Not Again Mr Whitney novel Chapter 8

Of course, Calvin wasn’t talking nonsense. When Vincent tossed to amulet to him so he could admire it, Calvin noticed that there was something wrong with the amulet.

Technically, it wasn’t jade, it was the bone of a child.

There was a type of black magic existing in Oakshire. It was conveyed by the bones of children, which carried the curse of a witcher.

This so-called jade amulet was made out of the bone of a child. Vincent didn’t dare to do harm to Mrs. Houston. He must be fooled and spent three hundred thousand on a deadly weapon.

Vincent did spend three hundred thousand so he was very confident that Calvin was lying.

“Calvin, I didn’t expect you to be so vicious. I did point it out that you gave grandma a filthy walnut but was I wrong? It was trashy indeed. And you hold a grudge and say that about my amulet? Too bad that it isn’t your call. Look at this.”

Vincent showed him the bill, which proved that the amulet did cost him three hundred thousand.

All the relatives nodded, “Yes, it is worth three hundred thousand. Vincent wasn’t lying.”

“All you ever do is being jealous and petty. Are you a real man?”

Vincent’s wife Betty was furious, “Vincent shouldn’t tease you but how can you embarrass him in front of everyone? You’re not my family from now on and apologize to my husband right now!”

Calvin wanted to talk back because she never treated him like family before.

But to be honest, Rita never saw him as her husband and Carrie never saw him as her son-in-law. So he had nothing to say about it.

Rita’s heart was simmered with hatred and she glared at Calvin who was surrounded by accusations and hate.

Being with him brought her nothing but shame. She was done with it and wanted closure.

“Calvin!” Rita shouted at him. Calvin looked up at her.

Rita felt he was staring at her and was a little regretful. But then the regret was overwhelmed by wrath.

“Apologize to Vincent.”

Calvin was shocked that she would say that to him.

Vincent felt like he was walking on air. He looked at Calvin and said, “What? You can’t say it out loud? Now you want your dignity back? Then what about me? When you said those things in front of everyone, did you think about the consequences?”

Calvin took a deep breath and said, “I can apologize. If I am wrong, you can even ask me to kneel.”

Calvin turned to Mrs. Houston, “Mrs. Houston is a famous collector. Can you let her check whether this is jade or not?”

Everyone was astonished. He was abnormally stubborn unlike usual.

Was he really telling the truth?

And was this amulet truly deadly like he said?

Mrs. Houston was still holding the amulet. She didn’t take a look at it and she glared at Calvin.

“What do you expect me to say!?” she said with anger. Rita kept giving Calvin a look and wanted him to stop this nonsense.

Calvin stood straight and all he wanted was justice.

“Mrs. Houston, this amulet is not made of jade and once you carry it, it will bring you bad luck and...”

Just as Calvin was about to tell her all the bad things it could do, Mrs. Houston smacked her walking stick on the tiles and stood up unsteadily, “You shut up. You and Vincent are my grandsons-in-law. You never helped out with the family business and harmony and all you do is telling lies and making troubles for all of us. Vincent handpicked this jade amulet. How could it be fake? What is fake is not the amulet but you.”

Calvin was shocked at her lies.

He was absolutely sure that Mrs. Houston definitely had a better judgement about it and could see the problem. She liked collecting jade ware and even some jewelry appraisers would come to her for help. She unquestionably had the ability to tell it was not jade.

Calvin forced himself to calm down. No, she knew the truth but still lied about it. She was deliberately taking Vincent’s side.

He was desperately disappointed. Why couldn’t she be fair?

Did he only deserve to be wronged?

Mrs. Houston was trembling out of anger. Vince took his opportunity and yelled at Calvin, “Calvin, you’re being too petty. It’s okay if you don’t like me, but you don’t have to give grandma a hard time. Today is her birthday. You really want to sabotage this?”

“I sabotage this?”

“It’s all my fault?”

Betty chimed in sarcastically, “I thought someone said that if he was wrong, he would kneel and apologize, right?”

Rita was stunned by her words, “Betty, stop butting in.”

Betty didn’t like Rita in the first place and now Rita dared to teach her a lesson. She shouted, “Mind your own business. You’d better keep an eye on your husband. If you can’t, don’t let him bring shame on our family. I feel embarrassed for you.”

Carrie burst into tears and started hitting Calvin, “You douche bag! Why would I let my daughter marry you?! Shame on you! This birthday party is ruined because of you and you still have the courage to stay in this room. Piss off!”

Calvin didn’t dare to hit her back and just flinched.

Betty wouldn’t just let it slide, “What a loving mother-in-law! It looked like she’s hitting him but actually she is trying to help him get away with this. Not today! I’m gonna teach you a lesson. Kneel.”

Other relatives were either gloating or yelling that Calvin should kneel.

Calvin roared with sorrow and wrath, which intimidated everyone, “Fine, I’ll kneel. But I’m not wrong. You can insult me but you cannot be unjust. What goes around comes around. Don’t regret for what you did.”

Mrs. Houston was stunned and even got scared.

Calvin took a step back and there was lightning in his eyes. But no one saw it because he lowered his head.

Calvin got down on one knee. The second he kneeled, a thunder struck and all people were startled.

“What happened? Is that a thunder?”

“Yeah, and it felt so close. Why would there be a thunder on such a nice day?”

“The moment that kid kneeled, the thunder came. Was that a coincidence?”

“Yeah, it’s by chance. He’s a loser. Even God would ignore him.”

Seeing him on his knees, Vincent smiled like a champion, “Calvin, learn from your mistakes. Grandma, it’s a big day for you. Don’t be mad. It’s about time for dinner.”

Mrs. Houston waved her hand and said, “Okay. My appetite is ruined anyway.”

Calvin stood up and Vincent waved his hand at him, “Stop being the pain in the ass here and go to help out in the kitchen.”

He helped Mrs. Houston sit down but the wooden chair crumbled when she sat on it. Mrs. Houston was caught off guard and fell down on the wood chips.

“Ahhh...” A painful scream astonished everyone.

“Help her!” Rita was the first one to respond. She yelled and they all came to help Mrs. Houston up.

Her back was stained with blood. A lot of chips got stuck in her flesh. The wounds weren’t deep but she lost much blood.

“Take her back there and clean her wounds.”

Vincent and the other guys lifted her up and went backward. But within a few steps, Vincent slipped and fell very hard. And his hands were holding her legs tightly. And snap...

“My leg...”

Vincent’s face went pale and he apologized again and again.

Calvin knew the deadly amulet was working.
