Sinful Mates 1-3 novel Chapter 143

  Evelyn’s POV

It had been a month since we left, we had been staying at Thaddeus’s parent’s house. Orion was right, without Thaddeus even though I still had them, I felt his absence deeply. I missed him, the first week or so was fine, the second was harder and now it was agony.

Orion and Ryland tried to cheer me up, they had even been letting me see Lana every week. We meet in the city every Friday. Tomorrow I would see her, and I looked forward to it. It was my favourite day of the week because I got to see her. April hadn’t said anything since that first day I saw her, and we had been getting along fine. Though I sometimes caught her staring and the look on her face was a little off sometimes when I caught her watching. Ryland and Orion didn’t trust her said something smelt off about her, that they didn’t trust her. She had given me no reason to distrust her, so I just put it down to the fact they just didn’t like her because of what she said that one time.

Amara let us have her room, and she stayed inside with her parents. His parents were always welcoming and nice, but I often caught his father’s watching me, not in a bad way but like they wanted to ask me something but didn’t know how. Or maybe they blamed me for their son taking off, I wasn’t sure.

Walking into the kitchen, I see Ryland talking to Tobias at the counter. Amara was talking to her other father while making coffee’s. I went to see if they wanted help, but Imogen pulled me toward her pulling a stool out. I sat down and Tobias had that look on his face again like he wanted me to answer something. Imogen nudged him with her elbow. “Don’t stare, you scare her when you do that?” she tells him, and he looks away.

“Don’t mind him dear. Guilt is eating at him“ she says making me furrow my eyebrows.

“I don’t understand” I tell her. Theo places a coffee in front of me, messy my hair as he goes and retrieves another. Tobias says nothing but Theo answers.

“Amara told us what happened to you, Tobias even Bianca blames themselves for what happened, think they should have just kept you” Theo says. Well, that’s not what I thought he was going to say.

I shake my head. “You told them?” I ask shocked, I hadn’t even told her but knew she snooped into my past.

“I know I shouldn’t have showed them, but dad kept pestering me, thinking he destroyed your life” Amara said, and my face flushed with humiliation. It was one thing Thaddeus and Orion knowing exactly what happened down to every detail another knowing it was now public knowledge.

“Don’t be ashamed, you did nothing wrong Evelyn, you were a child” Imogen tells me.

“So, do you hate me?” Amara asks, I shake my head.

“Please don’t do that again, some things I like to keep to myself” I tell her, and she nods.

“And I was never your responsibility and like I said to Thaddeus, chances are I would have ended up in Foster care anyway, Thaddeus said my parents didn’t exactly have the best lifestyle” Tobias looks relieved, letting out a breath.

“You really thought I would blame you and Bianca?”

“Yes, can I ask you something else?” he asks but Amara stops him waving her arms and shaking her head.

  “What’s wrong?” I ask her.

“Nothing, but I know that conversation is best between you and your mates” she answers, and I look to them. They both shrug not understanding what she is talking about.

“Believe me when Thaddeus comes back you will have that discussion.”

“Thaddeus will come back?” I ask, Even Ryland and Orion looked up at her.

“Yes, my idiot brother will come back soon but he won’t stay, and I am not sure when.”

“You can’t dig into the future?” I ask wanting to know.

“No, I can’t, I let things come to me. Me peeking can change things, manipulate the future, which is never a good Idea, so I try not to pry. The past though, has already been so I can snoop as much as I want into people’s past, but their future, I slip up and tell you the wrong thing, it could alter it” She explains. Kind of made sense although I really wanted to see him.

The rest of the day was spent with Imogen. She showed me where she worked which was Kane and Madden enterprises. She is Tobias and Theo’s secretary and to kill the boredom, today I went with her. She showed me around the building and explained the different departments. It all went over my head. She also introduced me to one of her best friends a woman named Merida. Orion and Ryland stayed at home and figured I was safe enough with Imogen. It felt good being out of the house without their lingering concerned eyes all the time.

I was never alone, one of them always by my side because my heat has been more frequent. Amara said it was because Thaddeus was gone, that my soul was calling out to him in a way, the body’s natural reaction to missing their mate. I didn’t understand and gave up trying. To be honest their world which is the world now is strange and somethings I just couldn’t wrap my head around.

After a few hours of helping Imogen with the new file system, Theo walked out telling us it was time for lunch. I completely lost track of time completely engrossed in the headache task Imogen and I were trying to complete.

“I have a few more to do still, Evelyn can go down for us, can’t you Evelyn?” Theo gave her a worried look glancing at me.

“Are you sure that’s a good Idea, Thaddeus will have our heads if something happens to her” Theo questioned.

“Well, if he wanted her watched 24/7 he should be watching her, she is quite capable of going to the café Theo. She isn’t a child, and I am sure she is sick of being babysat” Imogen tells him leaving no room for argument. Theo sighs but nods before handing me his card. Imogen gives me their coffee and lunch orders and I take the elevator down to the ground floor before walking to café at the end of the street.

Putting in the order and paying, I wait outside when I suddenly feel eyes on me, looking across the street I see no one out of place, no one was anywhere near me, yet I had this strange sense like I was being watch, could feel their gaze. Feeling creeped out, I go to walk back into the café when I notice him. Thaddeus leaning against the wall near the alleyway. I stare at him shocked, thinking I had lost my mind and started imagining him. Yet when he moved off the wall towards me, I had no doubt it was actually him.

Just the sight of him made my heartbeat faster before I suddenly got nervous. Thaddeus walks over and stop in front me.

“Hello little one” he says before he reaches his hand out and cups my face with his warm hand, his thumb rubbing along my cheek bone. I lean into his touch sparks moving against my skin.

“I missed you” I tell him. Thaddeus drops his hand stepping back and I reach out for him, but he steps away from me. My heart clenching at his rejection.

“Why are you alone?” he asks looking up the street. I ignore his question instead asking my own.

“Are you coming back with me?” I ask, hoping he was going to say yes. Thaddeus says nothing.

“I will walk you back” he says when the woman behind the counter calls my name.

“I don’t need a sitter, are you coming home or not?” I ask as she places the order on the counter for me.

“You’re better off without me, I won’t be coming back, Evelyn.”

“Then why are you here? If you plan on disappearing for months then popping up out of the blue, don’t bother. Just choose to be with us,” I tell him.

“I just needed to see you; I didn’t want to disturb you.”

“You thinking you can just pop in and out is disturbing. Either come home or don’t come back, Thaddeus,” I tell him turning to grab the coffee and bag off the counter. Turning back around he is gone. I look up the street in both directions but can’t see him anywhere. I guess he made his choice then, I think to myself.

I felt his leave deeply, he didn’t say anything just poof and he was gone, like a figment of my imagination. Swallowing the lump that formed in my throat I walk back to the office.

Imogen looking up as I enter before darting over to me. “What happened?” She asked.

“Nothing.” I smile but I feel it falter, my eyes burning with unshed tears.

“You look on the verge of tears, dear. You smell like?” She shakes her head.

“Thaddeus,” I answer, and she nods.

Tobias rushes out the door. “Thaddeus did you see him?” he asks. I press my lips in a line. Trying to fight the overwhelming feelings seeing him has conjured up.

“Where is he?” Tobias asks, looking around the foyer just as Theo rushes out of his office. I shake my head.

“He’s not coming back” I tell him. His eyes going to Imogen and I could see the hurt on her face. She longed for her son just as much as longed for my mate.
