Matthew didn’t continue their conversation. He stood up and said, “Let’s go! If the party begins, we will not have a chance to meet Mr. Butler in private again.”

Blanca nodded and got quickly off the couch. She tidied up her clothes to cover her nervousness. A hint of a smile touched Matthew’s lips. He liked to look at her when she got a little nervous. She was really funny and brought him so much fun.

Matthew went in front, Blanca behind him obediently. As they walked, Blanca felt more and more nervous. The mystery of her birth would be revealed. At this thought, her palms were so sweaty.

“Yes. Is Mr. Butler here?” Matthew knew Malinda but not very well.

“No, he’s not here. He just left with someone,” Malinda said. She smiled more widely and Blanca could see her white and pretty teeth.

Malinda and Matthew stood close to each other. One was handsome and the other was beautiful. It seemed they were so well suited. Malinda looked at Matthew with eyes softly glowing. Blanca suddenly realized that Malinda loved Matthew!

“Well. We will come next time,” said Matthew. He held Blanca’s hand and turned to leave.

“Matthew!” Malinda stopped them. “If you have something important, I can pass your message on to Grandpa.”

“No. Thank you,” Matthew replied and kept walking.

Just then, Blanca twisted her feet and Matthew held her hands tightly to steady her. Blanca felt the warmth of his hand. She hadn’t seen Mr. Butler, but she didn’t look depressed. She was sure that Matthew would fulfill her wish.

Malinda stared after them and the smile vanished from her pretty face.
