Nephilim and the Nun novel Chapter 31

Quinn:

Suddenly, my eyes snapped open in the early hours of the morning. My sensitive ears had picked up the heartbeats of humans, and their conversation even while I was asleep.

They were heading towards the cabin. From what I'd heard them say, they were searching for Rhea. I remained in bed, listening to their footsteps, and heartbeat. The closer they got to the cabin, the louder their footsteps thudded in my ears.

When I stopped hearing their footsteps, I knew they were at the front door. They further confirmed my assumption when a knock sounded on the door.

That was all it took to get me into action. With my arms still around Rhea's sleeping form, I blurred to the closest, taking her with me. Gently and silently, I laid her on the floor. She unconsciously adjusted her position, falling back into sleep. I needed her to remain that way till the men would be gone. So, I laid my palm on her head, inducing her into a deep sleep.

Thereafter, I blurred into the living room at the same time another knock sounded on the door. One of the men urged the other to break down the door if it wasn't opened within two minutes. I stayed behind the door and waited till the moment he was about to kick it open before opening the door.

My eyes landed on the fellow at the door, whose eyes landed on my body first before moving to my eyes.

In my rush to get to them, I'd forgotten to wear pants. Thus, I stood before them, covered in nothing but boxers. But I wasn't to be blamed. They showed up at my doorstep so early in the morning, rousing me from my peaceful sleep.

"How may I help you?" I grunted in annoyance, clearly showing my irritation in my voice.

"We're searching for a missing girl. She's a blonde with pale skin." He pulled a picture from his pants pocket and handed it to me.

It was a picture of Rhea.

"Have you seen her around?"

"No". I returned the picture to him.

"Do you live here alone?" The second man asked, his eyes searching around the cabin before returning to me.

There were three of them.

"I do" I answered, staring pointedly at him. "Is that all?" I inquired

The man standing beside the door looked to the man behind him and the one beside him. From the looks they exchanged, I knew what was coming.

"I just…" he pretended to speak but in the next instant, he pulled out a gun from behind him and aimed it at me. "Step in" he nodded towards the house.

In response, I smirked. This only infuriated him.

He was about to pull the trigger when I froze them. While they stood rooted to the spot, I collected all the guns from them and searched them for any important information but I found nothing other than the picture of Rhea they'd shown to me. Taking the picture, I shot them each on their heads before unfreezing them. Immediately, their lifeless bodies fell to the ground.

"Qui...Ahhh" Rhea screamed as soon as she emerged from the house and sighted the lifeless bodies.

She ran back, hiding behind me.

"W-what happened?" Her voice quivered in fear.

Turning towards her, I stared into her eyes.

"We're leaving".
