Take Me Away novel Chapter 79

Ever since Fiona got the Comic Bear, she hadn’t let it go. It made her feel so warm and comforted in spite of the cold winter days she’d been spending in the hospital bed.

"I didn’t expect you to like those kinds of toys. You really are just a kid, deep inside," Ruby said, smiling.

Fiona stayed quiet. When she was young, her father would often be out on missions. Every time before he left, he’d tell her that when he was not at home, Comic Bear would keep her company and protect her.

She had no doubts about what her father said at that time. She was a child, after all. Eventually, she became so dependent on the Comic Bear that she couldn’t fall asleep without it in her arms. When they discontinued its production, it took her a long time to adjust.

Being able to embrace it again now made her feel better than any medicine they could give. Ruby grinned. "Whoever sent you that gift is so thoughtful!"

Fiona raised her head and smiled back, though she was confused. She didn’t remember telling anyone about it. Plus, they must have been so intent on finding something that had been discontinued for years.

"It’s called Comic Bear, right?" Ruby asked.

"Yes, how do you know about it?"

"You talked in your sleep last night."

"I had one when I was a child. After a while, whoever made it stopped its production," Fiona said.

"Why do you still seem so attached to it?"

It then suddenly occurred to Fiona that she had a similar conversation with Spencer a long time ago. Could it be him?

"Ruby," she said. "Has Spencer really never visited me here?"

"Mr. Cheng?

I’m quite certain I haven’t seen—"

Before Ruby could finish, the door was pushed open by none other than Celine.

With a look of disdain and mockery, she walked in with crossed arms and a certain air of arrogance. "Of course he hasn’t! Did you really think he would waste his time visiting you? In your dreams!"

She smiled coldly, feeling pathetic. ‘I lost my baby, and Spencer lets her in here to what, show off? What does she even want right now?’ Fiona thought.

Ruby gazed at Celine, wondering why she was here. As far as she was concerned, Spencer told her not to allow anyone to disturb Fiona. But should such rule include his own sister? If she came in as Spencer's sister, Ruby could have allowed it, but why was she being so condescending?

Celine felt joyous at the sight of a pale Fiona in a hospital gown. The doctor told her that it was because of an abortion, and that it was Spencer who had ordered them to operate. Although Celine wasn’t pleased that Fiona had gotten pregnant in the first place, the fact was that Spencer clearly didn’t want this child. That was the best news she’d heard in a long time. She didn’t know how to take it in. Did it mean she still had a chance?

"Miss Cheng," Ruby finally said. "Mrs. Cheng is tired. Can you come back later or tomorrow if you want to visit her? She needs to rest."

"Rest?" Celine raised her eyebrows and pointed at Fiona. "She should pack up and leave this hospital! Who the hell does she think she is?" She turned to glare at Fiona. "Did you hear what I said? Spencer blessed neither your marriage nor your dead child."

Fiona certainly couldn’t fathom who Spencer was. He had tried to kill her and even had her child aborted. If so, who was that man that risked his life to save her?

Who had given her that wonderful dream-like weekend at Maple Mountain?

"Don’t worry. I will leave. I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you again. He is never mine. You didn’t have to show up here just to tell me that," she replied softly.

"I just wanted to remind you in case you forget. But since you intend to leave, then everything seems to be in order." Celine glanced at her watch. "Well, it’s time to go to work. This place is bad luck anyway, so I don’t want to stay long."

She turned around, the corners of her lips slowly lifting.

"Wait!" Fiona suddenly said.

"What now?" Celine stopped at the door. "Is there anything else you need reminding of?"

"Can you please not tell Grandpa what happened?" she said in an insistent tone. "He’s always wanted a great-grandson, so if he finds out what happened, he might not be able to take it. You know the state of his health. We can’t affording anything happening to him."

"Anyone can give him a great grandson."

"But you can’t. To him, you’re Spencer’s sister." The smile on Celine’s face disappeared before it could spread, but Fiona didn’t seem to notice. "If something were to happen to Grandpa, you and Spencer won’t ever be together for the rest of your life. You know how much he cares for his grandpa. So, just don’t tell others about it."

Celine clenched her fists. The truth behind it was horrible enough. She didn’t need Fiona to remind her of it.

"I don’t need you to remind me! Don’t waste my time with your stupid stories!" She turned around and abruptly left, stomping on her high heels until she slipped into the elevator.

The grin that had only started to creep up on her face was gone.

She clenched her fists as the elevator went down. 'Who does Fiona think she is? Nevertheless, now that the abortion was still a fresh incident, I have to think of a way to get back on Spencer’s good side.' She’d been passive since she came back, but she couldn’t sit still and wait for death. She had to act as soon as possible.

The doors of another elevator opened slowly and revealed Spencer, who then stepped out and marched steadily towards Fiona’s room.

In the room, Ruby sighed and glanced at Fiona. "Is what you said true?"

"What?" Fiona turned her head.

"You said you wanted to leave Mr. Cheng."

Spencer froze just as he was about to reach for the knob.

"Yes." Fiona shot a firm look at an astounded Ruby. She clenched her fists. "I trust you, and so I will tell you the truth. I do plan to leave."

Outside, Spencer tried to get a hold of himself. Fiona had talked many times prior about leaving, but this time, he felt it was different.
