Nobilis of War novel Chapter 1289

Darren and Murphy bided their time patiently while lurking in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to enter the castle.

"See those two guards over there? They are cultivators at the top level of the Star God Realm. We won't be able to get past them so easily," Darren said as he assessed the situation in his head.

"Yeah, I know. We can't confront them on our own." Murphy shook his head, disregarding the thought, and added, "There are many Defense Arrays scattered across the castle. Once we use our god's power, we will risk giving away our location."

"Then what do you suggest we do?" There was no way they could get inside with the guards constantly on the lookout.

"Wait. I'll use my physical strength to get rid of them," Murphy whispered. As long as they resorted to any other method other than their god's power, the Defense Arrays wouldn't be able to pick up on their presence. Even so, approaching the guards stealthily wasn't a walk in the park.

"I suppose it's worth a try. Hold on. How about we capture these two guards instead and force them to become my believers? That way, we can manipulate them into following our orders. What do you think?" Darren spoke, coming up with another strategy.

"That sounds even better! I totally forgot that you're a Defiant Master. Let's go with that then."

After going over their plan, they decided to remain hidden until they found the perfect opportunity to strike.

The next day, their wait ended, and the perfect chance to engage presented itself. They found the guards indulging themselves with a feast they prepared with some beast meat along with wine to keep their throats from going dry. Preoccupied with filling their stomachs, they finally let down their guards.

Not wanting to let this opportunity go to waste, Murphy rushed over in their direction to sneak up on them while they were still engrossed.

Before the guards could have a moment to react, he grabbed them by the throats and choked them just enough to suppress their ability to scream and alert the others. With the two men at the mercy of Murphy's chokehold, he dragged them all the way back till they were out of sight.

When Darren saw Murphy swoop the men up alone, he rushed over to his side and aided him with the capture, until they were a fair distance away from the castle.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't suppress my strength, and now one of them is dead," Murphy whispered apologetically.

"No, it's fine. One is more than enough," Darren reassured Murphy and then turned to face the guard. "You have two choices. Either swear on your life to serve and believe in the Conflicting Chief God. Or else, prepare yourself to reunite with your companion in the underworld."

Still traumatized by the sudden capture, the guard failed to muster up the courage to respond to Darren's call.

"What are you waiting for? Answer him!" Murphy cut the silence short with his curt tone.

"Y-yes! Yes, I swear!" Not wanting to bear the brunt of their growing impatience, the guard activated his soul power. But, it was not to dedicate himself to following Darren. It was so he could send a message back to the castle, alerting them of the infiltration.

"Humph!" Catching on to the guard's intentions, Murphy struck the guard on his back, carving a bloody hole into his skin. Overwhelmed with pain ringing through his body, the guard was forcefully interrupted before he could do anything.

"You must hate your life, right? You sneaky bastard, Go to hell!" Murphy raised his hand, readying himself to slap the guard to his death.
