Worship The Ground You Walk On novel Chapter 53

In Jorge's Auction House.

The city's biggest financial trading center had been preparing for the auction of the Evans’ old house for over half a month. Days ago, they decided to bring the auction forward according to Theodore's advice. He was the chairman of the Evans Group.

Most of the presenters today were here for that house. It was a bit far from downtown, but its location was quite convenient because of the well-developed transportation. Behind the house lied the Mount Blessing. Rumors had it that the one lived near it would be blessed. Therefore, the buyer would earn a fortune as long as he could purchase the house and restore it.

They were all businessmen. Personal benefits always came first for them.

The presenters were discussing the bid in private before the auction started. They wondered who would be the lucky dog to own this precious property.

Hanna knew Mr. Hearst, the chairman of the Auction House. She had asked him to put off the auction several times. She was surprised when she received the news that she might also have to have the date changed.

Mr. Hearst explained, “Hanna, I wanted to help you, and I've made that promise to you before, but you have nothing to do with the house, and Mr. Raba has given us the deadline. There's nothing more I can do.”

Hanna looked so upset. She felt like she had been fooled, but she couldn't take her anger out on Mr. Hearst in his face.

The auction would soon begin. She had run out of options, so she said to him, “Mr. Hearst, I'm begging you... can you cancel the auction today?”

“Cancel? Is that possible?” He lived his life on it. He would never cancel an auction for no reason, because that would cause him a huge loss.

Moreover, business is more about profits; it was about honesty, too. The auction is going to start within minutes, calling it off now would leave a disdain on the reputation of the auction hall.

Hanna was so anxious. She checked the time and went to the corridor with her cellphone.

She sent two messages, but Claudia wouldn't reply. Just by then, somebody was calling her name and remind her that the action would begin momentarily.

The auction, which took the House half a month to prepare, ended within twenty minutes.

It was well-known that the highest bidder would win the item.

To everyone's surprise, the old house of the Evans was eventually obtained by someone that nobody had foreseen.

At the other end of the city, Claudia was learning how to make cookies from the nanny. Conrad was playing beside her. He spilled the batter and dipped some to draw on his little face, chuckling.

Claudia held him and wiped the batter off his face. She shook her head and smiled at him.

Conrad put his arms around her neck and smiled back.

It had taken Claudia and the nanny the whole morning to bake all those cookies. Conrad reached out his hand to grab the cookies on the plate, but he took back his hand immediately as he touched them. Those were still hot.

Fortunately, he didn't get burnt. His charming and silly look made the adults laugh.

That was the good thing about having children. They made the simplest thing funnier.

When the cookies were done, the housekeepers had to prepare for lunch. Claudia took Conrad upstairs. He had batter all over his clothes and need a nice bath.

About ten minutes after she went upstairs, the door downstairs opened.

Ben walked in, wearing a cold face, yet he still looked handsome.

The housekeeper and the nanny could feel his horrifying aura, so they decided not to come out and greeted him. Ben then walked upstairs. Every step he took, his face turned grimmer.

A few moments later, the bedroom door was pushed open. It was Ben. He skimmed over the room and found there was no one in it.

Just as he was about to leave, he heard somebody humming in the bathroom.

He opened the door, only to see Claudia taking Conrad out of the bathtub. She then wiped him with a big bath towel.

Conrad was so naughty. As Claudia was distracted by Ben, Conrad sneaked away from her. He crawled on the slippery floor swiftly.

Claudia bent over and got him back. She put him in her arms and threw a tiny robe on him. After she helped him to put on a clean diaper, she put some cream on his tender cheeks.

After it was all done, she came out of the bathroom.

Conrad's eyes were attracted by Ben. He reached out his hands to touch Ben, mouth babbling.

Conrad was still too young to speak.

He could barely walk; sometimes he could stand on his feet, but as he moved, he would stagger.

He was still a baby.

Ben looked gloomy. Claudia could feel his gaze fixed on her. He even hadn't taken a look at his son yet.

Claudia's white T-shirt was wet because she had just bathed Conrad. The soaking wet T-shirt stuck to her body and accentuated her charming curves. She looked smoking hot at that moment.

There was nothing but coldness in Ben's eyes. He checked her from head to toe. However, instead of desire, his eyes were taken over by anger.

Claudia had seen his sullen look, but she didn't know it was about her.

She walked past him with Conrad in her arms. It wasn't easy for her to put Conrad in bed, because he was wiggling in her arms. She touched his forehead and gave him a teddy bear.

Conrad didn’t seem interested in the teddy bear. Claudia could only bring him back to the nursing room where there were more toys.

When she came back, Ben was still in the room. His face looked grim and was giving out a terrifying aura.

Claudia passed by him. Then she found the notification light of the phone was constantly flickering. She realized she had been putting it there for charging for too long.

When she unlocked it, she saw a few messages coming in.

The sender was the same person, Hanna.

“Claudia, the action of your old house has been brought forward. I'm sorry, I know I've promised you to keep it. Did you mention to Ben that you need the money?”

“Reply ASAP. The auction will begin soon. What are you going to do with the money?”

Claudia couldn't believe how much these messages had been belated.

She checked the time of the message. It was sent around 13:00, and it was 16:00 now!

She suddenly felt very anxious and looked at Ben with grieved eyes. She took out her phone and editing the text as quickly as she could, but she was too nervous to type as usual. She made quite a few typos.

Just by then, a force plucked the phone away from her hand easily like a piece of paper. It was Ben. He then threw the phone on the sofa.

Her breath had been taken away by his glaring. He narrowed and clear eyes and took a few steps forward. Claudia didn't know what to do. She knew something was wrong, so she stepped back slowly.

Soon she was forced into the corner and had no way to escape.

The man’s body pressed towards her like an overwhelming mountain. She was caught between his chest and the wall. The position looked intimate, but Claudia felt nothing but coldness and threat.

“You want to discuss the old house of your family with me, right?” Ben asked as his head got closer. His low and hoarse voice sounded as charming as usual.
