Mr George, Don't Be So Arrogant novel Chapter 71

Riley took off her gloves and the nurse put on a new pair.

In the operating room next door, the patient’s heartbeat was dropping sharply, seemingly as if it would soon stop completely.

“What’s going on?”

Riley entered inside and Robert glanced at Moriah and cursed mercilessly, “You are doing an operation with just such skill? Saving life is not a game! Get out of here!”

Moriah gritted her teeth and said, “It’s not my fault that the patient’s heart is bleeding, it is your bad skill and yet you blame me!”

“Get out of here!” Robert was furious; if he wasn’t currently operating on someone then he would be shoving her out right now.

Riley stepped in for Moriah and said calmly, “Dr. Smith, let’s try to remain calm, can we begin now?”

“Yes, let’s draw some blood!”

Whoosh!

Her nimble technique really amazed Robert.

“You…” Dr. Smith wanted to ask who she was but Riley then said directly, “Mr. Smith, we’re still not at the point we need to be at, please continue on.”

“Got it.”

Only by comparison would you notice that Dr. Smith’s speed was only half that of William’s, but he was called the best doctor in their department, so it seemed that in the future he could to be replaced.

“Preparing to… invert the left atrium.”

After Riley inverted the left atrium with ease, it was then easy for him to handle the next step.

This time Dr. Smith was even more surprised, he wondered just how many times she had done this now?

With Riley here partaking in the operation, the rest of the operation went very successfully. Dr. Smith smiled and said, “Well I will leave the rest for you, is that alright?”

“Of course it’s fine.”

“Thank you Dr. Watson.”

Dr. Smith then walked out of the operating room and when he saw William sitting outside who had clearly just been operating for a very long time, he gave a heartfelt smile and said, “I had no idea that there would be such an exceptional talent hidden within the internal medicine department. Mr. Hardesty, would it be alright for her to join my team and become my deputy?”

William smiled and said, “I’m very sorry but I’m afraid she has already been claimed by another.”

The cooperation between them was exceptional, so as long as Riley was willing then if she wanted she could immediately transfer to the surgical department.

Robert then frowned and said, “As for that Moriah, I really just cannot understand how she was awarded the title of professor! Well, I think from now on it would be better to stay away from those who pretend to be better than they actually are.”

William thought deeply after hearing this, at the time of the selection Ms. Pouchain strongly supported Moriah to be chosen, so how was it possible she could be this bad?

Riley was sewing on the stiches onto the patient with ease, she had continued to made every achievement all these years and has never faltered, she simply was a born surgeon!

The anaesthesiologist and instrumentalist next to her were both dumbfounded.

After the two operations performed ended successfully, her body was aching slightly, her face was both pale and soaked with sweat for she hadn’t taken a break for twelve hours now…

When she finally came out of operating room 5 it was already 10:30pm. With two operations in succession and a lack of sleep from the night before, she truly looked exhausted.

Once she took off her mask, you could see she had lost all colour from her face.

“How are you doing?”

William couldn’t help but support her arm with his hand which shocked Riley slightly who took a step back, “I’m fine, why is it that you are still here?’

“I’m waiting for a member of my team.”

Riley looked back and saw a couple of doctors steering the patient out of the room, “They’re inside?”

William shook his head, “She’s already come out, it’s just she doesn’t know this yet.”

Riley was silent for a while until she said, “Are you talking about me? You are mistaken Mr. Hardesty, I am a member of the internal medicine department.”

“There is no distinction between the internal medicine and surgery department. You are very skilled and I think your talents are better suited towards doing surgery. I won’t force you to do anything but I hope that you will consider it carefully and become my deputy. Perhaps you would like to do surgeries yourself one day, and if so I would be happy to help and support you.”

To learn together with him was a once in a life time opportunity, but…

“No thank you, I don’t think I will ever pick up a scalpel again in the future, but thank you very much for your kindness.”

Riley then dragged her exhausted body away however William decided to follow behind her, “You clearly have very unique talents, so why is it that you are declining this offer?”

It was clear that he genuinely meant what he was saying and appreciated her talents which moved her very much.

“Is it because of him? Your…husband?” William said the last word rather distressed.

Riley made no reaction to this, “My life does not revolve around my husband you know.”

When she got to the office there was no one else inside. Riley rubbed her forehead and sat down on the chair staring blankly at her hand. Her right hand was trembling slightly, but fortunately when she was stitching back up the patient she was able to pull herself together and finish the task with no hitch.

The sweat on her face just now was due to the tingling pain she felt in her hands but she wouldn’t let him know this.

After taking a few moments for rest she picked up her phone and once she had turned it on her eyebrows immediately creased.

There were over twenty missed calls displayed on the screen and all of them were from Euan!

Her first reaction was disbelief; she then thought she was just imagining things. She even slapped her face a few times.

But it was true.

