Chapter 4 

Pearl instigated a huge change in the company. The first to go included senior executives, directors, and those who attempted to undermine Pearl’s authority with Ralph and Errol.

Pearl showed Ralph the list of personnel changes first. She wanted Ralph to know. she was dismissing those who plotted against her, and he couldn’t do anything about it. “Uncle Ralph, the company isn’t what it once was. We can’t afford to keep idlers. I’ve exhausted my savings to keep it running. Otherwise, we may have to sell properties and land. I heard you bought a piece of land in the northern suburbs to build a golf course…”

Ralph changed his attitude when his interests were threatened. He agreed.

Pearl grinned. Ralph and Errol were too easy to deal with.

However, it was a different story on Ralph’s side. His office was crowded with angry employees in the morning. One of them shouted, “I don’t give a d**n. I’ve worked hard for so long. You’re the one who kicked up a fuss against your niece. Why am I

fired for it?”

Others joined in the clamor, demanding explanations. Their faces were twisted in

fury, their composure gone.

Ralph’s head pounded. “Relax, guys. Chill.”

Errol played with his newly acquired rosary. He didn’t care because his position as

vice–chairman was secured.

Ralph did his best to placate the senior employees, but he was unmoved. After all,

his position as chairman was unaffected and his interests weren’t threatened.

Pearl couldn’t be bothered dealing with the uproar. Her goal was achieved. She left the company and went home. It was time to clean up her home. Pearl heard that it had been occupied by a bunch of pests.
