too good-tempered!"

"Me, good-tempered?" I wanted to laugh.

Everyone in the industry knew that I was an iron lady. I handled things rather forcefully, and I was quick to fly into a rage. The only person who'd describe me as "good-tempered" had to be May, who was worse than me in terms of her temper.

May stomped her foot. "This isn't something to laugh about!"

I quickly put on a straight face and waved a hand at her mysteriously.

She leaned over. I whispered, "I've got a good idea to get back at them..."

"Really?" May was dubious.

I nodded and gave her a brief explanation of my plan.

In fact, it wasn't the best plan. I'd just said so to appease May.

It took me a long time to persuade May to finally settle down and give up on getting revenge on Phoebe.

Seeing that it was late, May rented a bed and spent the night with me. The next morning, she volunteered to get me breakfast.

After all, there was no variety to hospital food, and it tasted bad.

May got some buns and pastry. I lost my appetite after a few bites and pushed the food aside.

"Queena, you need to eat more," May mumbled as she ate a bun. "You need the strength to go up against that b*tch's daughter."

It looked like she'd really taken what I'd said the night before to heart.

I waved a hand. "Let's leave it for another day. I don't have the energy for that today."

...

"Oh." May looked a little disappointed. She shrugged and took a large swig of coffee.

Right at that moment, the nurse on the morning shift came in to give me an injection.

I watched her as she worked and suddenly remembered the hospital bill.

When the nurse was done, she turned to leave. I hurriedly asked, "Can I know how much of the deposit is left?"

If I really were to run out of money, I didn't mind switching to a normal ward or even being discharged.

The nurse gave it some thought and asked, "Has anyone asked you to pay anything?"

I shook my head and answered honestly, "No."

She smiled. "If so, that means that you still have enough. There's no need to worry."

"Yeah, don't worry."

May polished off her bun and patted me on the shoulder. "Anyway, you still have me, don't you?"

Even if I had her to help, I was still the one actually spending the money.

Of course, I wasn't shameless enough to say something like that in front of May. I just mumbled something perfunctorily.

After breakfast, May went to work. Before she left, she even reminded me not to worry about money.

After that, I was left alone in the ward.

I lay on the bed, feeling a little bored.

Leonard had brought me here the night before. My phone and everything else that I usually had on me was still at home.

...

I let out a long sigh and turned onto my side.

I had to remind May to bring me my phone the next time she came.

I was lost in thought and didn't notice the door being pushed open.

I was startled out of my reverie when I suddenly felt a cool breeze against my back.

"Who..."

I turned back and fell silent when I saw who was at the door.

Leonard stood there with Phoebe behind him.

A crack appeared in my calm expression.

Why had he brought Phoebe here? To gloat?

Phoebe didn't look too pleased to see me either. However, she was a better actress than me and forced out a smile. "Good morning, Queena."

She disgusted me.

I couldn't help saying mockingly, "What's so good about it? I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you."

I thought that Leonard would've stood up for her. However, he just frowned.

Phoebe blinked and quickly teared up.

This was the complete opposite of the arrogant, savage woman from the day before.

She was choked up as she said, "Queena, I didn't do it on purpose. Please, don't be like this. Please?"

"No," I rolled my eyes and said harshly.

...

Seeing that she wasn't getting through to me, Phoebe turned to Leonard. "Leonard, can you help talk some sense into her?"

I curled my lip and snorted.

I'd already made up my mind. Even if Leonard were to put his pride aside and beg me, I wouldn't back down.

Unexpectedly, he shook his head and turned Phoebe down. "This is your own fault, and you have to own up to your mistakes, Phoebe. You need to earn the forgiveness of the person that you've wronged."

I had not expected this to happen and felt a little lost for words.

I had to say that Leonard had surprised me.

Phoebe sniffled timidly. "But... what if she refuses to forgive me?"

Leonard's answer was simple. "Then you'll need to keep on apologising until she does."

...

Phoebe spluttered.

Leonard repeated, "Go apologise."

Phoebe covered her mouth and cried pitifully.

After a long moment, she choked out piteously, "Queena, please forgive me. Please..."

I crossed my arms over my chest and watched her silently.

She had always known how to get others to pity her. If I were a man, I'd probably have melted at her expression.

I said blandly, "Phoebe, do you know what you did wrong?"

She merely wept and covered her face with both of her hands.

Through the gap between her fingers, I got a clear glimpse of the ferocious look in her eyes. It was the exact one that she'd had when she shoved me to the floor.

Leonard took out a neatly folded handkerchief from his pocket and passed it to her.

She took it from him and wept even more pitifully.

This made me feel uncomfortable.

I couldn't suppress my anger and sneered, "Do you think that I have to forgive you just because you've apologised? Why should I? Who do you think you are? Do you think you're always in the right?"

My tone was forceful and harsh.

Leonard warned me, "Queena, watch yourself."

I unleashed my anger on him. "Stop acting so lovey-dovey in front of me!"

His expression turned into one of anger and his voice turned cold. "Don't cross the line, Queena!"

I looked at him with my chin held high.

Phoebe put her hands down and stepped between me and Leonard.

He asked coldly, "What are you doing?"

She sniffled and tugged on his sleeve. "This is all my fault. I was just so mad because Queena said that my mother was a mistress and that she should go to h*ll. I really didn't mean to..."
