The Babysitter novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7: (Aubrey's POV)- Mario Kart

After that pathetic argument, we kept our mouths shut and just sat there in silence. I, of course, being the smart one, decided to pull out my phone as a distraction and boy was it working. I completely forgot he was sitting right beside me.

Who the hell am I kidding? He's right there, I'm a nervous wreck and I have no clue why, my heart is racing, I genuinely think this is what it feels like when you're going crazy. Am I right with my hypothesis? I sure hope not.

After realizing that I wasn't even looking at my screen, I turned my phone off and placed it on the table in front of us.

"Pretending to go on your phone doesn't help huh?" he spoke with a teasing tone lingering in his voice.

I turned to him with a glare. "Do you have anything better to do?" I questioned.

"I could think of something two people can do." His eyes shone with amusement with the smirk that plays on his lips.

"You disgust me." I shook my head in disappointment. What else was I expecting him to say? Oh, let's go take a walk? Not like he can do that either.

I feel kind of bad for him. He can't leave his own house and it probably sucks being a prisoner in your own house, that too in the summer, when everything's more fun outside.

When the beach is nice and the water is cold, when lemonade stands are up. What a pity he can't go out. I bet his room isn't organized either, that could kill some time.

"Take me up to your room," I spoke demandingly, closing my eyes once I realized how wrong that sounded.

"Taking charge. I'm cool with that." He put his hands up in surrender.

"No, that's not what I meant," I groaned. "I wanna see your room." I shrugged casually.

"Whatever you say Aubs," he shrugged and patted my knee twice before grabbing my hand and pulling me up. Oh, I see he's calling me Aubs now, ok. I don't know how he knows it because no one except for Vi calls me that.

"Where'd you get the nickname?" I questioned as we walked up the stairs.

"Just thought it suits you. Are you ok with it?" He glanced at me as we approached his room.

"Sure?" I replied but it came out like a confusing question, because did it matter?

"I'll just call you Carthy," he shrugged while opening the door for me with a boyish grin.

"Okay Parker, whatever you want," I spoke while looking around his room to see it was pretty clean. The only thing that seemed to be a mess was his desk. Well, now I have something to do, and so does he.

"So, what are your motives for bringing me up to my bedroom?" He flopped onto his bed while raising his eyebrows at me promptly.

"Not what you want them to be. I'm looking for something to do and cleaning your desk sounds like a pretty good idea to me, and you can help," I explained with a shrug.

"Do you have any idea how boring that makes you sound?" he pointed out.

"Then boring I am. Come on, get up," I demanded as I grabbed the books that were scattered on his desk and tossed them onto the bed and some on the floor. "We'll split them into liked and disliked and then you can give away the books you don't like. Okay?" I looked up at him to see him smiling down at me.

"Okay." He nodded before we went through all the books, pile by pile. Doing this took about thirty minutes only, he was making this too easy. Either way, we were done with our job. So we set the books he would give away to the side and placed everything else back on his bookshelf.

"What now?" we dusted our hands simultaneously while he questioned.

"You tell me, this is your house isn't it? What do you usually do?" I asked due to pure boredom.

"Watch movies, eat, cook, go on my phone, play video games occasionally." He shrugged.

"What video games?" I narrowed my eyes down at him, hoping he would say the one game I like and can play.

"I do have Mario kart if that's what you wanna hear," he chuckled while I silently cheered in my head.

"Oh yeah, Mario kart's cool. Wanna play?" I brushed it off, acting cool.

He laughed while opening his door for me. "My lady." He held his hand out, gesturing me to walk first.
