Take Me Away novel Chapter 148

Eric stared at Fiona and couldn't help but recall Spencer. He had accompanied Spencer throughout the day. Spencer had been sitting like a statue staring at the divorce agreement in his hands and finally signed his name at the bottom of the document.

When Eric came back from his senses, he noticed that Fiona had already signed the agreement.

George could only freeze in shock. Pain and resentment filled his eyes. 'Spencer, how could you be so heartless!' he thought.

"Fiona..." He opened his mouth with the intention of comforting her, but he couldn't come up with the proper words.

Teardrops fell from her eyes onto the document when she read it before handing it back to Eric. In her miserable state, it was impossible for him to not feel sorry for her.

Eric took the divorce agreement and informed her, "Spencer said that it isn't safe for you to stay here in P City. He still hasn't dealt with Charles. It's best for you to leave. He will send you back to M City, where you will stay at the Cheng family residence. You should stay at home and spend time with his grandpa. When things are dealt with here, he will go back to see you."

"Grandpa..." Fiona's heart sank at the mention of Wayne. She didn't know how she could possibly face him after everything that had happened. How could she go back to that place full of memories?

"They're divorced! Why does he still insist on taking charge of Fiona's life?" George asked Eric with a cold stare. "Go back and tell Spencer that whether or not Fiona chooses to stay or leave for M City, it's her decision and it's none of his business. Why is he being so self-righteous now? Fiona doesn't have to go back to the Cheng family if she doesn't want to!" George's hands tightened into fists as he raged.

"But if she won't go back to M City, where will she go?" Eric said anxiously. "Charles has urged the leaders of T Country to investigate our entry without permission. If she stays in this place, she's going to get caught up in the mess. Do you have any idea how dangerous it is for her to stay here? Do you think that Charles would stop pursuing her just like that? Spencer is doing this for her own good!"

A bitter laughter broke out from Fiona, causing the men to turn to her. She gave a sad yet mocking smile. "So this divorce is for my own good?"

Hearing this, Eric wanted to say something, but decided otherwise. Regaining his composure, he looked at her and said in a low voice, "Take care of yourself, Fiona. Should you run into any trouble, please don't hesitate to call me. I will do my best to help you. As for Spencer, I hope you won't blame him for this decision. Just stay in M City and wait for him."

"Stop acting like you care about Fiona," George said with a menacing look. "If there's nothing else, I think it's best for you to leave."

Eric could only sigh in reply. After giving George a slight bow, he nodded at Fiona and left.

As soon as the door closed behind him, Fiona burst into tears as she buried her face in her hands. Her body trembled as she cried her heart out.

She had never expected to feel so humiliated for divorcing her husband. Not only did she feel shocked, but also felt utterly defeated. She could not wrap her head around the idea of being separated from Spencer. She had been used to seeing his stern expression every weekend whenever he came back from the base. She had been used to being close to him and spending time with him.

"Fiona..." George called softly.

"I'm fine, George," she said as she took a deep breath and looked at him. "I'm okay."

"Let me take you abroad. I've applied for a rehabilitation treatment overseas. I can take you and your child with me away from this place," George declared without hesitation.

Fiona could only furrow her brows. "Abroad..."

"Yes." George nodded and pushed his wheelchair nearer to hold her hand. "We can go to I Country together. I heard their Royal Art School is scouting for new talents. It's your dream to study there, isn't it? I can help you apply for a spot."

It was a place Fiona had only ever dreamed of going to,

but for some reason, she couldn't find it in her heart to reply. The divorce caught her off guard and she suddenly found herself without a plan. Despite this, she hesitated to take George up on his offer.

George felt anxious as he looked at Fiona's expression. Pursing his lips, his face turned serious as he spoke. "Fiona, don't forget that I got seriously injured because of you. If you still want to take responsibility for it, come to I Country with me and don't leave me until I can walk on my feet."

"George, I know you're only saying those words for my sake. You're not a bad guy." Her heart felt so heavy once again that she couldn't help but let tears brim in her eyes. She threw herself into George's arms and said firmly, "Let's go to I Country as soon as possible."

George felt relieved as he patted her back. "Yes, we'll leave as soon as possible. We can take the earliest flight tomorrow. We'll leave directly from here."

"No, I can't..." Fiona withdrew from his embrace. "I still need to go back to M City. We can leave from there."

George blinked in confusion, but he eventually nodded and agreed. "Okay, if that's what you want."

Early at dawn of the next day, Fiona was in the infirmary to pick up George and help him with his luggage.

They chatted as she pushed his wheelchair on their way to the ward.

"I think I've been experiencing sensation in my legs lately."

"Really?" Fiona's eyes lit up. "That's great! I'm sure you'll be standing back up in no time!"

They were turning down the hall when they ran into Celine walking arm in arm with Spencer. He was helping her in her weakened state. They were not too far away from them.

Seeing them together, Fiona froze momentarily but she chose not to say a word to either of them. Noticing her from a distance, Celine inched closer to Spencer, her head almost touching his chest. He didn't push her away.

"Fiona..." George was about to speak when Fiona looked away and quickened her pace. She pushed the wheelchair forward, saying, "Let's hurry."
