Take Me Away novel Chapter 87

"You still love me, don't you?" asked Celine, her eyes full of expectation and eagerness.

Spencer's eyes flooded with emotions. Since her return from abroad, Celine had asked him the question each chance she got. He'd always been evasive of it, but now that she had given herself up to save him, he felt obliged to not be so heartless anymore.

"I..." He frowned as he tried to figure out a response. Before he could say anything, Celine placed her hand on her chest and gasped, "Ouch. It hurts!"

"Again?" Spencer asked with worry. "Don't move." He quickly got up and held her. "I'll call the doctor."

Then, Celine loosened up and let out a soft chuckle. When she saw the nervous expression on his face, she couldn't help but erupt into laughter. She grabbed his sleeves and said, "I'm lying! I thought you were an acute observer? Why are you fooled by me every time? Or am I just that good in acting?"

"Don't joke about your health." Spencer got back on his feet and gave Celine a cold look. He couldn't hide the concern in his words.

"Spencer," Celine said seriously as she grasped his hand. "You are fooled by me each time. Is it because you care for me too much? When I got injured, I felt like I went through hell. But it made me understand a lot of things better."

"Like what?" asked Spencer.

"I suddenly understand that living is a very happy thing." Celine smiled gently. "When I was in a coma, I tried to open my eyes but I couldn't. I wanted to escape the emptiness but I could only do nothing. I was so desperate. The moment I woke up, gratitude filled me. I was just happy to be alive."

"Yes, life is not easy. You should cherish life." His own words reminded him of Fiona. She was a person who cherished her life so much. He would do anything to protect her from all the bad things.

"It's not easy to live, and it's hard to find someone who is willing to live with you." Celine stared at Spencer. "I know it better than anyone else. There are so many things we need to consider, but I don't want to give up on you." As a way of response,

Spencer frowned.

"Spencer..." Celine tried to continue.

"No." Spencer shook his head. "Do you know our current relationship? You are my—"

"I'm your sister, I know!" Celine rolled her eyes. "You have stressed many times that I'm your sister. But the truth is, we are not related at all. We were even once a couple. How do you expect me to be okay just being your sister?"

"But what's done is done. We can't change the situation," said Spencer.

"Who says that? I got a plan!" Celine said. "I can leave the Cheng family and live with my father. That way, I will no longer be your sister and I can finally be with you."

"You're willing to go back to your hard-drinking father?" Spencer snarled. "You and your mother worked so hard to stay away from him, and now you're willingly putting yourself back in such a dangerous position? Don't do that."

"But if I don't, then I can't be with you." Celine raised her voice. "I'd rather live a hard life if I can be with you. Besides, I'm well-off now. I'm not as vulnerable as I used to be. He wouldn't dare hurt me this time. I'm just trying to find a way to be with you."

"But I'm married," Spencer replied flatly.

After sending Wayne back, Fiona returned to the hospital. On her way, she passed by Celine's ward. She was able to get a glimpse of Spencer inside. He was frowning as Celine stared at him affectionately. She figured they were talking about something important.

Out of curiosity, she decided to stay by the door and eavesdrop.

"So what?" Celine retorted, as if Spencer just said the most absurd thing. "You can get a divorce. You are not in love with her. Fiona had a miscarriage a few days ago, didn't she?"

"How did you know that?" Spencer was startled. They'd been keeping it a secret.

"I overheard you speak about it. I can't help it. I'm a curious person and you know that. I heard where she was, so I went to the hospital to check on her. I won't tell anyone about it, I promise. Especially not Grandpa. I know he's been wanting a great-grandson."

Standing outside the room, Fiona sneered. Celine wouldn't gain anything by spilling it, so she trusted she'd keep it.

"That wasn't a miscarriage," Spencer replied in a cold voice.

"What?" Celine pretended to be shocked. "It wasn't a miscarriage. Then what was it?"

"I told the doctor to abort the baby." Spencer clenched his fists. "That child shouldn't have come to this world."

Fiona did not budge. She remained emotionless as she stood by the door, her face covered with sadness. She placed her hand on her lower abdomen. It'd been a while since she lost the child. She still felt sad. Even her underbelly was still a bit painful. During the surgery, she felt as if a part of her body was pulled away.

And the culprit was the father of the child.

"Spencer, are you sad, too? About the abortion?" Celine asked inquisitively.

"Sad?" A self-mocking smile appeared on Spencer's lips. "The decision was made for everyone's sake."

"Do you hate her? Is this some sort of revenge?" Celine squinted. "Because of her, we can't be together. Your marriage was arranged. Even if I were not your sister, it would have still been impossible for us to get married."

"The car accident ten years ago took my mother away. And with her passing came you and your mother. It's been a mess since then. I really do wish Fiona could just die. I want to torture her and hurt her..." Fiona covered her mouth, wanting to make sure they couldn't hear her cries. She was deeply upset.

She never expected anything nice from him, but what he said still wounded her. It wasn't her fault and she didn't know anything; it was unfair of him to put all the blame on her.

Fiona turned around and left the ward.

She felt no connection with Spencer. It was pointless to try to find a connection when their marriage had been arranged since childhood. The saying "love grows as time goes by" was not applicable to them.