Apart from the calls she also had gotten a text message.

After three years with no text message from him, she finally had received one.

This was the first time he had called her more than twenty times in a row, along with his first ever text message!

It wrote, ‘When you get this message please give me a call back.”

When Riley saw the text message a pleasant feeling arose within her, and for a moment she narcissistically thought that Euan was showing concern for her.

Because she was operating for so long she was unable to be contacted, so was he just worried?

With this thought in mind, Riley was preparing to call him back but then she realized that it was almost 11pm at night and thought would she be waking him up?

Business trips were always exhausting.

However, Riley found that she couldn’t help thinking about him and decided to call him back.

After a long series of ringing sounds, she became more nervous, still no one was coming to answer the phone.

Was he really asleep? Riley felt a little disappointed and was about to hang up when the call suddenly went through. She was so excited that she shouted out his name “Euan…”

She didn’t even have time to finish saying his name when a sharp woman’s voice was heard that obviously didn’t belong to Euan.

“What is your problem? Why exactly are you calling so late?”

It was Lydia who had answered the phone, but how was it possible that she had his phone? When Euan went on business trips didn’t he stay at home? In addition it really was very late so why did she have his phone? Did this mean that the two of them were sleeping together this evening?

“Where is Euan? Could you give the phone to him?”

Riley tried her best to sound calm even though she was panicking inside.

She regretted not bringing her phone into the operating room and blamed herself for not being able to answer any of his many calls.

But she couldn’t let Lydia know what she was feeling.

Lydia sneered and said rather mischievously, she pretended to make a sound like she was turning her body on the bed and said, “Of course Euan is asleep at such a late hour, but if you have something you want to say to him then I would be happy to convey the message for you.”

Imitating Riley’s tone made her sarcasm obvious.

She waited quietly for Riley’s reaction, she was hoping that Riley would go crazy and lose all control so she could record the conversation and then listen to it together with Euan. Was there still much time until they would not be together anymore?

However Riley didn’t react this way at all, she had countless things she wanted to say but instead she held back, and because she was tired just answered, “Alright, then just let him continue sleeping.”

Once she had said this she hung up the phone.

After putting down the phone, Riley sneered at herself, so in the end it seemed that Euan wasn’t calling her because he was concerned for her? Otherwise why would he be sleeping with Lydia?

She then closed her eyes, she was exhausted both physically and mentally and her right hand was beginning to tingle again, and this time the pain was even more unbearable.

“Ah”

The piercing tingling sensation was coming from her hand. It seemed that overworking today had caused an old injury to flare up, and if this continued then her injury will only get worse.

Riley got up and ran outside.

In the YJ Villa, in the living room.

Taking the opportunity before Euan came; Lydia hurriedly deleted the call history and put his phone back into the same position.

In one of the villa’s halls at night, Euan was coming down from the study on the second floor. The grand crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling gave off the feeling that this was a hall from a medieval castle.

Therefore, as Euan walked down the stairs with his tall and lean figure, his exquisite looks were radiating, he looked both so humble and noble.

Lydia stood up and looked at Euan with clear adoration and infatuation, this man; she thought that no matter what she must hold onto him!

“Euan, are you finished with everything you had to do?”

Lydia smiled sweetly at him.

But Euan just responded with a lazy, “Yeah.”

Lydia rushed over to him put her two hands on his arms and said, “Since you are all done, let’s go get some rest. It’s already very late.”

Euan was about to go get some rest but seeing Lydia, he didn’t feel tired anymore and instead pushed her hands away and said, “Actually I still have something I need to do, how about you go get some rest.”

Lydia started to act coquettishly and used her soft hands to slowly stroke his chest, “Euan, I’ve been waiting specially for you, you’ve been away from home for so long now and you’ve finally come back. So please let me accompany you tonight, ok?”

Euan took away her hands, “You are pregnant, it’s best if you rest early and go to sleep.”

“Euan…”

“Go to sleep.”

Lydia didn’t dare insist again and instead obediently agreed, “Well, you should try get some rest too.”

Euan sat down on the sofa and picked up his phone having forgotten it was there. When he turned it on he saw there were no new messages.

He had tried contacting her countless times so it was impossible for her not to notice, and he had clearly stated that once she reads his message, was she doing this purposely because of her anger with him ? She should call him back.

Did something happen to her? Or was she still busy?

But no matter how busy someone was, you always had time to check your phone right?

He hadn’t heard from Riley in the past few days since he had returned home, could she not even send a message?

Even though he had sent her a text message, she still was unmoved by this?

Was the thought of divorce so strong that she wanted nothing more than for him to never come back?

Still holding the phone he began to pace up and down the living room until he ended up walking down the corridor towards the first room on the corner, which was her room.

Euan stretched out his hand, turned the door handle and realizing the door was unlocked, it opened with a click.
