The CEO Gets What He Wants novel Chapter 36

She was in that position for so long that her legs became numb. A while later, she finally heard Cayden's hoarse voice coming from the bathroom once he had gotten his relief.

“You can come in now.”

Avery bit her lip, pretended not to feel embarrassed or awkward, and went into the bathroom again.

Cayden threw her a complicated look.

Avery was unable to hold his dark gaze for long, so she looked away.

At that moment, Cayden appeared like a well-dressed gentleman.

It was as if he had not partaken in the intimate moments between them earlier, and it was all a one-sided affair.

Just as Avery was about to enter the bathroom, Cayden blocked her way.

The masculine scent was still emitting from Cayden, and it made her heart skip a beat.

Avery looked down and said, “Please excuse me.”

Cayden's gorgeous face darkened before he brushed past her and walked out.

Avery took a deep breath and entered the bathroom.

Before shutting the bathroom door, she saw Cayden walking to the back of Zachary. When the boy saw his father coming over, he put his utmost effort into his schoolwork.

Both father and son seemed to suffer from a lack of love.

In the beginning, they treated her home as their own. They ate and stayed there as they pleased. Now, they were treating her ward as their home too. The young one was doing his homework here while the older one satisfied himself in her bathroom...

Avery shook her head and dared not let her thoughts wander any further.

She was on the brink of a breakdown.

After putting her panties away, Avery leaned on the bathroom wall and was so upset that she felt like dying.

It was one embarrassing episode after another.

During the day, he was the high and mighty CEO who was respected by everyone. As for her, she had just joined the company and possessed no outstanding background or backer. In fact, she was not even his direct subordinate.

Their statuses were worlds apart, yet in private, they were interacting with each other in such a manner. No matter which way Avery viewed it, they were lacking in morals and values.

It was apparent with every single move of Cayden that he could not wait to sleep with her.

Avery rubbed her temples and let out a sigh.

At the same time, she could hear the footsteps of the boy coming in her direction.

“Ms. Ery, your phone rang. It's your dad...” Zachary came to the bathroom and said with his tender voice, “I-I answered it by accident. The man says he's your dad.”

Avery had already opened the door to take her phone from Zachary.

With one hand in his pocket, Cayden stood in front of the cabinet as he stared at the empty glass jug. He then opened the fridge to find it empty as well.

“Dad?” Avery called out as she shut the bathroom door.

Zachary pouted and pondered on it before going back to do his work.

Leonardo did not beat around the bush. “Ery, I beg of you! Please let Milana off the hook, okay?”

“You called me because of her?” Her hand that was holding onto the phone trembled. Disappointment engulfed her, and tears were threatening to fall. “I'm not the one who wants to get her into trouble. But, how can someone like me change the law with just a few words?”

Leonardo lost his temper too. “If it isn't because of you, why can't Milana get out? Someone from the Saunders family was arrested together with her. That person comes from a powerful family and wanted to bail Milana out at the same time. But, the police officers refused and said that they won't be allowed to release her unless the victim was willing to drop the charges!”

Avery wanted very much to tell her father that she had not reported the incident to the police. In truth, she had no idea who did it. Until now, she had not been summoned for any questioning by the police yet.

She was not the one who had called the police.

Then again, Avery was thankful to the person who had done so. Good job. Well done.

Faced with her father's apathy, Avery remained silent for quite a while before saying sarcastically, “If I recall correctly, I'm your biological daughter, am I not? Milana drugged me. If I hadn't run away in time, do you know what would have happened to me, Dad? Also, she used such a despicable tactic on me before when we were overseas! After what happened the last time, she dared not do it while we were abroad anymore. Yet, when we returned home, she still tried to pull off the same stunt. She's the one who lacks a proper upbringing, not me! What have I done wrong?”

Leonardo kept quiet.

“I cannot remember when the last time we interacted like real father and daughter was. Our relationship has changed since I went abroad for five years. I have no idea why...”

Avery struggled to continue, her voice raspy. “The most surprising part of it all is the fact that you are more concerned about Milana and not the victim—me.”

There was still no response from Leonardo.

“Shortly after Milana was arrested, both you and Henrietta came and begged me to let Milana off. When I saw my own dad here, I was so ecstatic. However, that happiness was short-lived. I feel that all this while, you have been staying in Ackleton and have never gone overseas to work. In that case, why couldn't you have come to see your daughter, whom you have not met for more than a year? You even hid your phone number from me. Who in the world would believe such an outrageous thing even if I told them?” said Avery as she choked back her tears.

In the ward, Cayden had placed earphones into Zachary's ears.

When he listened to music, he tended to finish his work faster. However, his father had told him in the past that it was not healthy for children to use earphones all the time. Why has Daddy put them on me now?

Cayden frowned and looked toward the bathroom.

Avery lowered her voice and said, “In the past, I always thought Henrietta was the most wicked person because she bound you to her using your marital status and wouldn't allow you to contact me. Now, I finally understand... I have always wanted your marriage to be a blissful one. If Henrietta is sincere to you...”

With that, Avery ended the call.

Her body slid down the wall, and she covered her mouth so that her cries could not be heard.

Standing outside the bathroom, Cayden wanted to open the door and pull her into his arms to console her. However, the thought that their relationship had yet to go to the next level made him retract his hand.

Most likely, she would have been disdainful of his consolation.

With that in mind, Cayden walked back to his son and removed one side of the earphones before saying sternly, “Finish your work fast. Then, we will take Ms. Ery shopping.”

Zachary was thrilled to hear that, and he nodded in agreement.

After more than ten minutes, Avery came out of the bathroom.

The moment she walked out, she saw that the father and son looked like they were about to go out.

Although Avery was relieved, she did not forget her manners. “Are both of you leaving? Let me walk you out.”

Her thoughts were in a mess right now, and she needed to be alone.
