Loveless Marriage novel Chapter 123

"I didn't drink that much." Minh's voice was as light and calm as usual.c

Looking at the traffic ahead, Isabella slowed down and asked: "Are you local?"

Not until she asked this did she realise she knew little about him.

Minh's eyes that were almost hidden in darkness flashed with an extremely thin ray of light. Then he calmly replied, "No, I come from Liverpool, which isn't very far from here. After graduation, I'll directly come here for a job."

"Oh, so your parents are in Liverpool as well?"

There was a sudden silence in the car.

Isabella subconsciously looked at him, but in the darkness she couldn't see him clearly, "What's wrong?"

"I have no father, only my mother." He suddenly smiled at her.

Facing that smile, Isabella suddenly trembled and inexplicably felt a chill on her spine.

After she steadied herself, she quickly apologised, "I'm sorry, um, I didn't know that…"

As if Minh didn't notice her abnormality, he turned his gaze to the front and said blandly, "It's okay. I grow up in a single-parent family, and have never seen my father before. But I'm used to it."

Isabella'd never thought such a sunny and lively boy grew up in such kind of environment. But it didn't seem weird either, as everyone had their own way of life. Even she had a lot of skeletons in her closet

Not knowing how to comfort people, she could just smile lightly and say: "You've been so hard-working, and you'll have a better life in the future. You still your mom, right?"

"My mother passed away, too."

"…"

"Ah!"

Isabella was so shocked that she lost control of her hand. The car suddenly crashed into a fence to the side. Fortunately, she reacted in time and quickly turned the steering wheel. She immediately slammed the brake.

Within just a few seconds, her face had already turned deathly pale, and her breathing hastened. She then turned to look at Minh beside her, "I'm so sorry. I lose my control. Are you alright?"

Minh's expression didn't change at all. Staring at her quietly for a few seconds he chuckled: "I'm fine. It’s all my fault. I scared you."

Isabella was still lightly gasping for breath, her five fingers tightly gripped the steering wheel, and her palm was drenched in perspiration. She was also frightened, not knowing by his voice or what he had said.

"Miss Jones, how about I drive?" Looking at her, Minh said.

"No, no need. You drank." Isabella still hadn't recovered from her stupor. Shaking her head, she continued driving.

However, she was very careful this time and dared not to divert her attention.

"Actually my mother just passed away half a year ago," Minh said in a low voice.

Isabella was startled. The abnormality at the bottom of her heart surged once again. She felt an indescribable panic and fear, but she couldn't interrupt him. Perhaps he'd just drunk too much and wanted to chat with her.

Frowning, she cautiously asked, "Were you still in school at that time?"

The death of his mother, who was the only one accompanying him for 20 years, was indeed a hard blow to take. Moreover, he was at such a young age, so he must be very sad.

"Yeah, I was preparing for my graduation just then."

Isabella felt a slight heartache as she tried to organise her words and comfort him. Suddenly, she heard him asked in a cold and calm voice, "Miss Jones, do you know how she died?"

"She …" Even though Isabella'd been looking ahead the whole time, she could still feel his intense gaze. She began to panic again, and even her expression started to stiffen. "What happened to your mom?"

Vehicles kept coming in from the front. Their bright lights shone on their faces through the windshield.

One's face was slightly pale, whole the other's was cold and weird.

However, Isabella didn't turn her head nor did she see anything. She could only clearly hear Minh's voice beside her ear.

"She killed herself."

Isabella's heart trembled, feeling as if she'd fallen into an ice cellar.

She felt that the atmosphere inside the car was so stifling that she was even unable to breathe. She wanted to comfort him, but she didn't know what to say. In an instant, she asked him as if she heard nothing just now, "Is this the intersection you said?”

Minh lightly withdrew his gaze and said. "No. The next one."

"Okay, we'll be there soon."

She forced a smile and speeded up without a sound.

In less than a few minutes, the car stopped at an intersection. Minh unbuckled his seat belt and got off.

Seeing that, Isabella suddenly grabbed onto Minh's shoulder and said in a low but serious voice, "Don't think too much about it. The setbacks and difficulties are just temporary. As long as you work hard, you will eventually get what you want … And she can also rest in peace. "

Minh's body froze for a moment, then smiled gently to her, "Don't worry, Miss Jones. I'll get what I want...so do you. Don't think too much about what I've just said. Go home early."

"...Alright, I'll leave now. Have some hot water before sleep. Otherwise, your head will ache tomorrow morning."

After that, Isabella stepped on the gas pedal and drove forward.

After some distance, she pulled the car to the side of the road again. She closed her eyes, held her chest and gasped softly.

She didn't understand what the hell was going on?

Hearing about Minh's sorrow, the first thing she should do was to comfort him, but why was she so anxious that she even wanted to escape? When she knew that his mother committed suicide, she even dared not to ask one more question…Moreover, Minh just now really made her feel strange.

She rubbed the space between her eyebrows, with her mind in confusion.

She didn't know if it was because she was once strangled by someone days ago, or that she'd been very tired recently, she was always in a trance these days.

At this time, in the dark silent car, the phone beside her suddenly lit up, followed by the rapid vibration sound.

Caught off guard, Isabella's heart almost jumped out of her chest. She raised her head with a pale and fearful expression, just to see it was her phone, then she awkwardly pulled her hair back to her ears and pressed the answer bottom.
