Please Be Gentle With Me Mr Grant novel Chapter 149

Blanca followed Matthew down the stairs. She lowered her head and seemed to be deep in thought.

Matthew looked at her with concern. He thought she was sad since she could not meet Mr. Butler this time. “Okay, I know you’re upset...” he tried to comfort her.

“I’m not upset, for I know you are the kind of guy who will do what you have promised. It was because of my high heels,” Blanca said. Her face broke into a radiant smile, full of the light of youth.

For a while, Matthew couldn’t get his eyes off her face. Then he gave a crisp yet dry cough and looked away. “Well. Let’s go.”

No sooner had they arrived on the first floor than two guests approached Matthew and they talked. Matthew was the chairman of the Empire Group. So, there were many guests who wanted to get acquainted with him.

Blanca stood by his side quietly. To her surprise, someone came to greet her, “I saw you walking with Mr. Grant just now. I guess you are his wife, Blanca. It is such an honor to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too,” said Blanca politely. Louise, with her friends, entered the conversation too. Blanca talked to them with a polite smile. She knew she was not only Blanca, but also the wife of Matthew and Mrs. Grant. She could not disgrace the Grant family at this moment.

However, just at that moment, a crisp voice came from nearby. “Ah! Blanca! Is that really you? What are you doing here?”

Blanca followed the voice and saw a maid standing right in front of her. she recognized she was Helen, who went to the same high school with her.

“Where have you been all these years? I haven’t seen you for ages. I didn’t expect to see you here. Oh my god! Your dress looked so expensive!” Helen continued and the excitement in her voice was palpable.

Malinda was surprised and couldn’t help asking, “You know Blanca?”

“Yes, Miss Roach. I haven’t seen her in a long time. We went to the same high school, but she left the school afterward and no one knew where she was,” Helen said excitedly. She was dressed in gray Khaki uniforms and wore an apron, her eyes bright with excitement. “Blanca used to work in a restaurant with me. Oh, by the way, why are you here?”

At once everyone in the hall became silent. In fact, Blanca had openly admitted that she hadn’t finished high school and had spent some time in juvie. Many people admired her courage at that moment, but things were diffident at this point. Some of them gave Blanca a contemptuous look.

To everyone’s surprise, Blanca’s face did not change. Instead, she smiled kindly. “It’s great to see you again, Helen! I’m here for the party.” Then she turned to Malinda and said, “We indeed had gone to the same school, Malinda. Now she works for you. I hope you could give a hand if she needs.”

“Sure,” Malinda said. She looked at Blanca in surprise. In such a situation, Blanca did not look like she felt even just a little panic at all. On the contrary, she was unashamed to admit her past. The crowd of onlookers were rather impressed by her sincerity and walked away. Malinda took a look at Blanca, apparently lost in thought. Blanca was smarter than she thought.

“Sorry, Helen. I’ve just got something to do first and I hope to see you again.” Blanca said and took her by the hand.

Helen had understood what was going on. She looked a little white and ashamed. “Sorry, Blanca. I always say the wrong thing.”

“Don’t blame yourself. You did nothing wrong.” Blanca held her hand, trying to comfort her. She didn’t expect to see her here, but it was nothing special. She wouldn’t and couldn’t hide her humble origins. Even so, Blanca was a little depressed because of their contemptuous look. From then on, no one talked to her. Maybe they thought Blanca didn’t deserve to become their friends.
