Second Marriage novel Chapter 336

Her brother would be very sad if she refused directly.

So, Charlotte didn't say anything. It was a sign of agreeing.

Zain didn't stay for too long. He left after seeing that she ate the porridge. Before he left, he told her, "I have sent guards to protect you. They are around here. Don't open the door when you don't know who is outside the door. Don't do it again."

Charlotte didn't give a second thought when she did that because she couldn't think clearly. Fortunately, it was Zain who was outside the door. She might be dead tonight if it was someone up to no good.

So, instead of talking back to him, she nodded and said, "I won't do it again."

After Zain left, Charlotte locked the door and went back to her bed. She found her phone recharging. And there was a laptop on her nightstand.

The laptop didn't seem like a new one. When she picked it up, a piece of paper fell out. The password was written on it. She entered the password like she was being controlled to do it. She surprisingly found some files that weren't put in order on the desktop.

Maybe...it was Zain's laptop?

'How could he just give it to me? Isn't he afraid that I may know about his trade secrets?'

Or, he paid all his attention to his sister who was recently found so he could barely focus on other things?

These thoughts made her upset. She turned off the laptop and put it aside.

She turned on her phone when it was fully recharged.

The phone kept reminding her that she missed calls and texts from Yanis after it was turned on. It could be told that Yanis was worried about her, so she called her back.

Suddenly, she realized it was in the middle of the night. Yanis probably wouldn't answer the call.

Charlotte got though when she wanted to hang up.

"Hello? Is it Charlotte?" Yanis's voice indicated her worry.

Charlotte suddenly wanted to cry. She nodded and said, "Yes, it's me."

"Is it really you? Are you OK? Charlotte...Do you know that we are worried about you? I just answered a call and you were gone. How are you now? Where are you?"

"Don't worry." Charlotte explained, "I'm in a hotel now and I'm fine. I just...wanted to be alone for a while, so I left. Sorry for making you worried."

Yanis sighed, "Of course I knew that you wanted to be alone. But I would be scared too if I encountered what happened to you. How could you not call me until now? Thank god you call back finally. I might have stayed up all night if you didn't tell me you're fine."

"Now that I tell you that I'm safe, you can get rest now. It's rather late."

"No! Send me your location. I can't sleep without knowing where you are."

Charlotte felt her heart warm. She agreed, "I will send it to you after hanging up the phone."

"OK! Hang up now and send me your location."

Before Charlotte realized it, Yanis hung up the phone. Then Charlotte logged in her Wechat and sent Yanis her location.

Yanis's worry dissipated after she received the location.

And Yanis also told Charlotte to be careful. Otherwise, she would come to the hotel room. Their conversation ended then.

It had been a hard day. Charlotte was tired. And since she easily got sleepy recently, she couldn't keep her eyes open now. She drifted into sleep after she put away the phone.

However, what she dreamed wasn't nice. Even...it was so cruel that she only wanted to wake up.

"From now on, we are only strangers. You are no longer the second daughter-in-law of the Moore family."

"Get out. I, Kennedy Moore, would not marry a woman that has got divorced."

"I got pregnant with Kennedy's baby. But your baby is a bastard. Charlotte, you are nothing better than me."

Charlotte finally woke up after a long night of nightmare. Sunlight was coming through the window and the room was bright. She wiped the perspiration off her forehead. She found herself having sweat a lot.

She got up and went to the bathroom to wash up.

After shower, she heard the door bell ringing. She checked the time and found it was half past seven. She wanted to open the door directly at first. But then she thought of what Zain had told her last night. So, she looked through the peephole, finding an old lady with a benevolent countenance standing outside.

Charlotte opened the door after thinking a while.

"Ma'am, what can I do for you?"

"Good morning, lady." The old lady smiled and showed the bag she held, saying, "I came here to bring you breakfast under Mr. Nelson's orders."

It was true that every meal would be prepared. It was out of Charlotte's expectation that Zain had arranged this. But...it was in the middle of the night when she came to the hotel. Zain still arranged these things well.

Did he not go to sleep until late night?

Realizing this, Charlotte stood aside and said, "Thank you. Please come in."

The old lady came in but she didn't run her eyes over the room. Then, she opened the bag and took the meal boxes out, saying, "It's my first time that I prepare a meal for you, so I'm not sure what you like. You can tell me what you like and I will prepare it for you."

"Thank you. You're so nice."

"It's my pleasure. You may just call me Lanna."

"Thanks, Lanna. I'm not a fan of sweet food but I'm not picky on other food."

Lanna nodded and smiled, saying, "I got it. Did you just wake up? Have you washed up yet?"

"Yeah, I have."

"Good. I will leave the breakfast on the table. Are there anything I can buy for you?"

"Thanks, Lanna. I don't have anything in need right now."

"OK, then I'm leaving."

"Thanks again."

When Lanna walked out the door, Charlotte suddenly stopped her because one thing came to her mind. Very confused, Lanna asked, "What's wrong?"

Charlotte walked to the bed and picked up the laptop on the nightstand. She packed it in a briefcase and gave it to Lanna, explaining, "It's the laptop that Mr. Nelson...left here last night. Could you please return it to him?"

Listening to what she said, Lanna smiled and said, "Forgive me, lady. I can't do you this favor. Mr. Nelson's laptop is so valuable. And I'm careless. I'm afraid that I might break it."

Charlotte knew Lanna was declining. She realized she herself was being thoughtless. The laptop might have trade secrets if it was Zain's office laptop. She shouldn't give it to someone else so easily.
