My Most Precious Human novel Chapter 115

I changed into jeans and my old sweatshirt. When I finally felt comfortable, I sat on the bed and started staring at my new phone. I was hoping to get a call from Kanan or Martha before tomorrow. I couldn't believe that it had only been a day and I already missed them. I would probably sit like that and wait if it weren't for Beta Ari knocking on my door. I let him in, and once he entered my room, I invited him to sit down.

"I assume that you and Alpha had a fight?" he asked as soon as I closed the door behind him.

I smiled sourly at him. "How did you guess?"

"I saw him eat his lunch alone, murdering the food on the plate, and then he organized an extra training for his elite warrior squad," he smirked and narrowed his eyes at me.

"So why are you here instead of training?" I tried to ignore his interrogative gaze.

"I told Alpha that I would go and check on you. He agreed." Ari grinned cunningly.

"So I am your way of skipping training?" I chuckled.

"He was seriously concerned about you."

"I bet he was." I sighed and rolled my eyes.

Ari leaned forward in the chair and gazed at me, caringly. "Look… I know that Alpha Draven can be rough around the edges, but he is the Alpha of the biggest pack on this side of the world and the one worthy of claiming the royal title. Cut him some slack, and he might surprise you."

"Like seriously? You are worried that the big wolf will get hurt?" I shot him a meaningful gaze. "I'm sorry, Beta Ari, but I'm not going to ‘cut some slack’ to someone who disrespected me."

Ari sighed heavily. "Ms. Lilith-"

"Lilith," I insisted.

"Fine… Lilith. It's been a while since our Alpha took a serious interest in a woman. He spent many years leading his pack to battles. You cannot blame him for not being a romantic type," he smiled wryly.

"I don't expect him to shower me with flowers. I only wanted him to give me time. I know that you care about your Alpha's feelings, but it's been less than one day since I said goodbye to the man I love… and I don't feel the mate-bond that could change my heart in a flash." I prayed that he could at least understand me.

He looked at me sadly and nodded. I smiled faintly, slightly relieved. We sank into a heavy silence… interrupted by my stomach growl. I flushed and embarrassingly rubbed my abdomen as if trying to silence the rumbling sound. Ari chuckled.

"I will tell someone from the kitchen to bring some dinner to your room," he said, getting up from the chair.

"Thank you, Ari," I smiled shyly at him.

He nodded while smirking, then he opened the door and stopped on the threshold. "I'd better tell the kitchen to serve all meals to your room for a while. Would that make you more comfortable?"

"Yes. I think it would be better…" I smiled hesitantly and asked, "I really pissed Draven off, ain't I?"

"You sure did," he snorted, "but you can only avoid him until tomorrow."

"What's tomorrow?" I swallowed nervously.
