“For holidays, your little daughter gets new dresses, but this kid gets nothing. You treated her totally like a wild child. Or worse, you made her do chores and babysit her little sister. For these unfair treatments, you always told her that it was her responsibility to take care of her little sister because she’s the elder sister. Right?”

While saying those words, Megan thought of her findings and a look of disgust appeared on her face. “Even after she divorced, you let her suffered a marriage which your little daughter unsatisfied with by making her marry in place of your little daughter. You really are a piece of work as a person.”

Belinda felt guilty upon hearing these words, but on second thoughts, she thought that she was right.

“How? It’s every human being’s instinct to be good to her own daughter. She’s not my biological child and you know that. Why should I be nice to her? I owe her nothing. Besides, the Wilson family brought her up, sent her to school and provided her with every opportunity to receive educations. I have nothing to be sorry for.”

“I am afraid that you have forgotten your original intention. Do you think she would choose you as her mother if given the choice? You adopted her because you and your husband had been infertile. But god knows since you have your own child she’s been treated badly. Did it ever occur to you that she had brought joy and affections to you when you saw her suffering from all those unfairness?”

Belinda, “…”

Belinda suddenly remembered that before she was pregnant, she and her husband had been very happy to adopt Charlotte, because her eyebrows and eyes were so pretty and they thought she would be a beautiful child when she grows up.

And they also discussed that they would find a decent husband for her when she reaches marriageable age.

But then after Belinda has her own child, she gradually changed her mind. She began to hate Charlotte, even saw that child as a drag and had spent all her money. Belinda nodded. There was nothing for her to deny. What’s done is done.

Megan had a look at Zain, the latter nodded. She then asked, “What about the safety locks?”

Belinda took a look at them and said angrily, “What on earth do you want?”

“Mrs.Wilson, it’s pretty clear. You sure you don’t know what we want?”

“You wanna…” It took her a long time to realize what was happening. She gazed at them in disbelief, “Is it, is it that Charlotte is…”

“Please return that safety locks if possible. There are inscriptions above them which were Zain’s grandfather Frank Nelson had them make at a great cost.”

Belinda felt that life was so illusory. She actually adopted a rich family’s child? And now here they come.

She couldn’t just hand over Charlotte that easily.

While thinking of this, she coughed lightly and said “You want her back, how I know if you’re telling the truth? That pair of safety locks do seem to be worth a lot of money. And besides, it’s not a crime to adopt a child from an orphanage, right? As for the rest, it was all happened after she was adopted. As her mother, I have the right to decide the way I treat her. Then she took out a bank card like juggling and placed it on the table, “Mrs.Wilson, thank you for taking care of Miss Nelson all these years. This is five million. If you are willing to return the safety locks, the money is all yours.”

Belinda’s eyes lighted up as she heard that there is five million. As if all the lights were suddenly turned on at once in a quiet dark night.

But soon, she took a look at Zain who was standing in front of her. And since he came in, the house was full of the man's aura and even had no enough room for it. Such a wealthy man…five million?

With these thoughts in her mind, Belinda pretended to be lofty and coughed lightly, “what do you mean? Five million to buy me over? Do I look like a greedy person?”

“According to our investigation, you owe more than 1 million gambling debts. Your husband is deeply in debt thanks to your debt issue. And Charlotte, your elder daughter, has already paid the debt for you in advance of 300 thousand, right?”

Megan knowingly stepped forward and took the bank card back.

“We did not prepare the money before coming. After all, you are the one who raised Charlotte for over 20 years. It’s hurting to settle it with money. Now that it seems you totally agree with us.”
