THE UNION novel Chapter 15

Gboyega sits on a dinning chair facing his teenage step daughter Linda, they both hadn't really said anything to each other except for the appropriate greeting, Gboyega had no idea what he wanted to say to her.

"So what's your job?" Linda asked.

"I sell cars, what about you?" Gboyega responded, he quickly realized that he asked a stupid question what could possibly be the job of a sixteen years old.

"I'm a student, I mentioned that earlier." Linda says, she wasn't enjoying her stay. She thought her step father was going to be a wild and fun person.

"Sorry, I'm not really good with people socially." Gboyega says.

"I see that." Linda responds, she stands up from her chair. "I'll be going outside." Linda runs off.

"What do I do?" Gboyega said to himself, he thought of just leaving her to be by herself but knew it was stupid, he had promised to Gbemi that whenever Linda was coming that he was going to be a good father to her. He runs off to Papa office to see if he could find anything that could help him.

"I'm messing up." Gboyega says to himself, he sees a children book and without hesitation grabs it at first he wondered what a children book was doing in Papa's office but what was written in the book was good, it had different methods on helping parents to interact with their supernatural children, Gboyega drags a chair and sits, he quickly goes through the chapters.

"I got this." Gboyega breathes out as he leaves the house, he moves toward Linda who's sitting on the grass all by herself, he sits beside her.

"I'm sorry for what happened." Ayo says, he had memorized everything written in the book and one of the rules was to apologize.

"Yeah." Linda responds quietly.

"Hey, tell me more about yourself, what are your powers?" Gboyega says as he touches her shoulder.

"I have light powers just like my mom but I don't use it, my aunt told me that my mom never used her powers too." Tolu says, she never got to know much about Gbemi, Gboyega at first wanted to correct her by telling her the truth but he also didn't want to go on having a conversation with Linda.

"Tell me more."Gboyega says.

"Well, the first time I used................." Linda goes on but Gboyega doesn't listen, his thoughts went to Gbemi.

In a flashback, Gboyega tells Gbemi about his past as she uses her powers to heal his burnt hand.

"So I ran away cause I was scared obviously, I spent months from house to house but one day I helped a guy called Richard and he took me to this man's house for people............. Like me, I don't know how to explain, it's still kind of weird." Gboyega says swiftly.

"I'm so sorry to hear that Gboyega." Gbemi softly says, she let's go of his hand after healing the wounds.

"They treated me like a monster, like I was some kind of disease." Gboyega voice shakens as drops of tears roll down from his eyes, Gbemi gently used her hand to wipe his tears away.

"You're not a bad person, you're just misunderstood." She says and grabs his hand.

"Can you hear me?!" Linda yells as she looks at Gboyega who hasn't been paying attention to anything she had been saying, he quickly faces her.

"I'm sorry, I was in a dark place." Gboyega says hoping not to ruin the moment.

"Wow." Linda says disappointed and walks out.
