The Alpha novel Chapter 31

Ethan's POV

It is several minutes of us just lying there in silence before she finally speaks. "So, did you ever end up catching the rest of Ray's thugs?"

"We have three of them right now. They are all locked up. None of them have been particularly helpful, but we're keeping them alive until we can find the other two," I answer as I notice her fingers gently playing with the diamond hanging around her neck.

"Which two are you still looking for?"

"The twins you told me about, Ryder and Rowan," I reply as I think about her description of them. They are just a couple years older than Scarlet. They have always needed someone to follow though they are both smarter than the others in their group. They are almost identical except that they have different hair styles and Rowan's is slightly darker. Ryder has a scar on his left eyebrow.

She nods, her face scrunching up a bit, causing her nose to crinkle. I can't help but to smile at her. I run a finger between her brows, smoothing out the crease that has formed between them. "Don't worry angel. We'll find them," I assure her. She turns to me and smiles softly before placing a sweet kiss to my lips. Suddenly, a loud rumbling sound fills the silence and I cock an eyebrow at Scarlet. "Was that your stomach?"

Her cheeks blush a gorgeous pink and she give me an embarrassed grin. "Yeah. I haven't eaten all day."

"Seriously?" I ask, surprised. She shrugs and nods at me in response. "Okay, let's get cleaned up then and go down to the pack house for some dinner."

"Sounds good."

We arrive in the dining hall about an hour later and an Omega instantly approaches us. "Good evening Alpha, Luna! What would you like for dinner?"

I take a quick glance around to see what was served before turning back to her. "I'll have the steak with mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread. Coffee to drink," I answer.

"I'll have the same, but instead of the potatoes can I have some fruit? And a sweet tea to drink please," Scarlet replies.

"Absolutely! I'll have that right out for you!"

"Thank you, Lilly," Scarlet responds as the Omega scurries off towards the kitchen.

I turn to my mate with a smirk. "Are you on first name basis with all my pack?"

She waves her hand at me dismissively as I pull a chair out for her. "I've been to the kitchens a lot because of the shelter so I know a lot of the Omegas' names," she explains as I sit down beside her.

I simply nod before the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The familiar scent of roses and sea salt fills my nostrils as Nikki approaches us. I instantly regret giving her back her freedom when her pack arrived. I had expected her to go and live with her father and pack once they arrived. Unfortunately, she still seems to spend a lot of time in my pack house. I let out a sigh since it is easy to see that she's here to start trouble yet again. "What is this slut still doing here baby?" she asks in her normal snarky voice as she sits down on the other side of me and glares at Scarlet.

A low growl rumbles through my lips as I feel Scarlet tense up beside me. "That is my mate you are speaking of. You will show her some respect," I demand through gritted teeth.

Nikki's eyes widen innocently as she looks at me. "But baby, I thought for sure you would have rejected her after what happened this morning," she states in the sugary sweet voice that tells me she is about to say something that I won't like.

I turn my head to look at Scarlet, wondering if she has any idea what Nikki is referring to. Her eyes are wide open like a deer caught in headlights and her cheeks are flushed a dark pink. She definitely has an idea of what Nikki is about to say. I can feel my heartbeat accelerate. Whatever she is about to say is sure to be bad. Scarlet looks scared and Nikki is now wearing a triumphant smile. "I'm not in the mood for riddles Nikki," I warn. "Just spit whatever it is out."

"Well, from what I've heard, your MATE went into heat while she was in my father's bedroom," she remarks with an evil glimmer in her blue eyes.

The entire dining hall seems to be eerily quiet. Everyone is watching the scene unfold before them the way that you find you can't look away from a car wreck. My menacing voice is the only thing that can be heard throughout the large hall. "SHE DID WHAT?!"
