Worship The Ground You Walk On novel Chapter 39

In the afternoon, the sun cast its glorious rays over the earth, and it was steaming.

Claudia just bathed Conrad and put on a fresh diaper for him. Feeling refreshed, he was crawling on the bed excitedly.

It took Claudia some efforts to hold Conrad and put on a Superman T-shirt and shorts for him. After that, she went downstairs with the baby.

Hanna happened to arrive at this moment. Conrad raised his little hands at the sight of her, wanting her to hold him.

Conrad was close to Hanna. Although he was very little, he recognized her.

“Wow, little Conny looks like a little Superman. You look so cute!” Hanna came over to hold Conrad and kissed him on the cheek affectionately.

Then she sat down and asked, “I have a get-together this afternoon. Do you want to go with me, Claudia?”

A get-together?

Claudia’s mind went blank. Apparently, she didn’t know what Hanna meant.

“It’s just a gathering of the women in our circle, including some young married women and socialites. We get together, chat and have some desserts. That’s all,” explained Hanna.

Now Claudia caught on. There had used to be many parties of this kind before, but Amber attended them on behalf of The Evans family each time.

“Let’s go together! No one is more qualified for this kind of occasion than you, Claudia!” Enthusiastic, Hanna held Claudia’s hands in a natural manner.

However, Claudia didn’t really want to go because she didn’t like that kind of occasions at all.

After all, she was a mute and unable to speak. She would only be laughed at there.

Aware of Claudia’s struggles, Hanna gave a faint smile and added, “Don’t worry. No one dares say anything bad about you with me around! Besides, you’re Mrs. Crawford, the envy of all those women!”

Envy...

Now Claudia felt even more embarrassed hearing that word.

But Hanna kept on inviting her so passionately that Claudia found it hard to refuse. Claudia saw Conrad playing with toy cars on the sofa and replied in sign language, “I have to take care of Conny. I’m so sorry I can’t go with you. You should go without me, Miss Lewis...”

Before she could finish her words in sign language, a voice interrupted her.

“Since Hanna invites you, just go!”

Startled, Claudia looked up and happened to see Winifred walking in from the hallway.

Winifred came to visit her grandson, and she happened to have heard what Hanna said.

Winifred changed her shoes and greeted Conrad once she came in, “My baby grandson! Come here. Let me have a good look at you...”

Winifred adored Conrad, and she spoiled him.

She took Conrad into her arms and said to Claudia, “At least you’re the younger Mrs. Crawford, so you have to attend such an occasion. I can take care of Conny, while you may go with Hanna!”

Hanna gave a smile and echoed, “Exactly! Don’t worry, Claudia. I’ll be by your side, and I won’t allow anyone to bully you!”

Claudia got even more embarrassed. However, since Winifred asked her to go, how could she refuse?

Claudia forced herself to go upstairs, get changed and leave with Hanna.

The meeting place was at the health spa of the villa resort in the suburbs.

The villa resort was the property of The Dunphy family. Since Sean was the heir of the Dunphy Group, as well as the friend of Ben’s, the manager of the spa went down to greet Claudia upon hearing that she arrived.

The manager also greeted Hanna, “You also came, Miss Lewis. My little spa is honored by your presence!”

In this kind of setting, the manager had to make flattering remarks to show respect for the Crawford Group.

However, those socialites, who had already arrived, were green with envy at the sight of this scene. They stared at the two of them with jealousy. One could tell at a glance that those ladies couldn’t feel bitterer.

The women gathered in knots in the box. Dressed in luxurious and glamorous clothes, they were sipping fine wine and having a chat.

Claudia’s appearance, nonetheless, surprised everyone.

Meanwhile, she spotted Amber among the women.

The sisters met again. One was natural, beautiful, and elegant, the other glamorous, charming and enchanting.

It never occurred to Amber that she would see Claudia here. She gave a frown immediately, but the next second, a smile curved her lips, “What brought you here, my little sister?”

Having said that, Amber looked at Hanna and sneered, “The ex-girlfriend is hanging out with the wife. Is this getting popular now?”

The identities of the two women were instantly clear as Amber said that.

The dozen woman sitting around exchanged glances with each other, awkwardness hanging heavily in the air above the women.

Claudia dropped her eyes, trying to ignore Amber’s taunt, but Hanna was no shrinking violet.

She looked into Amber’s eyes, a sly glint in her eyes, “What about you?”

Hanna faked a sigh, her eyes gleaming, and continued, “It’s said that you have a secret crush on some man, and keep throwing yourself at him, but that gentleman just gives you the cold shoulder, right?”

Hanna was playing nice by not mentioning Ben’s name.

But even if she didn’t mention his name, how wouldn’t those women know who Hanna was referring to since everyone was in the same circle?

Hanna cut Amber to the quick with just a few words. Amber failed to hold back her anger, got up, flung out her arm and spilt the wine towards Hanna and Claudia.

Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Hanna foresaw it and jumped back, but Claudia was not so fortunate. The whole glass of wine was spilt all over her chest.

The women around them rose to their feet, exclaiming.

Seeing that, Amber wanted to leave immediately, but was grabbed by Hanna, “Can’t you see your wine is all over Claudia? And now you want to leave? Amber, shouldn’t you apologize to her first?”

“Apologize to whom?” Amber cried in a domineering and rude manner.

She squinted at Claudia, who happened to be wearing a white dress today. The red wine looked like blood against it, making Claudia even more messy.

Hanna raised her eyebrows, “What’s that attitude? Of course to Claudia!”

“Is that necessary?” Sneering, Amber walked up to Claudia and grabbed her tiny wrist abruptly, her sharp nails cutting into Claudia’s skin, making her grimace.

“Do I need to apologize to you, my little sister?” Amber raised her voice deliberately. Under that amiable look, her voice was filled with a sense of menace.

Amber’s hard grip on Claudia’s wrist made her gasp out of pain. Finally, Claudia met Amber’s gaze, anger welling up inside her.

The next moment, Claudia mustered all her strength and threw Amber’s hand off.

It was true that Claudia was unable to speak, but that didn’t mean she was a pushover. She wouldn’t let anyone step on her!

Amber didn’t expect that Claudia would resist, and she got angrier, “You...”

But soon, she was interrupted by Hanna, “When you do something wrong, you make an apology for it. Haven’t The Evans family raised you better?”

Now that Amber was turned on by both Claudia and Hanna, she was in an awkward position for the moment.

She was put on the spot.

As a proud woman, Amber would never apologize submissively.

At this moment, some women around started to mediate between the two parties, trying to smooth things over.

Hanna also settled down a lot now, so she stopped fighting and went to the toilet with Claudia to help her deal with the wine stains.

There happened to be two young women in the toilet, and Hanna heard everything they said inadvertently.

“Didn’t Amber play her cards well? Do you remember last time she asked us to do her a favor? We let Claudia know Hanna had STD, and both of them fell into our trap as expected! We had a double kill!”

“Exactly! Amber is a real badass!”
