Worship The Ground You Walk On novel Chapter 88

When Ben was back in the city, he didn’t go to manage the company, nor did he visit his son back home. His first destination was the building of the Department of Public Security.

After Hanna was arrested, the lawyers from the Crawford Group went to stay with her within 48 hours. And the police didn’t get anything from her in the interrogation. So, they had to release her in 48 hours.

Once Ben arrived, the head of the department came to welcome him and explain the circumstance to him.

Obviously, Hanna was framed.

However, if they couldn’t catch Robert, Hanna would be his scapegoat. Even though she would be free this time, the police would collect more evidence and prosecute her later.

Besides, those business partners and stakeholders who got framed by Robert wouldn’t let her go so easily.

She was in dire straits.

When Ben was well informed, he asked Nate to handle everything for him and went to the interrogation room.

The room was dark. In the room, there were two chairs and a desk with a small mirror, which was opposite to the criminal suspect. It felt so depressing to just stay in here.

Since Hanna had arrived here, she had been keeping drinking coffee and interrogated by the police officer without any rest or sleep. She was not allowed to be anywhere else except the bathroom.

You could tell by her look that she was really worn out.

When the door was opened and Ben stepped inside, Hanna was thrilled.

She was surprised to see him here at the beginning, and then she smiled brightly with tears in her eyes. That was incredible.

She knew that this was still in France a few hours ago, and then flew thousands of miles to see her just because of her call.

He wouldn’t do it without his deep feeling for her.

Hanna was not an idiot. She knew he was always nice to her.

“Ben, you are here! I’m sorry! I shouldn’t interrupt your schedule…”

Soon, her joy was replaced by a sense of guilt and shame. She lowered her head and started to blame herself, “It’s my fault…”

“I’m sorry…” she kept mumbling repeatedly.

Ben only felt bitter after hearing her words.

He frowned and put a chair next to her. Then, he sat down and sigh, with his soft eyes on her, “Don’t need to apologize to me. You do nothing wrong after all.”

“But you haven’t done anything wrong, too! I shouldn’t involve you in this mess!” she lowered her head in shame, like a scolded child.

He leaned forward and raised her chin with his hand, “Just like I said, you are innocent! Even if you don’t tell me about this, I will still be here to help you once I know it.”

“Ben…” Hanna gazed at him.

It was a blessing for a woman to have a loyal and responsible husband like Ben.

“Don’t worry, just take a sleep on the table. Do you want something to eat? I can ask for a delivery.” he said.

She shook her head, “I don’t want to eat anything with so many troubles in the company.”

She said it just to laugh at herself, but Ben took it seriously.

He held her head tightly and said, “Don’t worry, I got your back. I will find Robert one way or the other.”

But she just sighed and lowered her head, “Even if we can find him, we can’t bring him back without the support of the extradition treaty.”

“I can handle this.”

Hanna looked at the deep eyes of Ben like she could see hope in them, and then nodded her head.

He had a kind of magic to make people feel calm and confident when facing troubles.

Meanwhile, in Paris, Claudia awoke and found it was at dusk.

The sunset glow tinted the sky red and shone through the windows in her room. In the room filled with the red glow, there was only a thin silhouette sitting at the window.

Tears were slowly coming out of her eyes, and later, they were just streaming down.

She was just sitting still at the window until midnight.

If she didn’t make some coughs occasionally, she would be as motionless as a statue. Mike had checked the ward several times, and every time he walked to her sickroom he would see her sitting there. Eventually, he got into the sickroom out of curiosity.

“Are you missing him?”

A voice came from her back.

Claudia turned her head and saw a tall man with blonde hair and blue eyes.

She smiled slightly and shook her head.

She was thinking about Conrad. Having left the country for several days, she didn’t know whether he was all right.

“You can’t lie to me. I’m a doctor. I can not only check a physical wound in your body, but also the mental pain in your heart. You really care about him, I can tell.”

Mike walked to her and handed her a cup of water.

She took the glass but didn’t drink the water. She just wanted to hold it and felt the warmth in her head.

“You are not born to be a mute, right, Mrs. Crawford? I read your medical records and found you have been harmed by poison many times. With time going by, your body absorbed the poison, which caused serious damage to your health.”

Blair had tried to cover the fact, that she killed her husband, by murdering Claudia. She believed that it was not enough to ruin her throat and made the attempt many times.

Only a dead man could keep the secret best.

But what made Blair wonder was that this child was so lucky that she could always survive from her deadly plots.

In an elevator accident, she didn’t die. Trapped in a burning house, she stayed intact. Assaulted by the mobs, she managed to escape…

Blair had tired of making an ‘accident’ to her over and over again and started to use the poison that could slowly kill her.

But once again, Claudia survived.

It was not until she was married to Ben a year ago due to the testament of her grandma that she got rid of the control of Blair.

So, she knew clearly about her health condition.

“I have never seen such a situation. What has happened to you, Mrs. Claudia?”

Mike was confused. She was still young, but her body was heavily damaged by the poison. What was the truth behind it?

Claudia looked at him and smiled slightly. She shook her head and gestured, “I’m fine, really.”

“You can’t say you are fine just because you are still alive, Mrs. Crawford. If you want to live well, a healthy body is essential to you!”

Mike didn’t know how to explain it to her. Yes, she only had a slight multiple organ failure now, but what would happen in the future?

He thought for a while and said, “Well, Mrs. Crawford, you can come here and ask me to nurse your health at any time you want. I’ll try my best to help you.”

Claudia smiled again. She didn’t think she deserved the devotion of such a young and excellent doctor.

Besides, her health was not the thing she cared about most.

She just smiled and gestured, “Thank you, Mike. But I’ll be home tomorrow.”
