The Apple of My Eye novel Chapter 286

When Isla returned after buying breakfast, Mike and Joanna were in Aron's ward. Through the small glass window of the door she saw them sitting beside Aron, wiping tears from their eyes. "Why throw your life away like that, Aron?" they cried. "Why would you go out when you knew you were in poor health? What are we going do if you had an accident?"

They knew that Aron had always been mature and composed. He had mastered his emotions and his mind was ruled by logic and reason. When he steered away from that, it was only because of Isla.

"Sorry, grandma, I won't do such a thing again, " Aron promised, looking at his grandparents apologetically. Yesterday, when he learned that Isla had gone on another blind date, he cut off the drip in the IV infusion attached to his arm. This terrified his grandparents, causing them to stay awake all night.

Although Aron called them as soon as he woke up to reassure them, they did not breathe a sigh of relief until they saw that Aron was safe and sound. "Why didn't you think about our feelings when you left the hospital without permission? Didn't you know what would happen?"

Listening in to their conversation, Isla clenched her hands that she almost dropped the breakfast bag she was holding. She felt partly responsible for the ordeal that Mike and Joanna had to go through.

When Joanna went to see her yesterday, hoping that she and Aron would get back together, she told her that she would never have anything to do with Aron again. Hours later, Aron fainted because of her. Isla didn't know how to explain it to them.

"Grandma, I'm fine. Don't worry, " Aron consoled them. "I know myself. If I don't get Isla back, I'll regret it for the rest of my life."

Hearing this, his grandparents fell into silence. They knew that he liked Isla, but neither of them expected her to be that important to Aron.

Isla, standing at the door, was moved by what Aron just said. For the first time, she didn't want to run away from this thing between them. She realized that she wanted to be with Aron.

Isla entered the ward and said to Aron, "Aron, here's your breakfast. I don't know what you like, so I just bought a few things."

"Thank you, Isla. I like them all, " Aron said. His eyes flickered and a smile lit his face.

"Grandpa Mike, Grandma Joanna, have you two had breakfast yet? I bought enough breakfast for everyone. Please come and partake of it, " Isla thoughtfully called them to join in.

"Don't worry about us, dear Isla, " Joanna smiled and refused. Then she added, "Aron told me you have looked after him all night. We are grateful for what you did. Thank you."

"You're more than welcome, " Isla replied. Then Isla handed Aron a cup of soy milk and sat by his bed, peeling an egg for him. Joanna was pleased with what she saw.

"Grandma Joanna, the doctor said that Aron has to spend one more night here for observation. I'll still be here tonight to take care of him, so you two can go home." Isla told them.

"No, that's not a good idea." Joanna refused the offer. "You've looked after him last night. If you stay another night, you'll tire out."

"Grandma is right, Isla." Aron agreed with Joanna, and looked at Isla lovingly. "Watching over me all night must have been exhausting. I will be fine here alone tonight. You need to go home, rest and get freshened up."

"I'm all right, " Isla insisted. "I'll take you home early tomorrow morning, and then I'll go straight to work."

"Isla, we will be here tonight to take care of Aron." Joanna and Mike didn't think it was okay for Isla to stay here and take care of Aron. "We know that you have your duties at work. Leave Aron in our care and just have a good rest tonight."

"Stop arguing, grandma, Isla, " Aron interrupted them. It felt good to have loving people around. Then he made the final decision. "Grandpa, grandma, both of you aren't young anymore and staying up to care for me all night will affect your health. As for you, Isla, you've done your part last night. Didn't you say you were going to make a proposal tomorrow? I won't have you messing it up because of me. So you all have a good rest tonight and let me stay here by myself. There is absolutely no need to worry about me. I can be here by myself."

"No, you can't... " With worries written on her face, Isla tried to counter his decision. She wouldn't be able to really rest if Aron was left alone at the hospital.

"I... will... be... all... right!" Aron said firmly again and word for word. "Don't worry, it's just one night."

In the end, at Aron's insistence, the other three had to concede.

Later at noon that day, Leila ran into an acquaintance. "What are you doing here?" she asked aggressively.

Leila was really unhappy to see Paula downstairs at Shining Company. When they both were at Cloud Advertising Company, they hated each other because of their respective positions.

"I want to have a talk with you, " Paula answered with a broad smile. "I promise you, it won't take too much of your time. Most important of all... What I am going to tell you will definitely intrigue you. You are gonna love it, " she said with a sinister smile.

"I don't think we have anything to talk about." Leila gave Paula a mocking sneer. She thought that she and Paula were from different worlds, and they had absolutely nothing in common.

Leila turned to leave, but Paula stopped her, grabbing her arm. "Don't you want to be with Charles?" Paula asked.

"What do you mean?" Leila thought no one knew about her feelings for Charles, least of all Paula.

"Do you think you hide your feelings well?" Paula said with one brow up. "I've always known that you liked Charles. Ohh wait.. the right word is looooove, " she mocked.

"What do you want?" Leila asked, ready to punch Paula. The sooner she got rid of this bitch, the better.

"As I said, I just wanted to have a talk with you. Do you have time now?" Paula sneered. With that, Leila hesitated but reluctantly agreed. Paula laughed at her naivete.

They went into a restaurant where there wasn't a lot of people. As soon as Leila sat down, she coldly asked, "Seriously, what do you want from me?"

"Oh don't be such a killjoy. We haven't seen each other for so long. Shouldn't we chat first and catch up?" Paula said slyly ignoring Leila's irritated look.

"Paula, " Leila said impatiently, "if you don't tell me what you want now, I'll take my leave."

"Look at you, you're as hot-tempered as ever!" Paula exclaimed. She pushed Leila, who was already up, back onto her seat and said, "Then I will be straight with you. Leila, I know you like Charles. How about this, let's join hands, and I'll help you take Charles from Autumn?"

Leila frowned suspiciously at Paula and warily asked, "And why do you want to help me? I know you like Charles, too. So why are you going to help me get him now?"

She wasn't born yesterday and she didn't think that Paula would help her for no reason.

"I?" Paula paused for a second and went on, "Do you think Charles will ever be attracted to me? No, I don't think so. But you, your situation is better. You see him almost every day. You still have a chance to snag him."
